"This is not going to work." Charlie said from the backseat of the car, sipping away on the Diet Coke that Ashton had bought for her on their way to Ashley's house.
Luke was there in the backseat with Charlie, trying his best to ignore her as she fought with Ashton, who was driving. He was busy worrying about other things, like the fact that Ashley and Ashton were about to go on a date and Luke was about to go on a date with Charlie.
"Will you shut up?" Ashton groaned, glancing over his shoulder at his ex-girlfriend.
"This is not going to work!" Charlie said, louder this time. All she'd done for the entire car ride was complain, and frankly Luke was getting a little tired of it.
He understood that Charlie was obviously going through a rough time right now, seeing as she just broke up with her boyfriend, but Luke really wished that she would try to be a little positive about the situation. He was nervous enough as it was, and Charlie wasn't helping.
"It'll work, you just have to believe." Ashton said, rolling his eyes. He reached back and grabbed Charlie's drink from her, taking a big sip of it before passing it back again.
"That's what you said to me when we made that bet." Luke spoke up, taking a moment to defend Charlie.
"See, Ash, and we all know how that turned out." Charlie scowled at Ashton, sipping on her Coke again.
"Yeah, yeah, he streaked across the football field." Ashton waved his hands around in the air, disregarding what Charlie's main point was. "That's not going to happen this time, this plan is much more thought out.
"I'm a little nervous about this." Luke said, tugging at the sleeves of his jacket. He was nervous about a lot of things, but mostly about the fact that Ashton was newly single and was now going on a date with Luke's girl.
"Everything is going to be fine, dude, I promise." Ashton assured Luke as he pulled into Ashley's driveway, and that's when Luke's stomach started to do flips.
"I don't feel good." Luke said quickly, shaking his head. He literally felt like he was going to be sick, even though all he'd eaten all day was a piece of toast.
"Don't throw up in my car again, please." Ashton begged. He honked the horn to let Ashley know that he was there.
If Luke had been taking Ashley out on a date he definitely would have gone to the door and waited for her there. That was mostly because Luke didn't have a car, but also because he was more polite than his dumb friend.
"This is not going to work, this whole plan is going to fail." Luke said, his heartbeat quickening. This was just great, their whole double-date-plan hadn't even started yet and Luke was already having a panic attack.
"Hey, calm down, we'll be fine." Charlie said softly, unbuckling her seatbelt scooting into the middle seat. She rested her free hand on Luke's thigh, trying to calm him down. Really it just made him even more nervous - and a little horny.
"Act like you like each other. Kiss or hug or something." Ashton said under his breath, his eyes focused on Ashley as she exited her house through the front door and began to walk towards them.
Seconds later Ashley was in the passenger seat, greeting Ashton as he started up the car again.
"Hi Luke." Ashley turned around in the front seat, her eyes immediately traveling to Charlie's hand on Luke's leg.
"Hey Ashley." Luke gave her a wide smile, his cheeks already tinting a light pink color.
"Hi Charlie, it's nice to see you again." Ashley flashed Charlie a smile as well, suddenly not seeming as jealous as she looked.
"Hi, how have you been?" Charlie said back to her, smiling as well. Luke knew that Charlie's smile was fake, while his was completely genuine. He was really happy to see Ashley there, she always made Luke feel more comfortable at times like this.
"Oh, I'm great." Ashley nodded, turning and looking at Ashton for a split second while he drove.
"That's really great." Charlie was still faking a smile, nervously playing with the straw of her cup.
"Who's ready to ice skate?" Ashton asked, tapping his hands on the steering wheel. His driving still made Luke extremely nervous, he didn't like the way that Ashton was so careless.
"I've never been before." Ashley said, laughing a little at herself.
Luke wanted to curl up in a ball and roll out of the moving car. Of course Ashley had never been ice skating before. That was just going to give Ashton an opportunity to treat this as an actual date and Luke would end up feeling even worse.
"What? You're kidding, right?" Ashton scoffed, his lips tugging into a small smirk. "Have you ever been roller skating?"
"Once or twice, maybe." Ashley shrugged.
