Chapter 4 The Beginning

"Oh, so the ambulance truck come here now? The police were here on the case way before they came! What the heck?" Kara's blood was boiling, and her mind went hazy. She gave up on forcing herself to think before speaking. Trying to stop was like trying to quit and addiction, and she knew for a fact that she wasn't doing a good job at doing that.

John turned to his sister, "Sometimes they take a bit longer than we want them too. It's not easy going from one place to the other when so many people out there need their help. It's a tough job, Kara. Trust me. You know how our grandfather was a fireman for years before he retired, and he loved it."

"He told us he hated leaving the family behind when they needed him the most," her head bobbed side to side like speaking in an automatic cycle. "I know, I know. He's told us that so many times. I'm not ungrateful for that, but... I feel like they need more people to somehow take the job for emergencies like this. Especially if it involves death; which I have no idea if this poor girl is dying or not," she sighed. "If only we can see how she is doing; see if you know her or not."

John breathed out heavily, knowing where she was going with this, "I know what you are about to ask, and I don't like where this is going already. No, I won't go see if I know her. It's not worth the risk. Besides, the people in the ambulance need to do their jobs and take care of her. She's in better hands in theirs than in ours, you know that," he spoke as if a wise father was telling his son how to treat his mother and other women.

Kara gave in, "You know me too well, John. Sometimes I hate how well you actually know me, then we can actually do something without having you tell me what might happen if we do what we do."

"Well, in my defense, I'm your older brother, and if something terrible ended up happening to you, we both know that mom would kill me. Maybe she might kill both of us... possibly kill me more. I don't know. I'm just not willing to take that risk."

"We can just say we weren't looking where we were going. I know it's technically lying to her, but I just want to see if this girl is alright."

"If it makes you feel better, we can, we can ask what hospital she will be taken to; if they are planning to take her to a hospital, and we need to find out her name as well. Then we can visit her as long as we go during their hours, and when they're not having to work with her for whatever reason."

Kara sighed and nodded, giving in completely, "Alright, we can do that..." her head slightly went down as if she was ashamed for something terrible she had ended up doing.

John grinned calmly at his younger sister, "Don't worry. We can figure out what happened later. Who knows, maybe Nick knows what had happened to this girl."

"Maybe. I mean, I did see him talk to the police not too long ago. He was explaining what he had seen, and I have no idea if anyone told him what could have happened to the girl." Why am I calling her a girl? She's probably older than I am.

"It never hurts to ask," he headed off towards where the police were. It had almost been an hour since they had arrived at the scene. The ambulance had arrived about fifteen to twenty minutes later. He assumed that they would have told Nick something by now. If not, that would be a problem.

Nick nodded in reply, "Alright, officer. I'll keep a lookout. Thank you so much for coming. Have a great day, sir."

"You too, young man," the officer replied in response as he and another one of his companions went inside their car, driving away to probably another problem that is going on in the city that needed to be solved.

Kara and John stopped about one or two feet away from their friend without giving away their position.

"Do you know what happened to her, Nick? It doesn't look like nothing terrible happened to her. No one else was here but her, do you know if someone escaped before you noticed anything...? Wait... Did you notice anyone with her at all when you saw her "pass out?" Kara started spitting out questions faster than the Flash.

"Whoa there tiger, calm down," Nick chuckled softly. "I'm not positive what exactly happened to her. The police checked it out and found no other evidence of another human being with her. I suggested that she possibly passed out somehow, but I wasn't sure. Anything can happen in a blink of an eye. I told him what I saw, and he of course took it into consideration, agreeing that that is what happened during that time before she was out cold. He then said; regardless, to call him if anything suspicious happens that might involve her. I told him I would, and that's it."

"Is she alive?"

"Yes, she's alive. Don't worry about it. Like I said before, she probably just passed out. It's probably not as bad as it might seem."

"I guess... That still doesn't make me feel any better," Kara admitted out loud.

