Chapter 4: Hunting
Jane's mother called her down after she tried in all of her new clothes. "These were your father's when he was a kid." She told Jane and handed her a box.
Inside the box was camouflage clothes. "Thanks mom! Hey, is it ok if I enter the hunting competition?" Jane asked. Her mother nodded, "Sure, but be warned; guns have a kick." Jane nodded too. "I know, I've been working on not falling over. Anyway, I'm doing the archery competition."
Jane walked down to the hunting shop and signed up; camo on, a bow in her hand, and a proud smile.
A group of men were talking and waiting until the competition started. None of them noticed Jane.
When the competition started, Jane was ready. The competition was fun! She loved hunting.
After about an hour, Jane started back towards town. But as she walked slowly, she heard a stick snap.
Jane turned around to see a huge buck walked some yards away. She crouched down, aim with her bow, and shot.
The arrow stuck the deer right where its heart would be. It ran and Jane chased it. After a mile of running, the blood trail that Jane was following got thicker. Then Jane stopped; a nine point was laying on the leaf bedded forest floor.
She smiled and did a little victory dance. "This was for you dad." Jane said as she let the deer and picked it up and started dragging it out of the woods.
