Chapter 30 : The Loss Of A Hero

I move my arms and struggle to get a hold of my wand. As I do, I see Eva, Fleur, Luke and Rhiannon pacing towards me with the soldiers behind them. Alaric sees them too and is shocked.

He doesn't realise that he's loosened his grip of his wand. I take advantage of that and quickly grab my wand with my left leg and toss it upwards to hold it in my right hand. I wave my wand round and aim at Alaric's hand. A blue light comes out of my wand and hits his hand. He drops his wand instantly. I put in all my strength and the blue light continues hitting him. He shrieks with pain and then laughs. It doesn't seem to effect him much.

Rhiannon, Fleur, Luke and Eva help me and together we surround Alaric in a circle.

Suddenly, he divides into two Alarics and two of them divide into four. Soon there are sixteen Alarics and they go behind us and surround us. All of them laugh at us.

"Who is the real one?" Fleur asks in a worried tone.
"All of them look the same!" Luke exclaims. He hits the light of his wand on one of them but it just goes through that Alaric.

"I know who's the real one!" I say. "Remember we had this conversation a long time ago, Eva. We were talking about how you scare your brother with ghosts."

"And I said that ghosts didn't have shadows, nor did holograms. Oh my god! That's right! " She continued and whispered to the rest of them.
All our eyes are on the real Alaric, the one who's shadow we can make out.
"On the count of three." I whispered.

"Three" Fleur whispers.

"Two" Luke continues.

"One" Eva says

All of our wands hitting him, he feels a pain and crouches. Evanthia and I recite the prophecy to multiply the effect.

"We are the ones who'll never fail
Darkness, sorrow and hatred will leave a trail...
When brightness, affection and love shall prevail.
The seas of joy the soul sisters will sail."

Alaric screams in pain.

"Why don't you laugh now, you morron! Laugh like you did when you killed our parents! I want to hear you laugh!" I order him.
Evanthia takes her sword and throws it on him. "That's for killing our parents!" Blood flows out through his left arm.
Fleur throws her sword at him. "That's for killing my parents too!" Alaric's right arm starts bleeding.

Luke throws his weapon on him. "That's for killing Grifford and all the other Bellendians and also for turning me into this hideous creature!"
The sword hits his chest and it starts bleeding. By now Alaric falls on his feet and is gasping for air. I walk towards him and put my right foot on his stomach.

I take a deep breath and stab his chest with my sword, mercilessly.
Drops of his blood sprinkle on my shirt but I ignore it. "That's for killing Violet!"

"What? Violet's dead?" Fleur asks, startled. But Luke had alreadly seen her lying in the corner of the room. He rushes to her at once. Eva and Fleur run behind him.

I ask Rhiannon to kill Alaric once and for all so that he never comes back. Rhiannon waves her wand and chants a special spell at Alaric. White fog surrounds him and I watch him get torn into a million pieces and disappear into thin air.

At once, the whole room is filled with white and golden sparkles. I close my eyes due to the immense brightness.
I slowly open my eyes after a minute and I run towards Violet. I see a young handsome man with blond hair kneeling down, taking her head on his lap and crying. "Wake up Violet! Please! Open your eyes! You can't leave me and go!"

Fleur and Evanthia are also weeping.
"Luke! Your not a rabbit anymore!" I exclaim.
He looks at his hands and legs but still the look of despair shows clearly in his grey eyes. "It doesn't matter, now that she's gone!" He replies.

I control my tears because I don't want to add on to their misery.
Luke took out a ring from his pocket. "Violet, darling see what I've got for you. Wake up and see. You can slap me if you don't want to accept it. You can vow never to see my face again, but please wake up!"
Fleur asks, "You wanted to propose to her all this time?"
Evanthia adds on, "Why did you not propose to her earlier? You had so many chances to."

"Do you think she would accept me as a stupid rabbit? I loved Violet. I was waiting for this day for so long. After Alaric would die and everything would be normal, I would propose to her. But now I can't! I just can't!" Luke replies, wiping his tears from his red cheeks.
I can't control my emotions anymore. I can't see the troubled look on Luke's face. I put one hand on his shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Luke."
Fleur waves her wand at Violet and sparkles surround her injured stomach. The wound disappears but Violet still doesn't wake up.
"Can you do anything Master Rhiannon? Can you please bring her back alive? Do any sort of magic. There must be a spell to bring her back!" Evanthia pleads Rhiannon.
"Death is not in control of anyone. The dead cannot be brought back alive. But Violet will always be there with us in here." She points to her heart.

"And she didn't die in vain. It's also because of her we killed Alaric. She died a heroic death and all of us should be proud of her." I say, gulping down the look of despair on my face hoping that would make them feel better.
I hold Luke's arm with my left hand and Evanthia's arm with my right, and all four of us huddle up in a small group hug, venting out all our sorrows for Violet, who's one hand Fleur holds and the other one, Luke holds. Rhiannon stares outside the balcony and smiles at the twilight that arrives in Bellendis.

We get up and look through the large open balcony. Cool wind gently touches my face and moves my hair touching my ear.