"Well, ice skating is a lot like roller skating, you're just on the ice so it's a little more slippery. It's cold, too, but the place that we're to going has heaters." Ashton explained, turning towards Ashley and smiling at her.
"I just really don't want to fall on my ass in front of everyone." Ashley laughed again.
"Oh don't worry, you won't. I'll hold your hand the entire time." Ashton smiled again at Ashley, quickly glancing at Luke in the rearview mirror.
Luke clenched his fists, once again angry that Ashton was getting along so well with Ashley.
Before Luke even had time to process what was happening, he felt Charlie's lips press to his neck and Luke could swear that his heartbeat sped up even faster. She kept her hand on his thigh, giving it a small squeeze as she kissed along his jawline. Luke was definitely going to pass out. Sure, he didn't like Charlie anymore, but that didn't mean that Luke wasn't aloud to get a little excited about the fact that a hot girl was kissing him.
"Just play along." Charlie whispered, kissing a spot right below Luke's ear.
Luke let out a low moan, which really wasn't him playing along but more him being a little overwhelmed about what was happening, and definitely grabbed Ashley's attention by doing so.
She turned around and looked at Luke for a second before laughing and facing forward again.
"I think we could have just left them at home." Ashley said to Ashton, who was watching Luke and Charlie very intently through the rearview mirror.
Luke could tell that Ashton was jealous, it was very obvious that he still had feelings for Charlie and Luke was sure that Ashton seeing his ex-girlfriend sucking on another guy's neck only a day after their breakup hurt, whether it was fake or not. Luke really did feel bad about this, but he was continuing to selfishly use Charlie to get what he wanted.
"Oh, I know right? They've been like this all day." Ashton lied, but Luke knew that Ashley believed him. "I guess that's just what it's like to be in love, isn't it?"
They arrived at the ice skating rink shortly after and Luke rushed straight to the bathroom so he could take care of the little problem that had appeared in his pants on the way over there.
"Hey." Luke said as he came out of the restrooms, noticing that Charlie had stayed there and waited for him.
"Hey." Charlie said, looking Luke up and down once. "Everything okay?"
"Oh yeah, everything's great." Luke chuckled nervously, looking around for Ashton and Ashley. He couldn't see them anywhere and was beginning to expect the worst. "Where'd they go?"
"They went in and bought their skates already. They were going to wait for you but took too long." Charlie said, folding her arms across her chest.
"Yeah, sorry, I had something to take care of." Luke scoffed. Luke grabbed her hand to pull her along to where they were supposed to rent the skates.
They didn't talk to each other at all while they got their skates, and Charlie and Luke still didn't say anything as they walked into the skating rink. Luke only spoke after they'd sat down and put their skates on.
"I honestly hate ice skating." Luke admitted, not even wanting to get up and go out there.
"So do I." Charlie shrugged.
"Why the hell are we doing this?" Luke sighed. He honestly didn't see a point of this entire thing, it wasn't going to plan like Ashton had said and Luke wasn't having a good time at all. He just wanted to go home at this point.
"I don't know." Charlie said, shaking her head.
"I'm not going out there." Luke decided, sitting down on the bench again and unlacing his ice skates.
"So we're just going to sit here while Ashton and Ashley skate around for a couple hours?" Charlie questioned. She sat down next to Luke anyway, watching as he took his ice skates off and kicked them away from him.
"You can go out there if you want." Luke shrugged.
"Well I'm supposed to be your date, I think I should stay here with you." Charlie answered, also reaching down to take her own skates off.
"This is so stupid." Luke mumbled, standing up so he could find a place to sit where he'd have a good view of Ashley. "This is so stupid."
"Yeah, I know." Charlie said as she trailed behind Luke.
"It's not even going to work. Ashley seems much more interested in Ashton that she ever has been in me." Luke groaned, finally spotting Ashton and Ashley on the ice skating rink. They were just standing there talking, and it shouldn't have been a big deal to Luke, but it was.
"Oh my God, Luke, are you blind?" Charlie grabbed Luke's wrist and dragged him over to a table and chairs.
