six.

Jungkook was watching some afternoon television drama when Yoongi came home on Friday. The older male stared at the television for a few seconds as he tried to figure out what was happening, his tired brain taking a bit longer than usual to comprehend things. When he noticed the slightly raunchy scene playing, his eyes widened and he practically lunged across the room, jumping behind the younger boy to cover his eyes. This startled and confused the boy, who sat there for a few minutes, trying to shake the thing covering his vision off.

"You can't watch this." Yoongi said as he watched the couple on screen. "It's too inappropriate."

"Why? What're they doing?" Jungkook pulled the hands from his eyes and frowned at the television. "They were just talking; what's so bad?"

"It's just... now they're not talking." The older male struggled to come up with a way to convince the boy to stop watching and stop asking questions. "This is just, it's not appropriate for your eyes. This is adult stuff."

"I'm an adult."

"I don't think so, not mentally."

"Hey Yoongi," Yoongi hummed in response as he thought the boy's attention had been diverted, "do these people love each other? Because they said they do. Is this what people do when they love each other?"

"Uh, well, are they the main characters? Does the show focus on them the most."

"I think so then. Because, usually the main characters fall in love with each other. These two will probably love each other and get married and live happily ever after." The scene seemed to be coming to an end and the older male dropped his hands to the boy's shoulder. They'd only been resting on his cheeks anyway, after the boy pulled them off his eyes. "That's generally how these things work."

Jungkook leaned backwards, resting rather awkwardly against the brunette. "I want to meet my main character. Is love nice?"

"That, Kookie, is something I can't tell you." Yoongi said sadly, sighing softly. "But it sounds nice. I'm sure it'll be nice for you."

"I hope so."

A loud crack of thunder woke the older male up. He lay there in the semi-darkness, listening to the sound of heavy rain hitting the roof. The weather had been nice the previous day, and nothing suggested that there was going to be a storm, so this was a surprise for him. Despite the unexpected weather, Yoongi rolled over onto his side and closed his eyes. He spent the following few minutes doing his best to fall asleep, but another louder rumble of thunder made him realise it was pointless. He wasn't going to be falling back to sleep anytime soon.

Lightning promptly illuminated the room, eliciting a quiet whimper from the bed. This drew Yoongi's attention to the small mound on the bed, realising Jungkook was also awake. When the following rumble of thunder caused another muffled whimper from the boy, Yoongi realised that he was also scared.

He then got up quietly, making his way towards where Jungkook lay. The boy seemed to be buried beneath his blankets, which quivered slightly. It was hard to make out what was what in the darkness, but Yoongi did his best as he lifted the blankets and felt around.

"Wh-What are you doing?" Jungkook asked when he noticed the older male.

"The storm is scaring me." Yoongi whispered. "You protected me so well the other night I thought I'd come back again."

"You're such a scaredy-cat." The boy muttered as he shuffled over, making enough room for the larger male. But, despite his insults, the second Yoongi was lying down he snuggled up as close as he could to the other. He wrapped his arms around the older male and rest his head against his chest. They lay there quietly, with Yoongi running his fingers through the boy's hair until he heard him snoring softly. Certain the boy was asleep, he allowed himself to do the same thing. While it took longer than normal due to the storm, he eventually did fall asleep with Jungkook in his arms.

Yoongi and Jungkook only woke when the light was filling the room and they were unable to sleep any longer. Neither bothered getting out of bed straight away, instead choosing just to lay there.

"How old are you?" Yoongi asked eventually, breaking the comfortable silence that had fallen between them. Jungkook yawned, rolling on to his stomach so he could look up at the older male more comfortably.

"I think I'm near eighteen. But I don't know; he had me for a while, we didn't celebrate birthdays."

"You must have been one of the early experiments then." The boy raised one finger. "The first?"

"The first that was successful." Jungkook sighed, dropping his finger back down onto Yoongi's chest. "I was his favourite once. But then he finished all the experiments he could do with me and he created more; bigger and better creatures, I guess. He didn't need Birdy anymore."

