Weapons and Words

(Storm's Pov.)

I sigh. We were starting my first training session, and all I have learned is that Evony likes to grumble and complain about everything. My eyes remained trained on the floor as Evony walked up to stand before me.

"If I am going to teach you to fight, we need to select a weapon for you to use. Follow me," Evony demanded. He grabbed my hand and dragged me over to the side of the room that was covered in weapons. Next to the wall of weapons was a wooden wardrobe-like closet. I wonder what is inside. Maybe it was a magic wand? Or a spell book? I would have no idea.

"Look at the weapons on the wall. We will be testing each to see which suits you best." Evony stated. He then pointed to a long sword that had bandages wrapped around the handle. "This is a katana. It is the first weapon we will try out. Follow me," he commanded. I followed him up the stone stairs and out the door. My mind wandered to Drago and Dascar. I wondered how they were doing. We walked out of his home, which was on the outskirts of the village. We walked a little ways away from the village to a grassy feild on the outskirts of a nearby forest. The area was hidden from the village's view. Evony retrieved the weapons from his home and brought them back and stood in front of me. He held a katana that was like the previous, except it was slightly larger.

"Grab your katana and try to use it by imagining an enemy and pretend to attack them," he instructed, handing me my katana. I nodded, lifting it up. I turned around and swung it at an invisible enemy, but its weight off-balanced me and I fell to the ground. I stand up and try to jab at the enemy, but end up almost cutting myself on accident from the blade's length.

"Thats enough, stop before you hurt yourself!" Evony exclaimed, grabbing the blade from me. He threw a new weapon in front of me. It was a large, metal ball covered in spikes with a wooden handle. "That's a mace. You swing it at your enemies to bash their scull in," he informed me. I looked at him in horror from the gruesome image he put in my head. None the less, I latched my hands onto the handle and tried to lift the mace, but its heavy weight kept it anchored to the ground.

"This weapon needs to go on a diet! It's so fat I can't even pick it up!" I shouted in frustration, still trying to somehow pick up the weapon that was about a quarter of my size.

"Or maybe your muscles are so skinny you can't pick it up. You look like a toothpick trying to pick up a bowling ball," Evony snapped. He exasperatedly lifted the mace up and tossed it to the side. "Next up we will have you try a kusarigama chain. He held up a wooden handle with a chain attached to the top. My eyes followed the chain to see a large blade attached to the end. Evony paused. "On second thought, let's not give you a weapon that could cut your own head off if you swung it around too hard," he said, plucking the handle from my hands.

We continued to try different weapons. Could I use sais? No, I nearly poked my eye out. A battle axe? I couldn't lift it up. A spear? It was so long, I almost turned Evony into a human shish-kabob. Maybe I could use a bow and arrow? No, Evony didn't trust me to fire an arrow and not hit someone. I sigh. We were running low on options.

"You have the fighting skills of a dead rabbit," Evony commented.

"You have the personality of a rock," I retorted in annoyance. "Being around you isn't sunshine and rainbows!"

Evony sigh. "We're running out of options... I don't think the next weapons will suit you at all for many reasons. However, it seems we don't have many other choices," Evony said. I nodded. "Follow me," he said, walking back towards his house.

I followed him down the cobblestone stairs into the all-too-familiar basement. Evony walked over to the cabinet next to the weapon wall. My pulse sped up and my mind whirled with ideas of what could be inside. My excitement grew as Evony wrapped his fingers around one of the silver handles of the cabinet. The world seemed to move in slow motion as he opened the cabinet doors. The inside of the cabinet and its contents were covered in dust and cobwebs. Evony breathed a blast of air into the dusty cabinets, sending a grey cloud of dust and cobwebs to erupt from the wooden cabinet. I coughed a couple times, fanning away the dust from my face. As the dust cleared I could see what was inside of the cabinet.

A chain that looked around three to four meters long lay coiled in the front of the cabinet. A kunai blade was attached to the top. "That's a kusarigama chain. It was adapted to be more lightweight, so instead of the usual tip, the blacksmith gave it a kunai blade," Evony explained. I didn't respond to him, I just kept looking at the weapons in the cupboard. There were blades that looked like the thing on the tip of the kusarigama chain, so they must be kunai... The final weapon in the cabinet was leaning against the walls of the cupboard. It was a long blade with a strange shape. It looked like a stick with a triangle-like tip. I looked at it in awe. "These are dual broadswords," Evony said, taking them out.

"What do you mean by 'these'? I only see one sword," I stated, looking at him with a sarcastic expression.