"Well, I don't think so..." Luke said softly, not understanding what Charlie meant. He sat down at the table, making sure that he was facing the ice rink so he could see Ashton and Ashley.
"You're seriously such an idiot." Charlie let out a huge sigh, sitting down at the table across from Luke.
"I'm not exactly understanding your point." Luke said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.
"This is why you haven't gotten laid yet, Luke, you're so stupid!" Charlie raised her voice, catching the attention of a few families around them.
"What the hell?" Luke muttered under his breath, surprised at how Charlie was acting. All this time Luke had thought that she'd been so sweet, and now she was sitting here calling Luke stupid for a reason unknown to him. It was like she was a completely different person.
"Ashley likes you, you dumbass!" Charlie huffed, resting her head in her hands.
"No she doesn't." Luke argued.
"Are you kidding me?" Charlie gasped, looking appalled at Luke. "It's so obvious, I've only met her a few times and even I can see that she has feelings for you that are a lot more than friendly!"
"She doesn't like me." Luke said quickly, shaking his head. If Ashley likes him, she would be here and not with Ashton.
"She likes you so much, Luke, I don't understand why you can't see that." Charlie said, rolling her eyes.
"She does not - "
"Shut up!" Charlie yelled, cutting him off. "Fuck, I'm so tired of you interrupting me. Just listen!"
"Okay, fine." Luke sighed, feeling defeated.
"She takes care of you when you're drunk, she helps you with your little girl problems even though she knows that it's pointless, and she never, ever expects anything in return." Charlie explained and Luke began to see what she was trying to say. "Girls don't just do that for anyone. She likes you."
"Okay, fine, so she likes me." Luke sighed, feeling butterflies in his stomach at the thought of Ashley actually liking him. "Then why has she been going out with that other guy?"
"Hellooo, she's trying to distract herself from the fact that you're a blind idiot who can't see that there's a perfectly good girl right in front of him!" Charlie said, as if her answer was totally obvious.
"Really? Do girls do that?" Luke questioned, raising his eyebrows.
"Okay, Luke, listen." Charlie sighed, "I've been in a lot of relationships with a lot of different guys, and usually if they're not paying attention to me, I do something about it. This is Ashley's way of doing something."
"So she's trying to make me jealous? Why can't she just talk to me?" Luke asked. He thought that this whole thing may have been a lot easier if Ashley and Luke had just talked about this.
"Oh my God." Charlie groaned again, covering her face with her hands.
"Do girls not like to do that either?" Luke questioned. He was pretty clueless, he should have paid more attention to girls while he was growing up, maybe he would have picked up on these things.
"Not when the boy they like claims that he's in love with another girl." Charlie shrugged. "I'm hungry, can you be a good date and buy me something to eat?"
"So she's doing that to try and make me jealous?" Luke asked, ignoring Charlie's request to go get food.
"Well, she's trying to get your attention." Charlie said, pouting a little. "What happened right when she started going out with him? You realized that you liked her."
"This is pathetic. We're both trying to make each other jealous. Why can't we just talk to each other about this like normal people?" Luke tugged at the ends of his hair, letting out another groan.
"I don't know, Luke, why can't you?" Charlie smirked innocently back at him.
"What do you mean?" Luke shook his head, once again not understanding what Charlie meant.
"What's stopping you?" Charlie asked.
"I'm scared, I guess. I'm scared that things won't work out. I'm scared that if something happened between us and it went wrong we wouldn't be able to stay friends. I'm scared." Luke explained after thinking for a moment, finally coming to a conclusion.
"Don't you think she's scared too?" Charlie questioned, her smile growing wider.
"Well, probably." Luke shrugged. "That's probably why she tried to make me jealous instead of just telling me how she feels."
"Okay, here's what we need to do - " Charlie began to speak, but was cut off by Ashton and Ashley walking up behind her.
"Hey, why aren't you guys skating?" Ashton asked. He had his arm wrapped around Ashley's shoulder in what seemed like a friendly way, but Luke still felt uneasy about it.
"We were just talking." Luke shrugged. "Why aren't you skating?"
