Chapter 2
Rocket dug her talons into the bark beneath her as she found her balance on the branch. The two dragons still hovered above her unaware of her presence. "I told you we're not staying, yet you still accepted to join in at the bonding ceremony" came a rather annoyed sounding female voice. "I don't see why we can't stay, it's safe here" came a male voice. Staying as quiet as possible Rocket shifted her weight and raised a talon to move a branch out of the way.
She moved the branch just far enough to see the white dragon. She had to resist the urge to gasp, looking closely at the stranger she realized he had fur instead of scales. His entire body including his wings were covered in a coat of pure white fur. On his head sat a simple blue hat type thing. Perched carefully on his shoulder was a second blue shape. Suddenly the blue shape on his shoulder moved. It turned around and stared straight at Rocket. Rocket quickly released the branch allowing it to return to its place with a quiet creak. She held her breath wondering if the other dragons had heard. After a moment of nothing happening Rocket risked shifting the branch again.
The thing on his shoulder was a cat, a blue cat. It's eyes were violet, the same color as Rockets. It's was also still staring directly at the small red dragon. She stared directly into its eyes and seemingly out of nowhere a bright flash of light blinded her. She was now in a dark clearing. Looking around she spotted a small white shape huddled on the ground suddenly the world was lit by a blinding strange light as the ground seemed to shake. When Rocket opened her eyes the clearing seemed to be on fire. The small white shape had been nocked acrossed the clearing its fur was covered by some strange dust when it raised its head Rocket gasped it had the same violet eyes as the cat. The second she made eye contact with it the world seemed to shift and suddenly Rocket was in the tree again.
She was frozen in place the cats eyes were still on her. She was breathing rather heavily, what just happened? She was confused and honestly scared out of her mind. That was the first time she realized that the area was silent. She could still see the white dragon hovering above her but he wasn't talking. There was a loud crash as something heavy slammed into Rocket nocking her out of the tree. She yelped in surprise as she connected with the ground. Before she could get up there was a weight in her back pinning her to the ground. "Why are you spying on us" hissed a voice near her ear. "Sky don't hurt her" came the voice of the white dragon not far away. "Why shouldn't I? She was spying on us for who know what reason" hissed the dragon apparently named Sky. "I'm was just curios, I didn't recognize you" Rocket yelped attempting to squirm out from under Sky. The large dragon hissed at her not moving. There was the sound of footsteps as Sky's wait was suddenly lifted off the much smaller dragon.
Taking that as her chance Rocket got to her feet and sprinted through the clearing. "Hey" it was the voice of the white dragon. She ignored him and leapt into the nearby trees. She could hear Sky's angered growls telling him that her shouldn't have pushed her off. Rocket maneuvered through the branches making her way home. She was used to hostile dragons, but most wouldn't dare lay a claw on her. She heard the wingbeats a moment too late. Someone came down and grabbed her under the shoulders. She figured it was Sky since the white dragon, though larger than Rocket, was not large enough to carry her. Sky lifted her up out of the trees rising far higher than Rocket had ever been able to go. "Let go" came Rocket cried out in a pan kicked voice kicking and wiggling trying to get the larger dragon to let go.
"Sky!" It was the male dragons he was flying up towards them. "Put the youngling down" he growled in a demanding voice. This one comment infuriated Rocket more than she can describe "I'm not that young!" She yowled swiping up with one talon. She was surprised when her talon actually made contact with something. Sky's grip on the smaller dragon loosened until Rocket slipped from her grasp. Rocket cried out in fear, flapping her wings in vain. First she felt small tree branches and then, she was brought to a sudden halt by a much larger tree branch. She crashed into it was a groan, digging her claws in so she didn't slip. She sat their dangling from the branch, dazed. She lifted her head when she heard wingbeats. The white dragon landed on the branch and pulled her up so she was no longer dangling. She glanced up to see Sky hovering above them with a confused, yet curious, expression.
"Why didn't you just fly?" The question came from the White dragon who was sitting on the branch beside her. "No one wants to teach a runt to fly" she grumbled. She had never before admitted that she was unable to fly, than again she'd never had a reason to admit it. "You are the runt we were told about." He said in surprise "See Sky, this place can't be all bad if they allow a runt to live here."
Rocket tilted her head confused "your not recoiling in disgust to hear a runt is alive?" She asked. He started laughing lifting one of his paws to cover his face. All is a sudden Rocket felt a weight on her talon, glancing down she yelped in surprise when she was met with the violet eyes of the feline. "Sorry, that was just so funny." He said once he had stopped laughing enough to speak.
"Let me introduce myself, I am Galvin, this is my companion Neptune, and this is my overprotective friend Sky" he said he's gesturing to each of them in turn. There was a long silence before Rocket realized he was waiting for her to introduce herself. "Oh, my name is Rocket" she says. "About the whole recoiling in disgust at a runt, I see nothing wrong with you. Your just a smaller dragon." He says in a confident voice. "I had a sister once, I never got to meet her, she was a runt" This voice came from above them where Sky was still hovering. "I'm sorry for earlier. I'm just, on edge" she says glancing around. Rocket hadn't even noticed it was dark out until now. "Ima prey for spying on you, I didn't recognize you and was curious." Rocket apologized with a dip of her head. "Now, if you don't mind, I should be going home" Rocket says as she stands up. She winced in pain only now realizing that there was a bloody talon mark on her back.
"Oh my" Galvin said noticing the blood coming from the wound. Sky drops down beside them "I really am sorry, I tried to grab you when you caught me but I was to late, I must have scratched you." Sky said in an apologetic voice. Where do you live I can fly you there. Rocket wasn't sure if she wanted total strangers to know where she lived but she didn't think she'd be able to navigate properly. With a sight she tilted her head towards the main tree "over there, I live in a hollow above a root" she says. Almost as soon as she gives the instruction she is gently lifted off her feet and towards her home.
Hey guys, it's been awhile. Ok it's been a really long while and I'm sorry! I'm not even gonna say it's not my fault because, honestly it's all my fault. I'll try and be more on top of updating form now on. I promise!
Oh and WingedKitten345 has made some art for her characters Galvin and Neptune. Both of which have finally made an appearance in the story yay!
