Yoongi parked the car just across the street from the marina. The air smelled salty and from downwind just a little bit fishy, but not overwhelmingly so.
"Remember this?" he asked.
You did in fact the last time you'd visited the marina. It had been the night of prom your senior year of high school.
"You brought me here cause I was sad," you said. "I didn't want to come."
"I didn't want you to just go home and cry. You deserved to have some fun on prom night."
The night of prom caused a smile to break out across your face, even though it certainly started off as the worst night of your life.

You sat against the wall near the door of the venue. Your date had never shown up and he had been in charge of your joint ticket.
Your blue dress pulled around your feet as you brought your knees to your chest. It was silky and long making it look like a waterfall down your legs. It was the most expensive piece of clothing you'd ever boughten, and you'd only got it for prom. For the one night of high school that was supposed to mean something. Although, your basketball championship and the scholarship you'd gotten earlier that year was certainly the highlight so far.
"What are you doing out here?"
You looked up and met eyes with Yoongi. He was dressed in a simple tux, nothing extravagant, but it fit him well and you caught your eyes tracing down the V-shape of his torso.
"My, uh, date hasn't come yet." You tried not to sound too pathetic. You didn't want to sound like you had been crying (you had) or that you still held out hope you date was coming (you didn't).
"It's an hour past when it started." Yoongi looked down at his watch before crouching down beside you.
"Then, why are you just getting here?"
"I wasn't sure if I was coming. I didn't want to, especially after you rejected me."
A pang of guilt hit you square in the stomach like it was pitched straight into a catcher's mitt. Yoongi wouldn't have stood you up. But, it wasn't your fault you'd already had another date.
"Then, why did you?" your voice sounded like venom now as you tried to prevent the tears from shedding.
"Senior prom only happens once," he said. "Plus, I figured I'd get to see you happy, even if you were with someone else." He reached up and tucked a stray piece of hair that had fallen out of your elaborate bun.
You didn't say anything, refusing to meet his eyes. He sat down beside you, refusing to allow you to sit alone. It was getting late and dark.
"Are you cold?"
"No."
"You look cold."
"Well, I'm not!"
Yoongi sighed and pressed the top of his head into the wall as he looked up at the night sky.
"Listen Y/N, I don't think he's coming. Do you want to get out of here?"
"And, go where? I can't back home. It'll be embarrassing."
"I don't know. We could go anywhere. We're on the city, we might as well enjoy it."
You sigh, not seeing anything else better to do. Part of you wanted to just sit there and mope until Prom was over and you could just hitch a ride with someone from the team. But, you knew it wouldn't make you feel any better. At least you would have Yoongi to argue with. Arguing with Yoongi always improved your mood.
"All right."
You stood up, stumbling a bit and catching yourself on the wall. You weren't used to wearing heels since you pretty much lived on the basketball court.
Yoongi held out his hand, but you swatted it away. You found your balance after a few moments and followed him out to his car.
"Where are we going?"
"I don't know," he said. "Anywhere you want to?"
You shrugged. You weren't horribly familiar with the city, having only come for basketball and the occasional trip with your family.
"I don't really know the city," you said.
"I might have a place in mind. I sometimes drive out here when I need to clear my head."
You nodded. Yoongi pulled out of the parking and drove the city. It was dark, but the streetlights created stripes down your faces. Yoongi's face looked different in the shadows. They caressed his lips and jawline, his soft features becoming sharper.
"You really came all the way here for me?"
Yoongi smiled, but you noticed his fingers tighten around the steering wheel. "Don't flatter yourself too much. I did actually want to come."
"Huh, I thought the Yoongi I knew hated school dances. I remember you saying in practice after I said I wouldn't go that you'd never go to a dance."
"I can change my mind."
You shrugged, but couldn't hide you smile as you thought about the fact that he had only come for you.
"You didn't know he was gonna stand me up right?" The smile left your face and was replaced with a worried pout.
Yoongi shook his head. "No, you just lucky, Y/N."
You settled down after that. The yellow city lights striping across your face as you watched the city in the nighttime.
Yoongi parked the car in a place where most of the city lights ceased. It was only when you got out of the car that you smelled the salty water and the cool air that you realized that he had taken you to the marina.
"This is where I come when I need to clear my head sometimes." He held out his hand and fly took it, realizing that his palm was nearly as sweaty and clammy as your own.