"We were, it's actually a lot easier than I thought it would be." Ashley laughed. "Ashton fell over twice."
"No I didn't!" Ashton protested, shaking his head.
"Yes you did, and you pulled me down with you one time!" Ashley argued back, playfully hitting Ashton on the chest.
Luke couldn't take this. It was bad enough watching Ashton and Charlie act like this when Luke thought that he liked her, but things were so much different now. He really, really cared about Ashley, more than he ever cared about Charlie, and watching her with Ashton just sucked.
"Charlie, let's go get something to eat." Luke said, standing up from his chair too fast and almost falling over.
"Okay!" Charlie giggled, standing up and walking over to Luke. She grabbed his hand, quickly dragging him off to the concessions stand.
"I hate this." Luke said, squeezing Charlie's hand a little tighter as they waited in line just in case Ashton or Ashley was watching. "You know, all I wanted this year was to finally lose my virginity and I ended up getting sucked into this mess."
"All you want is to lose your virginity?" Charlie questioned.
"Yeah, that's really all I wanted to accomplish this year. I thought it would be easy, but apparently it's not." Luke scowled at the ground, looking at his feet as he took a step forward in line.
"Why is that so important to you?" Charlie asked, looking up at Luke. "I mean, you talk about losing your virginity all the time, why do you care so much?"
"I-I don't know." Luke shrugged. "It's just...important. Everyone's lost their virginity and I feel like I'm the last person to have sex."
"Okay Luke, here's something that you really need to get through your head: sex isn't everything." Charlie said, also glancing over her shoulder in Ashley and Ashton's direction.
"What?" Luke gasped. "Sex kind of is everything. Like, sex is how babies are made, and babies add to the population, and that's what keeps the whole world functioning."
"Well then when you're ready to add to the population you can have sex, but for now I'm pretty sure you have some other things to worry about." Charlie said, stepping up to the cashier and ordering her food.
"Then why do you have sex? If it's not important than why do you do it?" Luke questioned, following Charlie as she made her way back to their table, now carrying a big plate of cheese fries.
"Because I feel like it." Charlie shrugged.
"Well then why do you think that you have the right to tell me not to have sex when you do it just because you feel like it?" Luke asked. He stopped walking and turned around, facing Charlie.
"I'm just trying to help." She said. "Besides, I've only ever had sex with one person and it was someone that I really loved. I didn't just go up to some random guy and ask him to fuck me."
"Well I'm not going up to random girls and asking them to fuck me. Not yet, at least." Luke tried to joke with him, but really he just felt pathetic.
"I'm just trying to tell you that you shouldn't be upset about being a virgin. You're going to have sex eventually, you don't need to rush." Charlie sighed.
"Whatever." Luke said, shaking his head. He turned around and walked back towards the table, not wanting to hear any more of what Charlie had to say.
The date ended shortly after that when Ashton realized that Luke and Charlie weren't having any fun at all and decided that it was time to leave. Luke was actually thankful for Ashton cutting the date short because he wanted nothing more than to get as far away from everyone as possible.
The car ride home was almost the same as the car ride there. Ashton and Ashley sat in the front and flirted obnoxiously (Luke was still wondering if Ashton was faking or not) while Luke and Charlie sat silently in the back.
Luke hadn't said anything directly to Ashley since earlier that day and he hated. He hated this whole thing, he knew that he'd made a huge mistake by following along with this little plan that Ashton made up. It was childish of him to try and make Ashley jealous with Charlie, Luke wished that he could go back and fix all of this.
"Aren't you going to walk me to the door?" Charlie asked, unbuckling her seatbelt and turning towards Luke. He hadn't even noticed that the car had stopped and that they were now sitting in Charlie's driveway.
"Oh, sure." Luke nodded and got out of the car, taking Charlie's hand in his again. He led her up the driveway and to the front door, still not saying a word.
"I'm sorry that this didn't work out the way you thought it would." Charlie said, stopping when they reached her front door.
"Oh, I knew that it was never going to work." Luke shrugged. Sure, in the beginning he'd had hope that this plan would all go well and Ashley would end up confessing to Luke that she liked him too, but in the back of his mind Luke knew that this was not going to go well.
