Chapter 33

Sun occupied herself as she made her way once again to their meeting spot by counting the amount of days she had been at Ryseden. 50 days. It's been 50 days since I joined Ryseden. 29 days since I found Alex again. She paused at the corner, seeing him there already. As usual he's here first. She made her presence known, his head swinging up to watch her approach. She couldn't help but think he looked different. But she couldn't pin point how. It was almost like his entire being had changed. She stopped a good distance away. I shouldn't be trusting him. I can't help it though.

She stared at him, memorizing the planes of his face. He stared back. Will he ever remember? Will he ever be himself again? No, probably not. She winced at the thought, not prepared to come to terms she'll never have her Alex back. She stepped slowly towards him, expecting him to stay where he was or maybe he'd even step away. He didn't. He did the exact opposite. To her udder surprise, Alex matched her movement, taking a step towards her as well.

She narrowed her eyes towards him, trying to calculate the angle he was playing at. He wasn't the goofball Alex she had made the mistake of falling in love with. This time, he took another step forward. She followed his suit, stepping towards him as well.

Now they were feet apart. She couldn't help but wonder to herself, fantasize even of him remembering her, remembering the times they spent together. They had grown close over the few weeks they were together before she arrived at Ryseden. That much was expected from spending 24/7 with each other. She tried to rekindle that feeling when they reunited again. It clearly hadn't worked out completely. She took the next daring step, and he followed.

Now they were inches apart. She was forced to crane her neck back in order to get a good look at his face. His features were impassable. There was no crack in his shield to let her through. He leaned down towards her, and she held in a breath. He couldn't... Could he? She couldn't help the spark of hope that flared in her chest. He stopped millimeters from her mouth, his eyes flicking back and forth between her's.

"You know," he whispered against her lips. She gulped harshly, trying hard not to just burst out and scream for him to finish. "If you hadn't thrown away the magazine, I wouldn't have forgotten you."

She stayed still, shock seizing her body as she search his eyes for confirmation. They crinkled in smile, the same life returning to them. Relief capsized over her body as a disbelieving sob was released from her body. She wrapped her arms tightly around his torso, burying her face into his chest. His arms came around her as well, crushing her in a iron grip. She didn't care about the uncomfortable pains it caused, she had her Alex back.

"I've missed you, so, so much," she wept into him. If possible, his hold on her tightened, and he nuzzled the top of her head.

"I know, I know. I'm so sorry," he mumbled into her hair. He pulled away from her, wiping the tears off of her cheeks with his thumbs. "But I'm here now."

He clasped both sides of her face, pulling her in towards him. She met him half way, feverishly crashing her lips against his. Their breaths mingled, and their lips bruised at their force. Things simmered down after a while, and they stayed content with their strong, comforting holds.

"What do we do now?" Sun asked softly, happily resting in his embrace. He nuzzled his nose into her hair as he thought over the speculation.

"I'll somehow join you in Ryseden." Sun's head tilted up as she looked at him, her eyes narrow with disbelief.

"They'll try to kill you!" She argued, her grip around his torso tightening at the thought.

"I'll have a negotiator," he answered. An uneasy grin took over Sun's face as she heard his response.

"You think I'll have enough sway to keep them from killing you?" She questioned in disbelief. He brought his head down, kissing the skin where the ear met the head.

"I'm sure you have more than you think you do," he whispered. He pulled away, a grin resting on his face. "Besides I have a day of servitude and a candy bar to split with you." Sun gave him an unsure look, but complied with his wishes.

"What do you want to do then? Do you want to just go back to Ryseden and let me talk you in or do you need to get stuff back from Solaris?" Alex just shook his head, his hands sliding down to rest on her hips.

"All I need is you, Sun. Nothing else matters," he murmured, landing a few soft pecks on her lips.

"Let's go home then," she whispered back, a happy grin on her face as she grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together. God, it feels good to do this again.

Realization dawned on her as she stopped, reaching back into an inside coat pocket. She pulled out a slim, brown packaging and shook it slightly at Alex.

"I said I'd bring the chocolate bar next time." She grinned at him as she tore open the packaging. She split it in the middle, handing him one half. She shoved the wrapper back into her pocket before biting into the frozen bar. She moaned at the taste of chocolate tantalizing her taste buds before she started off again. Alex stayed in place for a bit, watching Sun as she walked. I have her back... no, she was never gone. She has me back.

Alex jogged a little, matching pace with Sun as he he laced his fingers with hers once again. Hand in hand, they made their way back to Ryseden. Back to home.
