Chapter One

Blood dripped down her wrist in thick crimson rivers. It was over. Finally over. She let her bloodied battle axe fall to the ground. She had done her job.

The sounds of the previous battle continued to ring in her ears. The sound of men's anguished cries as she slit their throats with a dagger or buried her battle axe into their head would usually haunt someone for life, but she was used to it. Again, it was all part of the job.

Eclipse wasn't in perfect shape, to say the least.  She had a long gash that started at the shoulder and ran down her right arm, still dripping wet with fresh, warm blood. Her tanned skin had many scars, but Eclipse honestly didn't mind. Her facial beauty made up for the scars that marked her body. Her golden eyes burned with the intensity of a predator as they glowed in the shadows of the evening, illuminating the area around them. Her long jet black locks of hair cascaded down to her hips. It helped her blend in the with the shadows.

Eclipse was a lycan, a half-wolf half-human beast that could shift from a human to a wolf on command. They didn't need the moon like those lowly werewolves. Like the other rare few lycans that still existed, Eclipse's human form still sported her wolf ears and tail, which were the dark grey of a corpse's empty eyes and tipped with white like the color of her victim's bones.

Eclipse wore a torn, crimson colored tank top with a leather weapon sheath around her waist. Her pants were a faded grey and allowed her to move through the shadows undetected. Eclipse didn't wear shoes. She wanted to stay connected to the earth, to let her feet feel the warm grass and dirt so she wouldn't lose her grip on reality.

Silence. That was the easiest part of being an assassin. Listening to the silence of death was ten times easier than looking into a victim's eyes as you took their life away.

Silence used to be the hardest part of her job, especially when she was in her teenage years when she was still training to be an assassin. The silence used to be a terrible reminder of the sins she committed, a constant heavy weight on her shoulders bearing down on her like a mountain. Now it just told her the job was done.

The silence was comforting. It was a time when you didn't have to plan your next kill or wonder in anxiety if your target was an innocent man or not. In the silence, all you had to do was simply exist.

Eclipse sigh. Silence never lasted forever. After all, soon someone would surely pass by and scream in terror at the sight of the bloody corpses spread across the clearing.

Eclipse finally moved, picking up her axe and stepping over a corpse. It was the corpse of a man in his mid-twenties with shaggy golden-blonde hair and now-empty lifeless eyes. Most would feel sorry for the man for dying so young, yet Eclipse thought nothing of it. He was a corpse. Just another corpse. Another part of the silence.