"Do you think Ashley believed that we were on a real date?" Charlie asked. Both Luke and Charlie looked towards the car, where Ashton and Ashley were both sitting in their seats and staring at them.
"I don't know, but it sure seemed like she thought her and Ashton were on a real date." Luke mumbled, looking down at his feet.
"I think she was just playing along." Charlie shrugged. "I mean, she thought she was just helping Ashton out."
"Yeah, I guess." Luke sighed.
"Here." Charlie rolled her eyes, looking back at the car once again to make sure that Ashton and Ashley were still watching before she stood up on her toes and kissed Luke on the lips.
It wasn't a very long kiss, and nothing like Luke had imagined kissing Charlie would be like. She used tongue, like, a lot. Charlie was a good kisser, and Luke shouldn't have been in shock, but he was. But still, he was focusing more on the fact that Ashley was most likely watching this than anything else.
"That'll definitely get her to say something." Charlie smiled, pulling away from Luke.
"Oh, okay." Luke nodded slowly, his mouth wide open. He couldn't believe that she just did that to him.
"I'll see you later, Luke." Charlie said, taking a few steps away from him and opening the front door for herself.
"Oh, okay." Luke nodded, smiling a little, as he stumbled backwards.
"Bye." Charlie waved to him. A confused look was on her face, probably because Luke was taking forever to get off of her front step.
"Oh, okay." Luke giggled, running his hands through his hair.
"Go back to the car now." Charlie said sweetly, walking up to Luke and grabbing him by the shoulders, turning him around and giving him a small push towards the car.
"Oh, okay." Luke laughed nervously, turning and waving to Charlie as he walked back to the car and got in the backseat.
"So did you have fun tonight, Luke?" Ashley asked as Luke got back into the car, turning around in her seat and smiling at him.
"Oh, I had a blast." Luke said, still a little dazed from kissing Charlie. He did not like her, that was over, but he did like kissing her.
"That's good." Ashton added, nodding his head to the loud music coming from the radio. "So have you lost your virginity yet?"
"Not yet." Luke said, shaking his head. He didn't even know why Ashton was asking that, when would Luke have had time to lose his virginity today?
"Don't worry, it'll happen soon." Ashton assured him, starting the car up again.
"Shut up." Luke groaned. Losing his virginity was the least of his problems now.
"Sorry." Ashton shrugged.
"Did you have a good time Ashley?" Luke asked, clearing his throat. He reached forward and poked Ashley in the shoulder, making sure that she heard him.
"Yeah, I had a lot of fun." Ashley said, but she didn't seem very sure of herself.
"Well... That's great." Luke said, giving her a fake smile. He really hoped that she was only acting like this because she thought that she was helping Ashton with his plan. The last thing Luke wanted was for Ashley to think this was all real.
"Uh huh." Ashley nodded.
"Maybe - Maybe we could do this again sometime." Luke suggested shyly, playing with the zipper on his coat. "I mean, just the two of us."
"Wouldn't Charlie get a little upset about that?" Ashley questioned, tilting her head to the side. Luke had momentarily forgotten that him and Charlie were supposed to be a thing. He really, really hated himself for going along with this fake date, it just made things a lot worse.
"Oh, I don't think she would mind." Luke shrugged, nervously chewing on his bottom lip. "I mean, it's not like we're officially dating or anything..."
"I'm sure Charlie would understand." Ashton added again, trying to help Luke out.
"Yeah." Luke nodded quickly.
"Well then, I guess we could do something." Ashley shrugged, still seeming unsure.
"Cool." Luke giggled, blushing again as he looked down at his lap.
Luke didn't say anything else until they got back to Ashley's house, and even then they only word that came out of his mouth was a simple "goodbye". He got out of the car after Ashley and got into the passenger seat, glad to not be stuck in the back anymore.
Luke still didn't speak while Ashton drove him back to his house, he was too busy thinking about how much of a failure this whole plan was. Ashley thought that he still liked Charlie and now she seemed to be interested in Ashton and everything was just one big mess.
