eight.

Yoongi was close to falling asleep at his desk when the shrill ringing of a fire alarm jolted him out of his stupor. He jumped up, blinking slowly as he looked around his office. The alarm was still going, making him wonder if there was a drill scheduled that no one had informed him about. It wouldn't have been the first time.

Eventually, after watching many of his coworkers make their way out to the front of the building, he decided he should follow and see what had happened. He timed it perfectly, exiting his office as Hoseok pushed through the crowd. The younger male smiled excitedly ― way too excited for a fire drill ― and waved.

"Is this a drill?" Yoongi asked as they headed out. His question was soon answered by a man with a megaphone ― he didn't even realise they had megaphones at the place.

"This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a drill." He said.

"Shit. I left my phone and coat in my office." Yoongi muttered and turned around to go back. His friend watched with a frown.

"But that's... Wait, you're not supposed to go back!"

"That phone cost money: money I don't intend on wasting." Yoongi yelled back, pushing through all the people eager not to risk getting burnt.

"But it's just a phone! Surely your life is more important than that."

"I took a junior firefighter's course when I was younger, I'll be fine." Hoseok paused for a moment before deciding this wasn't a good enough argument for him to let his friend go back in there. He chased after Yoongi with the intention of pulling him back out, but when he grabbed the older's hand he ended up just being dragged along. He huffed, making sure it was loud enough for Yoongi to sense the displeasure, and begrudgingly followed.

"Wow, you need a new phone..." Hoseok noted when he saw the object they risked their lives for. "You do realise newer ones have been released since that one ― loads of new ones."

"Yeah, but this one still works..."

"I'm buying you a phone for your birthday. If we even survive through this..."

Yoongi rolled his eyes and pulled his coat on. He then shoved his phone in his coat pocket and started to leave the office again, "Don't you think there'd be more smoke and stuff if there was an actual issue?"

"Well maybe, but it's not a drill." Yoongi just shrugged. The pair then started to head out of the building again. All seemed to be fine until there was a loud, screeching siren; one that caused Hoseok to squeal and jump up against the brunette. "What was that?" He hissed.

"A siren. It's probably just the firetruck or something." Sure enough, a few moments a later, a fireman entered the building. He seemed surprised to see the two males there, and it caused him to fall silent for a second.

"The man said everyone had evacuated... Shouldn't you― Why aren't you out with the others?"

"I hate my job and I have a kid who's a pain in the arse at home." Yoongi deadpanned, causing another moment of speechlessness. "He just followed me because, as he constantly tells me, he'd follow me to the depths of hell."

"It's true." Hoseok piped up.

"What seems to be the problem, Kim." Another fireman said as he appeared beside the first one. "What're these two doing here?"

"They, um... They want to go to hell."

"Not gonna find that here ― try my place on the weekend: that's hell." The second one joked, eliciting a nervous chuckle from his co-worker and a small smile from the other pair. "No, but seriously, you guys need to evacuate the building so we can do our job."

"Okay. Maybe next time, Hoseok." Yoongi shrugged. They then walked past the firefighters and joined the group waiting outside.

They ended up being stuck outside for half an hour. By the end of it, the pair were sitting on the lawn out the front of the building, playing I-Spy.

"I spy with my little eye something beginning with... I." Yoongi said, squinting his eyes as he tried not to look at what he'd spied.

"Idiot?" Hoseok responded almost instantly.

"How'd you know?"

"It's been your answer for this whole game."

"Not my fault I'm surrounded by them. Your turn."

"I spy with my little eye, something beginning with..." Hoseok frowned as he looked around. He then spotted something, his eyes growing wide. "Fireman!"

"You're not supposed to tell me the answer."

"No, fireman!" Hoseok said and pointed to the men exiting the building. All the workers seemed to notice them too and started to make their way over to them. They all crowded around, eager to hear what the damage was.

"Turned out to be a piece of toast: someone left it in the toaster on one of the top floors and it burnt, setting the alarm off." The man said, holding up the blackened piece of toast. This earned a few chuckles and groans. "The building's safe to enter; you can all return to your jobs."

"Great, I'm an hour behind in my work because of a piece of toast." Yoongi grumbled as the group made their way back into the building. This made Hoseok frown and glance at his watch. He then looked upwards as he muttered under his breath, trying to figure out what time they'd been sent out and how long they'd been sitting around for.

"But it's only been thirty minutes..." He said when he'd figured it out. "How are you an hour behind?"

"I spent half an hour napping before the siren went off."

After spending an hour later at work to make up for the lost time, Yoongi ended up arriving home late. He grabbed some takeaway on the way home, too tired to make something himself. Jungkook was sleeping on the couch when he walked in, nearly falling off due to the position he was in. The television was showing some dramatic scene between two characters; Jungkook would probably make Yoongi skip back so he could see it when he woke up. He seemed to spend most of the day watching kdramas ― to the point where he'd forced the older male to go buy him some new ones when he got bored of the ones on television. He'd already finished one of the ones Yoongi had bought.

"Kookie~! Wake up~!" Yoongi sung softly as he crouched beside the couch. He placed the bag of takeaway on the floor beside him, before gently nudging the boy's shoulder. This got a groan but Jungkook didn't open his eyes. "C'mon, I got you some dinner. You've gotta wake up."

"No." Jungkook responded and, with a little bit of difficulty, rolled over. He then stretched his wings, (purposefully) hit Yoongi in the face... three times.

"Don't you want the food I bought; I didn't make it."

"No." The brunette sighed, figuring he wasn't going to get anywhere with the boy. He picked the bag up again and walked over to the table.

"Alright then. I'll put it in the fridge if you change your mind." He said as he sat down to eat his own. No response came from the younger. Jungkook stayed on the couch for the rest of the night, until Yoongi started getting ready for bed. He then did the same, barely acknowledging the older as he did so. The only time he did was when he struggled to get some of the toothpaste out of the tube, and shoved it in Yoongi's face until the job was done for him.

"Good night, Kookie." Yoongi said as he settled down in his bed on the floor, making a mental reminder to go buy another bed this weekend. There was no way he was spending the rest of Jungkook's stay with him in this makeshift bed ― it wasn't comfortable enough for that. "Do you want to get a new bed on the weekend, Kookie?"

"I like mine."

"Okay then... I'll buy myself a new bed then." The older male sighed and rolled onto his back, staring at the ceiling. He found it amazing that, during the day, he struggled to keep himself awake while he worked, but then as soon as it came time to sleep he found himself unable to. He blamed Jungkook: it seemed like a logical reason. He used to be able to sleep for hours before that boy was forced upon him. Jungkook and his new 'bed' ― that's who he was going to blame.

half way through, I forgot this was a yoonkook story...

I should be doing homework