Rhiannon asks Evanthia to wave her hand around and think of the greenery in which Bellendis used to thrive in and also to try and change the scene to what she thought of. Evanthia looks confused but she closes her eyes and does as she is told and within seconds, all the snow and darkness seem to go away. The colorful flowers of the gardens bloom and greenery spreads slowly, farther and farther away as though sweeping through the entire Bellendis and removing all the dirt. The whole place looks beautiful. I've never seen such a beautiful place ever. Everywhere all I can see us greenery. I can see the forbidden forest, it's green trees dancing in the light breeze. I can see the waterfall at a distant, carrying the cool and pure water through the stream. I can see the valleys, amongst which the sun slowly arises, lightening every single wooden house in Bellendis. The sight seems magical. I wish the modern dimension was this beautiful too.

"Well, it worked. Oh! How much I've waited to see this version of Bellendis!" Rhiannon exclaims.
Evanthia slowly opens her eyes and is startled at the sight. "What just happened? Did I just change Bellendis or was it Master Rhiannon?"

"You changed it! But how did you do it?" I ask.
"I really don't know how this even happened." She looks at her hands, surprised.

Rhiannon look at me and says , " Now you close your eyes, concentrate and think of changing the animals back into the normal Bellendians."
I don't think that I will ever be able to do that but I slowly close half my eyes just to show her that I'm doing it and imagine that all the animals have transformed into their original form, into normal Bellendians. I wave my right hand around in an abstract manner. I'm startled at the sight I witness.

The vultures, bats and wolves are gone. They've become normal Bellendians again and are so happy to find themselves back in their original form. All the dead bodies of Alaric's soldiers have disappeared into thin air. I can see colorful birds and butterflies in the sky now.

"How did this happen? I didn't know that I could do this!" I exclaim.
Rhiannon puts one of her hands on my shoulder and the other on one of Eva's shoulders.
"You both are the daughters of Queen Clarissa and King Hal. They named you both according to the powers they had thought for you. You, my dear are named Evanthia. This name means to bloom. You have the inner powers in you to bloom any flower you want, set greenery everywhere and play with nature." She looks at Evanthia and then me. "Whereas you my dear, are named Callidora, which means beautiful. You can change the appearance of any person, anytime. You can transform animals into the usual Bellendians too. You can turn an old woman, young. You can play with beauty."

"So that's why I could constantly change my appearance and take disguises?" I ask.
"Yes, dear." She replied.
"All this time, I thought that our pendents had that power. I never knew that we had it inside us." I say.

"That's because you didn't believe in yourself. You thought that you weren't good enough and that you were only here because of your pendents." She explains gently.
"You're right." I say. "I'm sorry, I left you Evanthia, when you needed me the most."
"Please doubt apologies Cal. You're my sister, and I couldn't be more proud of that fact." Evanthia says and hugs me.
"We'll have to prepare for Violet's funeral. Let's go Luke. Meanwhile, you both get ready for the coronation ceremony." Fleur tells me and Evanthia.
She drags Luke outside the room, along with her.
Rhiannon keeps her hands on our shoulders. "I always knew that the both of you will bring back justice in Bellendis."

"We couldn't have done it without all of you." I say.
"Yes. I know. That was the learning I wanted you both to understand. The art of teamwork is not everyone's to master. It's a skill in which both of you excelled. I'm very happy that Bellendis will get queens like the both of you." Rhiannon says.

Evanthia and I exchange glances and smile.
After a while, we attend Violet's funeral in the courtyard. Their tradition is a little different. The Bellendians wear floral dresses and wear jewelry made of fresh flowers. They believe in celebrating the good memories of the dead and not mourning at death. Almost all Bellendians come to pay their respect to Violet, including the mentors and the learners. She lies in a transparent coffin and the Bellendians come one by one and drop a flower on it.

They also sing a song as the part of the ritual.
'You will be remembered for ages to come,
We shall pray for you.
You will rest in peace wherever,
We shall pray for you.
You will come back to us in another form,
We shall pray for you.....'
"Violet played an important role in helping us win this war against Alaric. She was our friend. She stood by our side always and helped us out in everything. She was a true hero and a true Bellendian. We will never forget her service and always remember all the good memories that we have had with her." I say as I keep a violet coloured Lily next to her. Evanthia consoles Luke who's unable to stop his tears while paying his respect to his love.
She's then taken outside, where Rhiannon waves her wand around her motionless body and in a few seconds the transparent coffin seeps into the soil below.

Rhiannon makes an announcement, "We shall have the coronation ceremony in two hours to crown princesses Callidora and Evanthia as the former queens of Bellendis. This will be succeeded by the lantern leaving ceremony at dusk to honor all those Bellendians who have lost their lives in those terrible days of Alaric's rule. One lit lantern per person who has to be honored will be let into the sky. You may take as many lanterns as the number of people you have lost."
"All hail princesses Callidora and Evanthia!" The soldiers shout and the Bellendians join in.

"Oh no, please don't! We're just a normal human beings." I say, in an awkward voice. I really don't know how to accept this new sort of respect.
Fleur whispers in my ears, "Just accept it. Nod your head slowly and take a bow. Don't stop them so soon, they consider it to be rude."
"Oh okay, thanks." I whisper back. I take a gentle bow and wave at Eva to do the same.

The Bellendians soon begin to depart.