"Dude, I have something to tell you." Ashton said as he put the car in park.
"Yeah?" Luke asked, hoping that Ashton had some good news for once.
"Ashley called it quits with that Brandon guy." Ashton said, a wide smile spreading onto his lips.
"Did she really?" Luke asked, kind of surprised. He knew that Ashley said yesterday that she was going to stop seeing Brandon, but Luke didn't think that it was going to happen this fast.
"Yeah, she told me all about it while we were ice skating." Ashton nodded. "She talks to much, I didn't know how to shut her up."
"What did she say?" Luke asked, suddenly interested in hearing more. It had never occurred to him that what Ashton and Ashley had been talking about all night may be important.
"Well she said that the whole thing was never really serious. I mean, it was at first, but then it turned into this friends with benefits type thing." Ashton explained, unbuckling his seatbelt and turning towards Luke. "He took her out on a few date and she only kind of liked him at first, then I guess he just stopped trying to be so nice."
"What do you mean?" Luke questioned, not knowing that Ashton meant when he said that Brandon stopped trying to be nice.
"Like, he was just trying to get on her good side so he could get into her pants. I feel bad for her, she always gets screwed over by guys." Ashton said, shrugging again.
"So they, like, fucked?" Luke questioned, not even wanting to know the answer.
"No, they never actually had sex, I made sure to ask about that." Ashton smiled, looking very proud of himself. "They just made out a lot, I guess, and sometimes they'd get to second base. You know, she'd suck his dick, he'd lick her - "
"Don't." Luke said quickly, cutting him off. He didn't want to hear about Brandon licking Ashley's anything.
"Anyway, she said that she called him last night and told him that they couldn't do this anymore, but she didn't say why." Ashton shrugged.
"I think it was because of me." Luke mumbled, remembering what Ashley had said yesterday.
"Yeah, that's what I thought too. I'm pretty sure she likes you back, she talks about you all the time." Ashton chuckled softly, tapping his fingers on the steering along with the beat of the music on the radio.
"Well yesterday she told me that I was important to her and since I'm obviously unhappy with her and Brandon she was going to break up with him for me." Luke said, biting down on his bottom lip.
"Then what are you even doing here?" Ashton gasped, reaching over and smacking Luke on the back of his head.
"Ow! What was that for?" Luke shouted, clutching the back of his head with his hands.
"You're such a dumbass, I can't believe it!" Ashton groaned. "She totally likes you, how are you so blind?"
"Hey, that's what Charlie said." Luke said, cracking a small smile.
"Because it's true!" Ashton yelled.
"Damn, okay, I'm sorry that I'm so blind." Luke said sarcastically, rolling his eyes.
"You need to go talk to her, I'll drive you back to her house right now - "
"No, don't. It's too late, she thinks that I still like Charlie and I can't just go tell her that I don't." Luke sighed, cutting Ashton off.
"Why not? You don't like Charlie anymore, do you?" Ashton questioned, raising an eyebrow at Luke.
"No, I don't think I do. I mean... She makes me kind of horny." Luke admitted, thinking again about the way she was kissing his neck earlier.
"Don't say stuff like that!" Ashton snapped, smacking the back of Luke's head again.
"She's not even your girlfriend anymore!" Luke whined. He really wished that Ashton would stop hitting him.
"I think you should just go to Ashley's house right now and tell her how you feel." Ashton said, slamming his hands down on the steering wheel and accidentally honking the horn.
"No." Luke refused, shaking his head.
"Yes." Ashton said sternly.
"No." Luke snapped.
"Yes!" Ashton yelled, smacking Luke again.
"Stop that!" Luke whined again. He unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the car door, beginning to get out.
"You're just going to go home?" Ashton scoffed, clearly not wanting Luke to give up just yet.
"Ashton, I need to get drunk." Luke sighed, rubbing his face with his hands. "I'll figure out all of this shit with Ashley tomorrow."
"Are you going to be okay?" Ashton finally asked, seeming as if he was worried. "Is your mom home?"
