Chapter 8
The duet of footsteps against the dirt road echoed through the trees, the first set of footsteps carelessly tromping along, while his companion's was light, and nearly silent. He glanced over at his silent accomplice, quietly contemplating to himself. She seemed to ignore him.
"Hey Eclipse?" He ask out of nowhere.
"....What?" Came her impatient reply, not even looking at her partner.
"Why don't you act any nicer? Maybe then you'd have more friends. I noticed you never talk to anyone. You gotta be lonely, right?"
"..." Irked, she growled at him in annoyance. He cringed, knowing he struck a nerve. Luckily for him, she didn't act on her annoyance, and felt a little too lazy to pull out her blade and threaten him. Instead, she surprisingly responded to his question. "I don't need friends. They are just another liability to worry about. I'd be better off without friends anyways. I'm such good company, I entertain myself. Why have friends when I have myself?" She responded, her voice flat and her expression unreadable.
Despite her tough act, Tobias had a feeling deep in his gut she wasn't quite telling the truth. A wide grin crossed his face. "Well, now you don't get a choice in the matter! I'm now your friend! No getting rid of me, trust me, many have tried," he laughed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders cheerfully, though he had to bend his knees, as he was a foot taller than she was. She was too tired to pry his arm off his shoulders. At least he was quiet for 5 minutes straight before opening his mouth in a never ending rant of whatever he had on his mind.
"So, what's your favorite food?" He ask, wanting to get to know his partner a bit better.
"Goat cheese with a bit of ghost peppers mixed in." She responded, sighing.
"What about—"
"No more talking."
