(Wattpad) in Progress: Chapter 2

May 6, 2026

Hey everyone, I'm @nick—back with your monthly product update.

Quick note: we're skipping the new story categories this time since they just got their own dedicated post (and are now rolling out!). Go check that out after this if you haven't already.

You might've noticed a few updates to the Social Feed—votes are now part of the mix. And we're not done yet. We're working on things like new story creation alerts and privacy controls for the Feed, and more ways to shape your Wattpad experience, like private Reading Lists and Library sorting.

This month, we're zooming in on one feature: "Show me less like this."

I'll hand it over to Associate Product Manager Gabby:

First of all—180+ comments on a feature I'm building? Didn't panic at all. 🙂

But seriously, reading through your feedback was incredibly helpful. One big takeaway: how we name things matters more than you think.

So, let's talk about what we're building.

The goal: make Home feel more you. A place where the stories you see actually match what you want to read next.

How we generate these story recommendations is based on your activity on Wattpad (what you read, etc). But it's not perfect. Sometimes we miss.

And until now, there hasn't been a clear way for you to say: "I don't like this story, actually". And you would know best—so we wanted to build a way for you to tell us.

That's where this feature comes in. It sounds simple, but there's more to it than just hiding a story. We explored a few different approaches:

💭 Should this just remove a story from Home for that instant satisfaction, or also improve future recommendations?

💭 Should it apply across every row, or start more focused?

💭 Do we ask why you didn't like a recommendation before we remove it (e.g. was it the genre, the trope, the plot, etc.), or keep it quick and frictionless?

💭 Should we focus more on what you like (positive signals) instead of what you don't (negative signals)?

💭 And could this feedback improve other areas, like Search or Similar Stories?

A lot of directions. So we made a call: start simple, learn fast, build from there.

We're piloting "Show me less like this" on Home (starting with English stories), where:

✔️ Selecting it will reduce similar stories in select Home rows to improve the overall relevance of your recommendations.

✔️ That specific story won't keep showing up again in most rows when recommendations refresh

We'll keep refining the experience based on what we learn from this pilot.

At the end of the day, this is about helping you find your next great read faster—the one that keeps you up for just one more chapter.