"No, she went out with one of my aunts for the night, she won't be back until later." Luke kicked at the ground, mumbling as he spoke. "I'll be fine, I won't drink too much."
"I really think you should just go talk to Ashley." Ashton suggested one last time, even though it wasn't any use. Luke had already made up his mind and he wasn't going to change it.
"I know what I'm doing, don't worry." Luke rolled his eyes again, wishing that Ashton would just go away. Surely he had better things to do than sit here and try to give Luke a pep talk all night.
"You need to go over there right now and confess your feelings. She'll confess them back, dude, I'm sure of it. And then you'll live happily ever after and you can finger her whenever you want. It'll be perfect." Ashton said, nodding to himself.
Luke did like that idea, but he knew that it would never work.
"See you later." Luke said, giving Ashton a short wave as he shut the car door without even saying a proper goodbye. He was just done with everyone for the day, he needed to spend some time alone.
Luke walked inside through the back door and went straight for the fridge, where he assumed that there would be some sort of alcohol for him to have. After finding some cheap wine (it smelled kind of gross, but it was Luke's only option) Luke made his way into the living room and laid down on the floor, holding the bottle beside him.
"I don't even know what I'm doing with my life." Luke said out loud before taking a big sip of the wine. He almost spit it out, it definitely didn't taste like what he was used to drinking.
Luke ended up drinking almost half of the bottle before the doorbell rang, and that startled Luke so much that he tipped the wine bottle over and spilled it onto the floor. Luke immediately panicked, thinking that it was his mom and she was going to walk in and catch him drinking and spilling wine all over the place.
"Well fuck me in the ass." Luke mumbled, picking the bottle up and setting it on the table. The doorbell didn't stop ringing, so Luke decided to go answer it before he cleaned up the mess on the floor.
He quickly pulled open the front door, not sure what to expect, hoping that this would he something that could get over with soon. Luke was definitely surprised with who he saw standing there.
"Ashley?" Luke questioned, leaning up against the doorframe so he didn't fall over.
"Are you alright?" Ashley asked, pushing past Luke and entering the house.
"Why wouldn't I be?" Luke asked, following Ashley as she walked further into the living room.
"Ashton called me and told me to come over, he said that he was worried about you." Ashley explained. She grabbed Luke's shoulders to keep him still and looking him over once, inspecting him.
"Well, I'm doing just swell, thanks for asking." Luke laughed, watching as Ashley looked all around the room. She spotted the big spill on the floor and let out a big groan.
"Were you just going to leave that mess there?" Ashley asked, huffing again and walking into the kitchen. She came back later with a towel, ready to clean up the mess that Luke had made.
"Let me do it." Luke insisted, getting down on the ground next to Ashley and snatching the towel away from her.
They argued for a few seconds before finally agreeing to do this together, and after that it only took them a few minutes to clean up the mess.
"So why are you really here?" Luke questioned, sitting down on the couch. He grabbed Ashley's wrist and tugged her forward, making her sit down next to him.
"I told you, Ashton called me and said that I should come check on you." Ashley said nervously, playing with the ends of her hair.
"Oh, okay." Luke nodded.
There was a very long pause after that. Luke knew that he should say something, he had a lot to say to Ashley, but the words weren't forming in his mouth. His mind completely blanked, and Luke was left staring at her like an idiot.
"I really didn't have as much fun with Ashton as I said I did." Ashley blurted out, finally breaking the silence.
"What?" Luke asked, turning to face her again.
"He called me last night and asked if I would come on this fake date with him so things wouldn't be awkward when he went with you and Charlie." Ashley sighed.
Luke already knew all of this, but Ashley didn't know that, so he stayed quiet.
"I would have had a much better time with you." Ashley said, reaching over and grabbing Luke's hand.
"He told me that you broke up with Brandon." Luke said, not taking a second to think about what was coming out of his mouth. He was a little drunk, it was hard for him to think things through at the moment.
"I mean, I told him that I wasn't going to fuck around with him anymore." Ashley shrugged, laughing to herself. "We were never really officially together, so I don't know if it's technically considered a breakup..."