"Was that recently?"

"No. He stopped loving me ages ago. When I lost my novelty he just pushed me to the side. Recently was him running out of room and needing to get rid of the older ones." A sad expression passed over the boy's face and Yoongi began feeling sympathy for him once again. "Frog Boy went first. He was my friend."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. He went back to his family. They were very happy to see him again, so much they didn't even mind that he looked like an oversized frog with a human shape." The memory of his old friend made the boy chuckle. Yoongi remained quiet, stopping himself from telling the younger the likely truth: his friend was put down, just like Jungkook almost was. It made him more grateful he'd taken the boy in, and also made him wonder what separate Jungkook from the others. What did he have that made him worth saving? "I asked if I could go back to my mum and dad but he said they didn't want me anymore. That's why I was at the adoption centre before he took me in. When I asked if I could go back to them, he said I was too old and that they wouldn't take me either. They didn't want me as well, and that's why they gave me to him."

"I'm sure that wasn't the caseー"

"And now he doesn't want me. I'm not his little angel anymore." The boy sighed and rolled away from Yoongi. He lay on the edge of the bed, his back to the older male. His wings curved sadly around him. Yoongi looked at him for a few minutes before shuffling closer.

"I promise I won't get tired of you and leave you." Yoongi said to the boy's back. He wrapped his arms around him, pulling him closer to his chest. "You'll always be my only angel."

"It's only been a week." Jungkook responded quietly, but made no effort to remove himself from the hug. "We'll see."

After the boy cheered up a little, Yoongi pulled out his laptop and they started searching possible secluded places they could visit. Jungkook had kept his end of the deal and the older male thought it was only fair to keep up his end. This search took most of the morning, up until lunch, and had produced very few results. If their searching was to be trusted, then there was possibly one place nearby but that was it. And that was provided it was still as unfrequented as it said.

"Do you want to go there tomorrow?" Yoongi asked the tired-looking boy who was resting his head on the older's shoulder again. Jungkook nodded, shifting in his position so he could see the screen better. "I can't promise it'll be empty, but if it is then you can let your wings out and stuff. If it's not, then we'll go get an ice cream instead."

"I hope it's empty." Jungkook pointed at the picture of the place, his finger lightly poking the screen. "It looks pretty. Will it look that pretty in real life?"

"Hopefully. We'll see when we get there."

The place was accurately advertised. When the pair arrived there after the decent-sized drive, they were pleased to discover there wasn't a single other person at the camping site. It was probably the wrong time of the year to be camping, and Yoongi was grateful for that.

When Jungkook hopped out of the car, he pulled his jacket off and started running around the clearing. He stretched his wings out to their full size, sighing in relief at the feeling it brought. He then turned back to Yoongi, waving excitedly at him. The older male waved back from where he was leaning against the front of his car. The look on the boy's face made the brunette begin to smile. He chuckled as Jungkook started running around again, shouting at the top of his lungs.

After waving at him, Jungkook turned and ran as hard as he could. His wings began flapping and after a few big swoops he was up in the air. He grinned as he flew around, waving at the older male again from up in the air. He couldn't get very high or fly for very long, not having had enough practice and strength, but he flew for long enough to improve his mood considerably. Yoongi moved out into the clearing as he watched him, grinning up at the boy. When the boy was too tired to go any longer, he swooped down to the brunette, tackling him to the ground.

They laughed as they lay there, although Yoongi was struggling a bit due to the fact he'd just had the oxygen knocked out of his lungs. Jungkook smiled and, as the sun shone from behind and created a halo effect, he looked like an actual angel. The sunshine highlighted his wings, making the soft feather glow. The sight of the boy only widened the older male's smile.

Jungkook soon climbed off him and returned to running around. Occasionally he would jump into the air again and exercise his wings, before falling back to the ground. As Yoongi watched him, he struggled to come up with a single justification as to why someone would want to kill this boy ― even if he had become a nuisance and burden. He was glad he'd been called; even with his temper, the brunette would hate for anything to happen to him.
