twenty three.

One thing that became clear to Jungkook after his realisation was that the way he looked at Yoongi definitely had changed. He found it harder to fault the male now, even when he brought home the wrong flavoured biscuits. He couldn't help but eat the ones he'd got, enjoying every bite despite the fact he'd wanted chocolate and not strawberry. He grinned, widely, when he fed the blonde some.

Jungkook was happy. He was annoyed that the older male was oblivious to his feelings but, as he lay in his arms, he was the happiest he'd every been. And he could only assume that Yoongi was the cause.

Jungkook finished watching yet another love-filled episode when an idea came to him: everyone seemed to give presents to the people they loved. Maybe if he did that for Yoongi, the older male might realise the extent of the younger's feeling. He wanted to give Yoongi a cake, because if he did, he would also get to eat some. But there was a problem ― he had no way of getting to a place that sold cakes without Yoongi's help.

Eventually, the boy got dressed as though he was going outside with Yoongi and slowly, and nervously, crept out of the house. With every step he took, he'd glance around cautiously. A car drove past when he was almost at his neighbour's house, which almost made him rush back inside and lose all progress. But, thankfully, he didn't. He made it to the reclusive neighbour's house in one piece and even managed to knock on the door. It didn't take long for the male to answer.

"What do you want?" were the first words to leave his lips, as he frowned suspiciously at the boy.

"I need some help with something." Jungkook's voice was barely louder than a mumble, as he dropped his head and shrunk underneath his neighbour's gaze. The older male instantly softened ― despite his more aloof demeanour, the older male really was just a big softy. Especially when it came to the more endearing side of the human race (the more childlike side). "I-I need to buy a cake, but I can't get into town."

"Do you want a lift?" The boy nodded, pulling at the sleeve of his coat. He shrunk his head as far as he could into the collar of it, making his already small stature seem even smaller. "Okay... Just let me get my keys and I'll give you one. But don't think this is a regular thing, okay?"

"N-No. I won't." As long as Jungkook could help it, he wouldn't be going to this man for help.

It didn't take long for the neighbour to get his keys and return to the boy, now dressed in a coat that almost matched Jungkook's. He spun the keys around his finger before locking the door, the gesturing for the younger to follow.

"I'm Joonyoung, by the way." The older male said, glancing back at the boy who was walking a significant number of steps behind him.

"K― I'm Jungkook." Joonyoung nodded slowly, opening the passenger side of the car and letting the boy climb in. While on the outside, the younger was doing his best to appear calm, on the inside he was freaking out. So many things could go wrong now, but he had to do this ― he'd convinced himself that this was just something that needed to be done. So he'd risk it, for Yoongi.

Although, now that he thought of it, Yoongi would probably hate that excuse; if anything went wrong, the blonde might tell him off and be upset with him. Oh, this really was a bad idea, but the door was shut and the engine had started already. There was no turning back now.

Nothing went wrong. Despite all his worrying, Jungkook managed to get a chocolate cake and make it back to his home in one piece.

And that's when things started to go wrong.

One thing Jungkook failed to take into account when he left the house was the fact he doesn't have a key and without one, he can't get back in. It didn't take long for him to realise he was locked out ― just a twist of the door knob before the realisation washed over him. He couldn't even call Yoongi or anyone; all phones were inside.

More cars started passing by the house, and Jungkook could only stand in horror as he was forced to face the horrors of the outside world with Yoongi. He huddled near the door, trying to make himself as small as possible. A car pulled up next door and a group climbed out, chattering loudly as they wandered into their house. None of them noticed Jungkook, although he was grateful for that.

When the aeroplane flew above the house was when things escalated and the boy let out a small whimper, tears pricking his eyes. All he wanted was Yoongi right now; over and over in his head was just one prayer repeated ― please come, Yoongi, please save me.

And it seemed his prayers were answered when a familiar car pulled up to their own driveway. Relief rushed through the younger when his knight in shining armour stepped out of the car ― his safe haven. Yoongi grew confused when he saw the boy rush towards him, but enveloped him in his arms all the same.