"I don't blame, ya. It's something that shouldn't be ignored at any cost."

"Did she say what her name was?" John finally spoke up, taking the wee space of time he had to have the chance to be able to talk in the first place.

"Thankfully they tested their new technology that they've recently released for scanning the identity of anyone in cases like this. They claimed that her name was... Kate... Katie...? Uh... McCony? I don't remember exactly. Name memorizing isn't my skill set."

"Do you mean, Katie McCay?"  a blonde haired girl approached the group in her pink and white dress, with pink heals.

"How do you know who she is?" John rose a brow.

"Oh, she's that loser at my school. She's, like, totally not cool in my opinion. She acts like she's, like, all in it, and everything. She acts like she's better than everyone, even me. She's like, so annoying. I so hate her!"

Kara snarled slightly as she turned her full attention towards Leola the blonde, "Hey, look! I don't care if you freaking hate her or not! No one deserves to go through something like this; be knocked out cold with no reason, or anything else terrible."

Leola gasped out of exaggeration as she moved her head side to side with sass, "Oh. My. Gosh! Did you just, like, try to insult me? No one can, like, literally no one! How dare you do such a thing! I thought you were better than this," she acted as if Kara didn't exist. "Come on, honey poo. We need to leave this jerk. She's, like, bullying me! I could cry."

Nick didn't move from where he stood. He noticed that Kara had held this frustration in for awhile now. He knew that she meant well, but was afraid of arguing with his girlfriend. There were times like this where he regretted dating her in the first place, but at the same time, he loved her, and he didn't understand why. Why can't I just leave her... ? What's stopping me from just going up to her face and announce that I want to break up with her? Do I just want to please her? Is it something more? Where's Maggie when I need her, or Thomas. He fell in love before and has dated other girls before. Maybe he might know what to do.

"Nick, I said, come on! Let's get moving! Come on before, like, I come over there and do something to you to make you go."

Nick couldn't help but chuckle softly to himself.

She got all defensive, "What's so funny? You better not be, like, laughing at me or something! That would be, like, so totally lame! I'm, like, too likable to be laughed at. I'm just so gorgeous," she flipped her hair to show what she meant.

Kara couldn't help but roll her eyes at Leola. She figured that she might as well keep talking to her since she already messed up as it is. Now that I think about it, I don't even care anymore. She needs to know that what she's doing is wrong. If no one will stand up for what's wrong, I will! "I'm betting you're the only one that thinks that! Especially with your type of attitude, girl! There's no beauty in selfishness, only in selflessness!"

"Kara, it's not-" John tried warning Kara that she wasn't worth it.

"I've had enough of you, you little brat!" she stormed over to Kara, believing in herself that she could defeat someone that was younger than her. "You will regret this, totally!"

"I think you might regret this even more, Leola, or should I call you, brat!"

"Ugly!"

"Stuck up!"

"Nobody!"

"Boyfriend user!"

"What did you call me?"

"Boyfriend user. You use your boyfriend for your own gain. You only want him around because of his looks. Other than that, you would dumb him in an instant if something he doesn't suit your needs. I'm not stupid. I know your games. I know your intentions, and they aren't as good as you show it off to be."

She laughed, "What about you? Sounds like someone is jealous that someone has a boyfriend as great as Nick."

Now it was Kara's time to laugh, "Boyfriends? Hah! That's a good one. I don't want a boyfriend. My goals in life is to finish school and become better in sports. Boyfriends won't ever be apart of that. Only my friends, family, and I will be."

"Ew. So you want to be a guy then? Disgusting. You're sick and shouldn't be alive right now."

"I never said I wanted to be a guy. I still want to be a girl, but not one that's as girly as you are."

"No, girls shouldn't play sports you play, nor video game like you do. It's like, so totally uncool. You're a disgrace to the girl race. You might as well be considered as a boy," she laughed as she started walking away. "See you around, loser!"
