Chapter Ten

Colin turned into the parking lot of his office. Apparently Matthew needed to talk to me about 1) how my powers are and 2) to talk to me about something Colin wouldn't share. I figured it was Matthew just wondering how I was doing, but possibly not.

I took a deep breath as Colin parked, mentally preparing myself. The building was tall and sleek, like a skyscraper but this building was not as tall. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot which made me wonder how many people worked for Matthew and how many knew about his secret organization.

"Ready?" Colin asked me.

"I guess." I grumbled and Colin laughed before getting out to get my wheelchair.

It was slightly embarrassing that I had to role into this building in a wheelchair, but it was either that or Colin offered to carry me. I quickly denied the latter out of sheer embarrassment.

Colin rolled the wheelchair to my door and leaned down to get me. That had become routine after a while. Colin or Dean would bend down and pick me up to either place in my wheelchair or on my bed or the couch or in the car. I rarely got to go places though and they never took me to the beach because they were afraid that I would have some sort of freak attack.

When Colin had got me in my chair he insisted on pushing me to the building so, of course, I had to let him. When we got inside Lydia smiled brightly at Colin, but when she looked me she looked confused. Understandable considering the last time she saw me I was walking.

When we got to Matthew's office he was standing right outside of the elevator.

"Ace! So good to see you!" Matthew shook my hand enthusiastically. "So tell me, how are you?"

"Uh, fine. I guess. I just got my sight back a few days ago so..." I said awkwardly.

Colin pushed me toward the large table. "Ok, Matthew, can we get started?"

Matthew nodded before walking to his desk. He grabbed a large stack of papers and then came back over to us and sat down. "Alright, Ace. First I want to talk to you about your powers or magic. Whatever you want to call it.

"So tell me about them. Have you seen anything pop up? Anything that would indicate a power when you mature fully?" Matthew rambled.

I thought about it for a few minutes before I briefly remember what had got me hurt those weeks ago. I had gotten extremely angry at Colin for no reason and I had, like super strength.

I nodded. "One thing, I think. A couple of weeks ago, the day I got hurt. Colin and I were horsing around. But he did something and it pissed me off for no apparent reason and all I could see was red. And then I was able to push him and he flew back several yards. It's like I had Hulk powers for a minutes there. I was so strong!" I looked down at my hands and smirked remembering that day. "And I tried to kill him.." My smirk slid from my face. "I tried to strangle Colin."

Matthew studied me for a minute. "Hmm. That is interesting. Well. Anything else?"

I shook my head. "Ok. Well, now moving on." Matthew said flipping through the papers. "You're turning seventeen in a month?" I nodded. "Very good. There is a training base that we have for the supernatural. It is a place for werewolves to learn to control their anger. A place for vampires to control their bloodlust. A place for witches and wizards to learn their magic. That is if they don't go to their fancy schools. It is also a place of protection for those in danger.

"For you it is a place of learning your powers and finding the others. Their is one other there who possess the same traits as you. You two will need to work together to find the others. You are stronger together. While you are at the training camp, Ace. You will learn of your heritage. Where you came from, who your parents are. Though we don't have all this information we believe that if you embrace those powers enough you will be able to gain the information that you need to-"

"Matthew!" Colin interrupted glaring at him. I was confused and so was Matthew, at first.

"Uh..uh, right. Sorry about that Ace." Matthew rubbed the back of his neck.

I narrowed my eyes at them, "what are you hiding?"

They exchanged a glance. "Nothing."

"Yes,you are, but I'll drop it." They looked relieved. "For now." I added.

Matthew nodded. "So, when do you want to leave?"

I gaped at him, bewildered. "Leave? Excuse me, but I'm confused. What do you mean leave?"

Matthew furrowed his brow. "Leave, to go to the camp. It's really not an option." He shrugged.

"Excuse me, but it is an option. And if I remember right you can't stop me from leaving because I am stronger than the both of you even if I am paralyzed!" I yelled and turned my chair around. I was doing all I could not to freak out. First they tell me that there is a camp for supernaturals. Then they tell me my father isn't my father. And last they tried to make me go there!? No way! This is too much!