"What're you doing outside, Kookie?" The blonde asked as he looked down at the top of the boy's head. "Are you alright?"

Jungkook shook his head, "I just want to go inside. I don't like it out here, not without you."

"Alright, let's get you inside." The boy allowed himself to be picked up by Yoongi, wrapping his legs around his waist as he rested his head on his shoulder. "What were you doing outside anyway?"

"I wanted to get you a cake ― because that's what the people on the shows do for the people they love. But then I got locked out." A small chuckle escaped the older male's lips.

"You're lucky I came home early then." Yoongi adjusted his grip on Jungkook so he could unlock the door, before carrying the younger inside. Much to the brunette's disappointment, he placed Jungkook down on the ground and left the house again, grabbing the cake he'd seen on his way in. "You know you don't have to buy things for me to prove your love, right?"

"I wanted to." This earned Jungkook a ruffle of the hair ― not quite what he'd wanted, but he appreciated the touch all the same. "Can we eat it now? All of this has made me hungry."

A knocking at the door stirred Yoongi from the afternoon nap he and Jungkook had been having. He disentangled the younger from him, climbing from the bed. He nearly tripped on their dirty plates as he did so, but 'gracefully' managed to maneuver himself around it and avoided an accident. The knocking continued, making the blonde worry they might wake Jungkook up. He muttered under his breath in annoyance. As he approached the door, he fixed his appearance to somewhat more presentable appearance, but then stopped when he realised who was knocking.

The Neighbour: a woman who had a nose too big for her face, both literally and figuratively. The idea of having a scientist married into the family seemed to appeal to her a lot, and she was constantly trying to get Yoongi to date one of her younger female relatives. By the fact she was holding another confused looking girl by the elbow, it was clear that this was another one of these visits.

"Ah, Mrs Lee! What're you doing here?" Yoongi asked, with an air of false friendliness. He smiled at the pair, trying to be as courteous as possible while all he really wanted to do was get rid of these people and go back to bed.

"I just wanted to introduce you to my niece, Hyerim." Mrs Lee shoved the girl forward, almost making her crash into the (significantly) older male. "She wants to be a baker when she's older, and she's been practising. Give him the biscuits, Hyerim."

The girl held out the container after receiving a quick nudge to the ribs, unable to meet Yoongi's gaze as she did so. Yoongi accepted the biscuits with a small thanks, although he felt about as awkward as Hyerim looked. It was at this time that Jungkook decided to emerge, dressed in only a dressing gown, singlet and boxers. Despite still being half asleep, he had enough sense to do his best to hide his wings. He wandered over to the trio, taking his spot beside the older male. On instinct, Yoongi wrapped his arms around him and pulled him close.

"Who's this?" Mrs Lee asked, all smiles despite the cold look that had entered her eyes. She could recognise the competition ― especially given Yoongi's past experience and the fact he wasn't particularly secret about his homosexuality.

"Jungkook, my―"

"His lover." Mrs Lee instantly bristled, while Hyerim (who was now standing to the side, forgotten) chuckled to herself silently. Jungkook's disinterested gaze travelled over the older woman. "Who are you?"

"H-His neighbour. Anyway, we've delivered the biscuits. Hyerim, let's leave these two alone now." Jungkook laughed as he watched the woman walk away quickly, practically dragging her niece with her.

"I thought you needed a way to get her away." Jungkook said in response to the confused look he was receiving from the older male. "Now if she thinks we're lovers, she might stop trying to hook you up with girls."

Yoongi instantly smiled, "Ah, my clever Kookie." The pair then made their way back to the bedroom, until Jungkook paused at the door and held onto the older male's hand. Yoongi turned back, frowning at Jungkook. "What's the matter?"

"Can you... Can you kiss me on the forehead again?" Jungkook felt foolish for asking but it had been a while since he'd received one, and he was really missing those signs of affection. But the foolish feeling quickly disappeared when he felt the older male's lips pressing against his head. He closed his eyes, focusing on the feeling of those lips and the hands resting against either side of his head. It felt nice. "I love you, Yoongi."

"I love you too, Kookie." But once again, Jungkook didn't feel at all satisfied by this.
