Mom was mad alright. Really mad. She kept yelling at Alice. I sat on my bed listening. Alice needed to win this fight.

"Mom! Your 2rd husband hit your son and he had to go to the hospital! You don't even come when I call you! What you do is defend your husband!" Alice yelled at Mom.

"I don't care. I'm the mother of this house!" Mom yelled.

"Your not a mom to Kyle! Or me! But to the other girls you sure you all go shopping at the mall ever weekend! Kyle had been asking to go to Target to get some Lego, for three months! Every time you say there is no time!" Alice yelled. Mom said nothing. Everything in that was true. Everything.

"You are no daughter of mine." Mom said shortly. "Get out of my house!"

"Gladly." Alice said. "But I'm taking Kyle with me." She added.

"No you're not!" Mom yelled. Alice was already running up the stairs. She came into my room.

"Pack your stuff. You're leaving tomorrow in the morning with me." Alice said. I smiled. Finally.

I packed everything up. I didn't have too much. Five t-shirts, each with a shirt. A pair of clothes that were too big for me, that I used as Pajamas. Bed covers. Three books and four notebooks. My school backpack with my school stuff. I had a small bag of Lego. And a picture album. With my dad. My real dad. I packed everything in a small suitcase that was in my room when I moved in. Alice walked in my room. She had about five big backpacks. I took one of the bags and stuffed it in my suitcase.

"Ok buddy, I can't come back tomorrow. Mom wants me gone. I have another suitcase. A big one. I'm going to take my backpacks and your stuff and bring it to the car." Alice said. I looked confused.

"Mom is giving me the old pickup truck. Because they don't need it." She said. Oh, I thought.

"So, I'm the other suitcase you're going to climb in. I'll put you in the back, on top of everything. Not in the outside back, but in the back row. After a few minutes, I'll take you out. Then it's a one way ticket to Michigan." She said. I shook my head.

I climbed into the suitcase. Alice packed up everything. The doors slammed shut and nothing happened for a while. I waited. And waited. It felt as though it was taking forever. I waited some more. At last the front door opened and the engine rumbled alive. We started driving. Minutes later, Alice unzipped the suitcase. I hoped out and put a seatbelt on. Alice stared driving again. I looked out the window. Buildings of the town I was leaving speed by. And the best part was, I wasn't leaving nothing behind put the past. I couldn't be happier.