I reached up and pushed the elevator but and waited. They didn't stop me, they didn't even get up by the sounds of it. The elevator dinged and opened allowing me to roll in. I turned around in the small space and stared at Colin.

"I can't get home without you. Or do I need to call Dean?" I snapped.

Colin got up and so did Matthew, they shook hands and walked towards me.

"Ace, please think about going to the camp. You need to be able to train there." Matthew said.

Then something dawned on me. "How can I train if no one has ever seen powers like ours?" I asked gathering the other teens who were like me into my sentence. I glared at him as a few puzzle pieces fell into place.

"Uh..." Was all Matthew said before Colin the elevator doors started to close with Colin and I inside.

When we got back home I told Colin to leave me alone and I stormed to my room. It was surprisingly easy to storm away from someone in a wheelchair. I went to my desk and laid my head on it.

Was there someone who was like us who knew more about us than we did? Did they come from where we came from? Where did we come from? If Dad isn't my real Dad, then who is? Why is Dad pretending to be my real Dad? Is Matthew lying? Is this a governmental ploy to catch people like us? Where is this camp? What other powers do I have? What powers do the others have? What was Matthew going to say before Colin cut him off? Why are they keeping secrets? What is it they want us to do? Who is the bad guy here?

Questions rolled around my head for an hour as I tried to figure things out. Sighing, I pushed away from my desk and went to the kitchen to find Dean. I was slightly upset with Colin, obviously. When I didn't find Dean or Colin I decided to go out on the deck. It was cool out but it was so much better than the stuffy house.

I sighed and leaned back in my chair enjoying the view. Too much had happened recently and my brain was too full to process all the crap that Matthew told me. Although it wasn't much information.

The ocean was beautiful and I wanted to get closer, so I wheel my chair down the ramp and onto the sand. Honestly, I expected it to get stuck but I was able to roll until I got onto the hard wet sand. It was easy then, kind of like riding a bike on the beach.

"This is great!" I say softly.

I roll just to the edge of the water and reach down to put my hand in the water. It was really cold and I retracted my had after a minute or two. Behind me I heard what sounded like a mushy step. The ocean was so beautiful that I didn't turn away to look at the person.

"Ace?" Colin said behind me.

I still refused to turn around and was watching a crab scrabble in the retreating wave. It was amusing to watch and a good thing to help me ignore Colin. I was still slightly upset and suspicious about him.

"Ace!" He growled grabbing the handles of my wheel chair and spinning it around so I was facing him.

My eyes widened in shock and I stared at him slightly scared. He was just a little scary sometimes and I hated that he might have been able to see it. I know, I'm stubborn.

"What?" I said blinking away tears. The palm trees over his shoulder suddenly needed my undivided attention. Although Colin seem to notice cause he looked even more pissed.

Colin squatted in front of me and took ahold of my chin, forcing me to look at him. His fingers were gripping my jaw so tightly I was sure I'd be bruised.

"Ace. Look at me." He said calmer now, though I still didn't look at him. "Acelias!" He growled jerking my head.

"Ow! Colin!" Tears welled in my eyes and I reached up to rub my neck. "That hurt, what do you want? I just want to be left alone." I attempted to force the tears away but I could hardly see anything besides color.

Colin's expression to one of anger and rage to one of sadness and then regret. He released his hold on my jaw and stood up in front of me. He cleared his throat awkwardly.

"We have to leave. You need to pack your things. We will be gone for a while." And then he turned and walked back up the beach.

I stared after him with my mouth hanging open just a little. After a minute of processing the bomb he dropped a strangled sob pushed its way out of my mouth. The tears I had struggled to push back started to fall.

Why was everything so damned complicated and hard and terrible?!

----

Aww! Poor Ace. I actually started to cry during that last bit. *sigh* I am in a..a..not a bad mood but I just don't feel like smiling or talking or anything. I just don't feel like showing emotion... Idk, but it's probably cause I am tired...