You walked down the main boardwalk until you reached the end. All you could see was the vast blackness of the starry sky and the dark, murky water five feet below your feet.
You and Yoongi hung your feet over the side of the boardwalk, abandoning your shoes along the edge. Your backs were flat against the uneven wood and you gazed up at the sky, your hands still clasped together as if you two were stars in the vast darkness.
"It's nice," you said. "I can see why you like to come here."
"There's so much happening around you," he said. "But, it still feels like your alone. You can't see anything for miles and it's noisy, but it all just blends in the the water."
You closed your eyes as Yoongi spoke, feeling your grip loosening around his fingers.
"Shit," he said. "I didn't realize you were so tired. Come on, let's get you home."
You shook your head, refusing to get up when he pulled on your hand.
"Y/N, come on, it's getting late. Prom is probably almost over anyway. Your parents are going to worry about you."
You sighed and stood up, your eyes open, but you still felt a windy feeling in your head that made you both want to sleep and jump off the dock and into the cold water below.
"Dance with me?" you asked. "I really wanted that one dance at prom, you know?"
"Uh, here?" Yoongi asked.
He didn't wait for an answer before pulling out a pair of earbuds from his pocket and handing you one of the buds.
"You brought earbuds to prom?"
He shrugged. "You never know when you'll need them." He held out his phone. "Choose a song."
You scrolled through a playlist of romantic songs, finally landing on one you recognized and that you had heard being played while had been waiting outside the venue.
As the song began playing, Yoongi's hands slipped down to your waist, holding you firmly, but his fingers were soft, trying not even to crease the soft fabric of your dress.
"I'm sorry you have to settle for me. I know you would've much rather have danced with your date."
"I'm sorry I turned you down." You wrapped your arms around his neck and your bodies were just barely touching, the fabric of your dress and his suit rubbed against each other, and you could feel the heat from his body. "I would've said yes if I hadn't already had a date."
Yoongi went quiet after that, one of his hands coming to rest on the small of your back. The two of you turned slowly to the music, your head eventually coming to rest on Yoongi's chest.
The cold sea air deeper underneath the thin silk of your dress and you shivered. Yoongi's arms tightened around you then. Your bodies coming fully together. His embrace felt like a blanket just out of the dryer, which made you close your eyes and lean into him.
The song ended and you just stood there with your arms wrapped around each other. Yoongi's hand trailed up your back and nested itself in your hair.
"Don't waste any more tears on tonight, okay?" Yoongi half smiled down at you. "Just listen to that song whenever you remember the sad parts."
You nodded, feeling cold once again without Yoongi's body against yours. You began walking back to the car, and Yoongi took off his jacket, laying it over your shoulders.

Yoongi handed you an earbud and a smile broke out across your face, which in turn caused his gummy smile to make an appearance.
"You know, everyone thinks you're such a hard guy, right?" You took the earbud and placed it in your ear. "But, you're honestly one of the most disgustingly romantic people I know."
"Don't act like you don't love it," he said, his arm coming around you. You two sat almost like how you did on prom night, with your legs dangling over the side. But, the marina was too busy in the daytime to lay flat on your backs.
You leaned your head against his shoulder as the song you danced to with him four years ago played.
"Can you believe it's been 4 years?" you asked. "And look, nothing much has changed. You're still bringing me to the marina when I'm in a bad mood."
You kissed his cheek lightly and smiled as a light blush replaced your lips. You knew he didn't really like to show much affection in public, partially because the two of you weren't in an official relationship, but also because it wasn't really his style.
There was always the threat of your teammates find out, which wouldn't be the worse thing. But, for the sake of the competition and for Ji-yoo, you thought it best if you two kept whatever you had under wraps.
But, what exactly was it that you two had? You'd gone to high school together, played basketball for years together, and finally had slept together a couple times. Were you friends? Friends with benefits? Two people not putting a label on your relationship?
You didn't want to care so much. What you and Yoongi had was casual, but what if he got bored? What if he moved onto someone else? And, graduation was coming up. It was very likely you would see Min Yoongi again.
You laid your head in Yoongi's lap, grasping onto his hands like they were anchors for the ship that was you.
"Hey," he said, softly, running his hands through your hair. "Everything okay?"
You nodded as you watched the waves of the sea crack against bottom of the boats parked in the marina.
