(Wattpad) in Progress: Chapter 1
April 2, 2026
Hi Wattpadders,
I'm @nick, and I'm kicking off our first Product Round-up—a monthly update where we share what we're developing, releasing, and thinking about next. We'll aim to publish this every month to give you more visibility into our process and get you excited about what's coming.
You've probably noticed our recent launch of the Social Feed. Previously called the Newsfeed, this is a revival of a feature many of you have asked to bring back, so we're excited to see it live again. Right now, it exists in a simplified version as we test how you respond to it, so you'll only see stories added to Reading Lists by people you follow.
We're already seeing strong usage, which means we'll be adding votes, comments, new story alerts (like when someone you follow starts a new story), and more. We're also exploring ways to bundle updates so your Social Feed feels easier to keep up with, and will be introducing privacy controls, so you can choose what activity you share.
Recently, we gave the Story Details page a refresh and are rolling it out across Android, iOS, and Web to create a more consistent experience and improve clarity. Be sure to check out the new Similar Stories section when you open a story and let us know what you think.
We've also been cleaning up email notifications because we were sending... a lot. They weren't the most engaging or useful, and weren't really serving their purpose. You'll now see fewer, more intentional emails, and we'll continue improving how notifications show up across the app. The addition of the Social Feed requires us to rethink what belongs in notifications and what doesn't—more on that soon.
Our next big update will change how stories are categorized on Wattpad. This update applies to writers (for now) and reimagines our genre system entirely—in a good way. It introduces new genres with sub-genres, and separates fanfiction into its own system with distinct fandoms. Writers will soon be able to classify their stories once we finish testing with our @ambassadors.
Once all stories are updated, we'll use this system across Search, Home, Browse, and Recommendations to help you find the stories you love faster. This is a major shift in how content is organized on Wattpad, so you'll start to see it roll out in stages over the coming months.
What else are we thinking about?
🏠 Simplifying Home recommendations (fewer rows, clearer picks)
👎 Adding a "dislike" option to improve your recommendations
💌 Exploring updates to the notification feed and Reading Lists (including private lists)
📚 Improving Library sorting and editing
🛠️ Making promoted content more relevant to your reading habits on Home (so you see less of what you don't read—and more of what you do)
🧡 Improving the "Top Picks for You" row, which is intended to be the truest reflection of your reading graph, to better mirror your taste.
Check back soon for our next update!
