Werewolf Stories
What are the typical werewolf plots? (If you have more, write them in the comments!)
1. An alpha male and an omega (or even human) female who break the rules to be together.
2. An alpha male and an alpha female who are of different packs. The alpha female goes through the entire story being "miss independent"...but eventually falls for him and gives up all of her dreams and ambitions.
3. Some random plot where the female come across the male and he screeches "mate" and acts like a dog in heat as he sexually harasses her for the entire rest of the story.
4. Every thing above, but it's two guys instead. And usually more sexual harassment is in it, because, for some reason, it's easier for people to write men getting abused like that then women. Don't get it myself, but it's just as horrible.
In a werewolf fanfiction, the alpha male usually is:
1. Aggressive (usually close to abusing aggressive)
2. Extremely attractive (the author probably spends half of the book writing about the many different details on how hot he is. )
3. Dark/mysterious (has the typical "tragic, hidden past")
4. Extremely strong (he's probably also the alpha of the strongest and darkest pack)
5. Rich (another portion of the book is spent on the female character gazing over all of his expensive furniture)
6. Intelligent (there is a never a moment in this book where this man makes any mistakes.)
7. Overly-sexual (got to give the horny audience their fanservice or they'll cry about how you cheated them out of it. Also, if you try to imply sex, the audience will beg in the comment sections to be able to read it, because who cares if the author is uncomfortable with it!)
8. White (honestly, how many characters aren't white in Wattpad?)
9. LITERALLY PERFECTION. HE HAS NO FLAWS
The woman usually is:
1. Shy (it's also her only "flaw")
2. Virgin (LITERALLY THIS IS THE MOST SEXIST THING IN EXISTENCE WHY WOULD YOUR FATED MATE CARE IF YOU HAD SEX WITH SOMEBODY ELSE, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE ALPHA IS USUALLY SAID TO HAVE HAD A LOT OF SEX BEFORE. WHY DOES SHE HAVE TO BE A VIRGIN BUT HE DOESN'T?!)
3. Extremely attractive (she probably think she's ugly, although the author will spend the first chapter listing her perfect face and body)
4. Poor (if she's not the miss. Independent alpha, then she is probably poor, because women can't be successful unless their set up for it, obviously.)
5. Intelligent (if it a highschool plot, she has perfect grades.)
6. Damsel in distress (she may be made out to be extremely powerful, but once faced with a challenge, her mate has to save her.)
7. Bad past (her parents probably died or something like that)
8. Depression or anxiety (she barley has any symptoms, though, except for the occasion "pity me" flash back.)
9. White (like the alpha above, it'd be really nice to have different races and cultures in books. It's not that hard, I promise. Just don't be racist and do some research.)
10. She's Perfect (despite all of the "flaws" and symptomless mental illnesses, she's pretty much perfect and can't do wrong)
The stereotypical werewolf story plot consists of:
1. Preview to the female characters life, all of her ambitions and dreams, her bad past and the long, detailed paragraph of how she looks.
2. SHE MEETS THE ALPHA MATE. With the typical line of "mate, mate, mate" (yes, he has a way with words, doesn't he?) he harasses her for the rest of the story until she accepts him.
3. SEX. SEXUAL STUFF. SEXUAL HARASSMENT. SEXUAL PRESSURE FROM PEERS. DID I MENTION....
SEX?!
If you didn't realize it before, the werewolf "story" basic plot is more or less just a shell of a book that is made for teenagers to enjoy because the guy is perfect and the girl is relatable. Its pretty much porn (that's what they get so angry if it doesn't have sex scenes) and that's the only part that most read it for. The 10 chapters of the female character weakly fighting his advances and slowly accepting him would get boring for a mature person who...actually likes reading interesting books. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm gatekeeping here, but the average person doesn't read those books for the plot. Do you watch a porno for the plot? Doubt it.
Once you start understanding how sexist and weird those books are, you can't look past it. I'm sorry, but reading a woman getting pinned against a wall after she told him "no" doesn't make me think "that's goals." I think "is he going to rape her?"
Now, I'm not saying that a werewolf story can't be good. Let's be honest, though. Most of them aren't good, so you trying to look for the good ones will be hard.
Another topic now...
GAY WEREWOLF STORIES
*GASP*
*SCREAM*
*oh no*
Gay werewolf fan fictions aren't that different, honestly.
One of the guys is obviously the "feminine" one. He is shy, has good grades, is a virgin and probably has never been in a relationship. He has the same traits as the female character.
The other guy is an alpha. He's literally just the same, but he harasses a guy instead and is stereotypically masculine.
The reason I think that there is so many gay stories on Wattpad is:
1. Its mostly made up of women who enjoy that kind of stuff.
2. It's a easy to pretend that you're good at making male characters by just slapping "gay" onto them and making it their entire personality. It's needs to be remembered that being gay is not a personality trait, and just because your character is gay doesn't mean that they have to be either extremely feminine or extremely masculine. Don't make a gay character, make a character that happens to be gay and build their personality separate. Please and thank you.
Surprisingly, werewolf stories are more than just annoying. They are actually quite harmful when it comes to young teenagers who don't know much about relationships.
I read werewolf fan fictions when I first joined Wattpad, and I was quite young back then. They made me think, for a while, that grabbing somebody and forcing them to be in a relationship with you was okay. My mind didn't question it since I hadn't been exposed to many relationships outside of family and some media.
Eventually, I understood that that kind of thing was both not okay and horribly weird. Not everybody realizes it as quickly, though, and unhealthy relationships can form because of it.
The reality of the "perfect" alpha guy is that is makes impressionable young people think that he's what they should look for.
First of all, there is a 1% chance that you will actually find a guy that is as attractive as the alpha guy.
Second of all, if you manage to find somebody that attractive or somewhat close, he probably won't be your age.
Third of all, if you are looking for a committed relationship, then he may not have a good personality or may be a bad person.
Fourth of all, let's be honest, obsessing over male celebrities because of their looks only won't change that. I mean, if you want to do that, you do you, but don't indulge yourself in a fantasy (yeah, I'm looking at all of those readers inserts)
So, if you LIKE werewolf books for whatever reason, then that's your interest and I won't judge you. But be aware of the harmfulness of those types of books and don't let yourself think that you should look for a relationship like the one in those stories.
REMEMBER:
1. Your partner has no right to touch you without your permission, and if you say no and then continue, that's rape and they don't care about you. It doesn't matter that you're in a relationship with them.
2. While physical attraction is important and you shouldn't ever make yourself be with a guy who you aren't attracted to, also make sure that they are a person you can respect, love, and feel proud to be with.
3. Nobody is perfect! You nor your future/current partner are going to be the supermodels in the story. They are fictional for a reason.
