Chapter 9
Never judge a book by it's cover ✨

I groan, reaching over and slamming my alarm shut. I groan again as I realise that today is the day. The day I go into the school for the first time.
I get up and drag myself to the bathroom, splashing cold water all over my face and brush my teeth, trying not to waste my time.
I then head on over to where I keep my clothes for the time being; and take out some skinny jeans-the left knee cap area ripped-, a "Vogue 13" short-sleeve top with a black jacket. I wrap a purple and blue flannel around my waist, and wear my probably only actual trainers I own. Finally, I top of the look with a beanie that says "Tomboy squad"
Just because I'm a girl but don't act like one, doesn't limit my fashion sense people. The amount of times someone told me they assumed I had bad fashion sense... ahhhh. If only I was allowed to punch you in the God damn face.
I grab the new gym bag, yes my gym bag, and put a few notebooks that Alyssa was forced to give to me from Uncle Leo. They'll do, besides I'm just writing notes aren't I.
Yup I need to get me some actual notebooks and a few pens and what not. Oh well. For now I'm just using a black pen that Alyssa also allowed me to borrow.
Maybe I really should have got myself some stationary...
Now, I'm using a gym bag because one, they are really easy to carry, like seriously you don't understand. Two, they are really spacious and can fit a lot of things, including a few water bottles. And three, I won't have to have a seperate gym bag when I have PE.
I open my door and walk out, walking straight into Cody's room to wake him up. He doesn't have a manual alarm man, he has me. I grin widely as I grab my water bottle and splash it over his face.
"ALEX!" He groans and rubs his eyes sleepily. "What is your problem? You said you would never do the water trick,"
"As long as we stay in secondary, I know." I retort my promise. "We ain't in Secondary no more, we're going to high school."
"Hey! That's not fair, you finding friggin loop holes Alex!" He says and I chuckle as I walk out his door. "Hurry up. You got 20 minutes tops." I holler and then head him recite a colourful string of curse words.
For someone that swears a lot, he curses a lot more than I do... And he's younger than me. I don't see the logic.
I shake my head and make my way downstairs, to see Cara running around, playing with her doll. Or it might just be ranting to it.
She notices someone watching and says, "Hi! My name is Cara! Daddy told me I had cousins to play with!" She says happily and I laugh.
I jog down the stairs and then bend down to her level as I reach the end of the staircase.
"What your name!?" She asks me quizzically, her adorable dimples showing as she flashes a smile at me.
"Alex! Your Cara, right?" I ask her and she nods and then her mouth hangs in astonishment, her eyes widening. "How'd you know my name?" She asks me and I laugh.
"I'm sidekick!" I say, tapping her nose as she giggles.
"Cara sweetheart, time to go." I hear an unfamiliar yet feminine voice call out.
Oh my God, is that... Holy that's her mom... My friggin aunt. I quickly stand up and dust my jeans as she comes into view. I haven't seen her since I got here, because she and Cara were at her mothers house for the weekend.
She's wearing bright red stilettos with a crop top and some 3/4 boyfriend jeans. She has blonde hair, ah so that's where Alyssa gets blonde hair from, and it's up in a high ponytail.
Damn. I sense drama....
I gawk at here because she looks like the mother version of those sluts seen in stereotypical, American school films. Oh my God.
"Oh... so your the girl Leo was talking about." She says, trying to hide the disgust in her voice. I feel like slapping her face off into mars because it's caked with so much makeup.
"Yeah. I'm Alexis." I say, formally greeting her and she looks at me, studying what I'm wearing.
"What are you wearing!?" She shrieks and I also see the long fake nails she's wearing. How can people wear those things? They feel so weird!!!
"Erm... I'm wearing clothes..." I say awkwardly, tugging at my flannel arm and looking down, by understanding what is wrong with my current attire...
"It looks so... boyish!" She says again I roll my eyes as my face is currently not in her view, praying she didn't see it.
Drama queens.
Umm not really one to judge from looks because I get that a lot myself, but her semi-neon and slutty clothing screams at my face "HOE". There's not much else to it.
"... Thanks?" I try as my eyebrows furrow. Her hands ball into fists, showing me her anger and I clearly see that I should not have said that.
"And it gets WORSE!" She shrieks even louder and in a higher pitch, making me think why the windows haven't shattered as yet.
Wait, thinking of it, they're probably rich enough to afford shatterproof glass...
"Why, oh why, are you taking an ugly ass gym bag!?" She asks me and I'm about to dish out my points, as Uncle Leo walks in.
"What's going on this time, Melissa?" He says, looking at his wife until he notices me in the room.
"Oh dear." He whispers as he takes of his office glasses and massages his nose.
"Honey, don't you see what she's wearing? She might as well pass for a boy." She comments and I smugly smile.
"What else can she do? Play soccer?" She asks as she throws her hands up in the air. Me and uncle burst out laughing at her statement and she looks at us oddly.
"As a matter of fact, I do. And I quite enjoy playing it might I add." I smirk and Uncle continues laughing.
"She's amazing at the sport too, might I add" he says as he walks over and side hugs me. "Like the beanie" he whispers in my ears and I smile wider. "I know. I do too" I say aloud and we both chuckle.
"Anyways, I'm gonna be late for school so..." I say, slipping out of the hug and Uncle Leo feigns hurt. "An excuse to slip outta my hug, I see." He says and I laugh.
This is the time, however, Cody and Alyssa decide to make their appearance.
Much to my dismay, Alyssa also realised what I'm wearing and shrieks even louder than her mother. Well, we now we know who that comes from now.
"WHAT ARE YOU WEARING? I DO NOT KNOW YOU NOR AM I RELATED TO SUCH A PERSON!" She screams and the more sensible lot of us, Aka, myself, Cara, Cody and Uncle Leo block our ears from her high pitched screaming.
"Awwwww. Now that is gonna be stuck in my head." I moan and Cody nods his head in agreement, making a cringed face at Alyssa towards me.
"Now thats enough children, you gotta all get to school and don't you dare say that young lady!" Uncle Leo scolds all of us, thereafter scolding Alyssa further.
"Sorry father." She says, looking at her stilettos-yuck how do people walk in those things- and mumbles.
"Good. Now Melissa, take Cara to school while I take the rest-"
"Nope. I'm not riding with those losers." Alyssa ends ups cutting off her father. Her father rolls her eyes and prepares to protest whilst I say, "Nah, if it's me she doesn't want to be seen with, I'll just walk it. It's not that far anyways." I shrug and she nods.
"I don't mind the boy, but I'm not gonna be known related to her." She says. "Well, may God give you luck because people are gonna instantly know me and Cody are related so if they ask, say his dad is your dads friend or something and your giving him a lift every morning." I end and start walking to the door.
"By the way, I'm going to school like this whether you like it or not." I holler and close he door behind me.
Damn, so that's where Alyssa gets her bitchiness from...