"I really didn't mean to start a whole big fight yesterday, I guess I just got jealous." Luke sighed, realizing that Ashley telling Brandon that she wasn't going to hang out with him anymore was all his fault.
"I know." Ashley nodded. "And I told you, you're really important to me and if you don't like me hanging out with Brandon then I won't."
"But you shouldn't let me control these things." Luke said quickly, shaking his head.
Ashley was Luke's best friend before anything else and he cared a lot about her happiness. Even though he was pretty sure that Ashley had feelings for him, Luke wanted her to be happy, even if that meant that she had to hang out with some gross stoner.
"Like I said, Luke, it wasn't serious. It's okay." Ashley assured him.
"Charlie thinks that you were only going out with Brandon to get my attention." Luke said, again not taking any time to think about what he was saying.
"Well Ashton thinks that you were only going out with Charlie to get my attention, so..." Ashley trailed off and looked around the room, making every possible effort to avoid eye contact with Luke.
"Well that's true." Luke said, letting out another giggle.
"Really?" Ashley asked, looking up at him.
"Ashton made this whole plan. Charlie and I weren't really on a date, it was supposed to make you jealous." Luke sighed, finally admitting it all.
"You're such a dumbass." Ashley groaned, shaking her head.
"Everyone has been telling me that today." Luke pouted.
"I thought you liked Charlie, though?" Ashley questioned, even though Luke knew that she knew the real answer. "You've been waiting to go out with her for such a long time and it seemed like you didn't really enjoy yourself today."
"Well, I don't think I like her that much anymore. I kind of like someone else. It's you, in case you were wondering." Luke said, not even bothering to try and keep it a secret any longer. "I really like you, actually, and I want to fuck you. But I also want to kiss and hug you and cuddle with you."
"You're just realizing all of this now? What made you change your mind?" Ashley asked. Luke got a little upset at Ashley's comment, because he'd just admitted to liking her a lot and all she had to say was that.
"Well, yeah. I spent so much time focused on Charlie and I didn't even realize that you were here the whole time." Luke explained, scooting closer to Ashley. "It's like that Taylor Swift song, You Belong With Me. You were right there in front of me and I didn't even notice."
"You would make a connection to Taylor Swift at a time like this." Ashley scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"Charlie says that you like me too, because you take care of me and you're so, so nice and she said that girls never act like that with guys unless they like them." Luke said all in one breath, not even sure what he was talking about anymore. He just wanted to kiss her at this point. "I trust what Charlie says because she's a girl and she knows how girls think."
"Well she's right." Ashley shrugged, clearly trying to hold back a smile from spreading onto her face.
"And she - " Luke paused, realizing what Ashley had just said. "Are you kidding?"
"Why would I be kidding?" Ashley asked, a puzzled look on her face.
"Wow, I just - Wow. Ashley, I like you a lot, and I-I don't know why I didn't realize it until now but I feel so different when I'm around you and - "
"Hey, Luke?" Ashley asked, cutting him off.
"Uh huh?" Luke gulped, having no idea what she was going to say next.
"Just stop talking." She laughed, wrapping her arms around Luke's neck and pulling him forward.
"Oh, okay." Luke nodded, his nose brushing up against Ashley's. "Can we make out now?"
"Uh huh." Ashley nodded before pressing her lips to Luke's.
Luke immediately relaxed into the kiss, his hands hands moving from his own lap to Ashley's waist, pulling her closer to him until she was on his lap and he was leaning all the way back on the couch.
Ashley's lips moved slowly against Luke's, her hands tangling themselves in his hair, causing Luke to let out a few moans. She definitely knew what she was doing, whereas Luke was still baffled by the fact that he'd been kissed by two hot girls in one night.
"You're an idiot." Ashley mumbled against his lips. "You're a really big idiot."
"Uh huh." Luke nodded. He was still trying to catch his breath, his heart was beating so fast he thought he was going to explode.
"But I like you, okay?" Ashley said, pulling away from Luke for a second and looking him in the eyes. "I like you, and that's all that matters."
"Okay, good." Luke nodded, leaning forward and kissing Ashley again.
