@Milochondria
Our latest interview is with a very talented mobile designer milochondria ! Please enjoy.
What type of graphics do you make, and which type is your favorite?
I usually make book covers, icons and manipulations. My favourite styles are fantasy manipulations and aesthetics, though I don't do the latter as much. However, I like to try out every style because I believe that versatility is everything.
How long have you been designing graphics?
I've been designing since late 2015, so approximately four to five years, though I took a lot of breaks in between because of school and online drama.
How did you start?
My best friend saya_uzumaki11 got me into designing; I loved her book covers and I wanted to learn how to do it too so I started designing on Powerpoint ( the cringe lol). Then when I started getting good feedback (although my graphics were...yikes) it motivated me to continue designing and get better!
What is your favorite part about graphic design?
That's a tough one! But I'll say it's either the period of time where I'm editing the model; when I'm almost done with the cover and I'm adding final touches; or when I'm adding and editing the text. I despise the time I spend looking for resources *cries*
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from graphics designers on wattpad who I look up to, and digital art/ photo manipulations on deviantart. Sometimes when I'm in a rut I can also draw inspiration from a music video or song!
How long does a graphic typically take you?
It depends on the type of cover really. Usually more complicated covers like manipulations and hand drawn aesthetics take me 5 to 7 hours because I'm a perfectionist and I like to make sure every element is edited to perfection. My simpler designs like vectors and typography take 2-4 hours tops, because I believe simplicity is key when making those kinds of graphics.
What advice would you give aspiring designers?
Don't compare yourself to other designers, because every designer is different and unique. The only person's graphics you should compare are your new ones to your old ones!
Don't be afraid to try new things. The beginning to mastering a craft is always the first try.
Practice! Tutorials are great to learn new things, but if you don't practice you won't improve.
A fun fact about yourself:
I'm a very boring person lol let me think. I get startled easier than the average person? Like you can walk into a room, with me WATCHING you walk into the room and I'll still flinch like I just saw Slenderman eat a kid.
