Prolouge
"You're sure you want to do this?" I asked him glancing at him. He nodded and continued to stare into the distant setting sun. The orange was brilliant and looked as if it was made from fire. A magnificent, raging, and destructive fire. The leather satchel that was slung over my shoulder felt heavy, as if bricks had taken the place of my chalk.
Wind ruffled Luke's deep brown hair, and the sunset made it look more caramel colored than dark brown. His eyes, a piercing blue, now looked a dull green. I felt my cheeks start to grow warmer and warmer as I continued to stare at him.
What was going to happen when he battle was over? Was I willing to stay here? Or was I going to go back to Earth, where my family was. I swallowed and blinked away as I remembered that summer day when I left.
"Lila?" Luke's voice said softly to me. I turned and saw that he had a small, sad smile. He knew I had to make the decision after he battle as well.
"Yes?" I said, nearly whispering.
"After the battle," he said, "I want you to know that this life that is here... It could be ours. All ours, no one else's. You could have your freedom to color anything you wanted!" He was trying to sway my judgement. He rubbed the back of his neck, nervously. I met his eyes carefully, silently. I bit my bottom lip and felt tears weigh heavily on my eye lids.
I wanted to tel him that I'd stay, I wanted to tel him I loved him. But... I know that that wasn't what was real. It wasn't. My artistic mind saw them as real life, but a small voice hissed to me, telling me that it wasn't truly real life.
That was he ongoing battle in my mind. My parents never did appreciate my work. My friends thought I was too childish. But here, I could be who I wanted to be, no matter who I was or where I was.
At the role of the dice of life, my decision would be made at sunrise two days from now.
