"Aren't you hungry?" Michael asked, gently kicking Melissa's foot under the table. It was almost time for them to pick the kids up from school but they'd stopped to get a quick bite to eat, even though Melissa had hardly touched her food.
"No, not really." She shrugged, staring down at her plate.
"Well are you going to get a box and take that home?" Michael asked, pulling the plate closer to him. He picked up her sandwich and took a bite, not wanting the food to go to waste.
"I don't know, I probably won't eat it anyway." Melissa said, shrugging again. She looked up at Michael, who was enjoying the sandwich way more than Melissa had. "Do you want the rest?"
"No, I don't." Michael shook his head and quickly set the sandwich back down on the plate, already full from having eaten his own food.
"Okay, then, I'm done." Melissa nodded and stood up from her chair, grabbing her coat and putting it on.
"Are you feeling okay?" Michael asked. Melissa had been acting a lot better than she had earlier that month, but there was still something off about her. Michael understood, though, and he was going to give Melissa the time she needed in order to be okay again.
"I'm feeling fine, why wouldn't I be?" Melissa laughed nervously. Michael put his own jacket on and then grabbed Melissa's hand, leading her out of the restaurant.
"I was just wondering. This is the first time in almost a month that you've actually been out of the house for more than an hour." Michael stopped when they got outside of the restaurant, turning around to face Melissa. She looked up at him, a confused expression on her face, like she didn't know why Michael was so concerned.
"Yeah, I know." She nodded slowly. "It's weird, isn't it?"
"Just a little." Michael said softly. He leaned down and left a lingering kiss on Melissa's forehead, which had become one of the only places where she was 100% comfortable with him kissing her.
"We should probably get going." Melissa smiled and took Michael's hand in hers, pulling him behind her as she walked through the parking lot to Michael's car.
"So, uh, I was thinking..." Michael trailed off as they got into his car, buckling their seatbelts. "I think that maybe while Parker's at Beth's house this weekend we should do something."
"Oh? Like what?" Melissa questioned, reaching over and turning on the radio while Michael drove out of the parking lot and headed towards the school.
"Well, I don't know, I just thought that maybe you could see if you could get the weekend off or something." Michael shrugged nervously. "We don't really get to spend a lot of time alone."
"We're alone right now." Melissa argued, still messing around with the radio and switching between stations.
"We're going to pick up our kids right now, us being alone isn't going to last long." Michael scoffed. He just felt kind of bad, he'd always been a shitty boyfriend when it came to dates, and he wanted to do something special with Melissa. Just the two of them.
"Yes, so we should just make the most of this while it lasts." Melissa said sarcastically and then she actually laughed, which really surprised Michael. He didn't think he'd heard Melissa laugh in a long time.
"I want to take you out, though, and then after we can come back to my apartment and have sex all night." Michael joked, glad that Melissa was in a good mood now.
"Well, you've got his all planned out, don't you?" Melissa chuckled softly again.
"I do." Michael nodded.
"So...This weekend?" Melissa asked. Michael turned for a moment and gave her a blank stare, surprised that Melissa was actually agreeing to this. "I just have to make sure Katie's mom is going to be home."
"Uh, well, yeah. This weekend would be great." Michael said, still a little startled.
"Okay." Melissa nodded.
"So we're seriously going to do this?" Michael asked. He didn't think that Melissa was going to be very eager about going out, Michael kind of thought that she was going to make up and excuse so they didn't have to go anywhere. He was surprised to see that Melissa was actually excited.
"Yeah." Melissa nodded. "Why, were you kidding about it or something?"
"No, no, of course not." Michael assured her. He reached over and rested his hand on Melissa's thigh while he drove.
Melissa reached over and grabbed Michael's hand, lacing their fingers together. She looked up at him and smiled. "I love you."
"I love you too." Michael nodded, bringing Melissa's hand up to his lips and kissing the top of it.
The rest of the short car ride was pretty silent, they just listened to the radio. Occasionally Michael tried to sing along with the song that was playing, but Melissa just laughed and told him to stop. That made Michael happy, though, because he was so glad to see that his girlfriend was acting like herself again.
They got to the preschool just in time to see Parker and Katie walking out, holding hands like they usually did.
"Hi Daddy!" Parker said and ran the rest of the way to Michael, dragging Katie behind him. He let go of Katie's hand and held his arms out, waiting for Michael to pick him up.
"Hey, Park! What's up, how was school?" Michael smiled, lifting up Parker and holding him in his arms. Katie walked over to Melissa and held her hand.
"Good, me and Kitty got in trouble again!" Parker said excitedly, trying to stop himself from giggling out loud.
"No we didn't!" Katie spoke up, and when Michael turned and looked down at her she just laughed, covering her face with her hands.
"Yes!" Parker yelled, grabbing the sides of Michael's face and forcing him to look in his direction. Parker seemed very proud of the fact that they'd gotten in trouble. "Yes we did!"
"What did you guys do this time?" Michael asked, letting out a small laugh. He sometimes found it amusing when Parker and Katie got into a little trouble, as long as he wasn't getting calls in the middle of the day to come pick them up.
"Nothing, Mikey!" Katie yelled again. She kept looking up at Melissa, like she was afraid that she was going get in trouble.
"We drew some pictures." Parker giggled again. Michael reached up and adjusted the little beanie on Parker's head, making sure that it covered up his ears.
"Yes, pictures." Katie nodded quickly.
"On the wall." Parker added, and Michael couldn't help but laugh again.
"Oh my God, that's great." Michael said, actually finding that really funny. "Mel, did you hear them? They drew on the wall."
"What?" Melissa asked, seeming a little distracted. She was watching a group of moms that they'd seen probably a million times before pick up their kids, but this time she seemed to be paying a lot closer attention to them. "Oh yeah, that is funny."
"Alright now, let's get going before that mean teacher lady tries to talk to me again." Michael chuckled, and all four of them quickly made their way back to where they were parked.
Once they were all settled in the car Michael turned the heat on for everyone, trying to warm himself up before actually starting to drive.
"Daddy, what's for dinner?" Parker asked loudly, grabbing his backpack and pulling his stuffed lion out of it. Michael didn't even know that Parker had brought it to school with him, and he didn't mind, he was just scared that Parker was going to lose his toy one day.
"Well I don't know, bud, I think it's just going to be me and you tonight." Michael shrugged. He hadn't thought at all about what he was going to make for dinner, he didn't even know if they had enough food in the apartment for the two of them.
"Yeah, Katie and I have to go home for a couple nights." Melissa said, turning a around in her seat and looking at Parker.
"No, I like it when you sleep over!" Parker whined, his lips forming into a small pout.
"I know, I like it too." Melissa nodded, pouting just like Parker. "Don't worry, Park, we'll be back soon. You won't even notice that we're gone."
"Daddy, if Melly's not going to be here for dinner can we have chicken nuggets?" Parker asked, getting excited once again.
"Yeah, I guess we could do that." Michael said, nodding to himself. He was assuming that they'd have some frozen chicken nuggets somewhere in the freezer, they always did.
"Yay!" Parker cheered, waving his hands around in the air.
"I love when he gets excited about food like that." Michael mumbled to himself, rubbing his hands together to warm them up.
"Kitty, I'm going to miss you a lot when you go back home..." Michael overheard Parker saying to Katie from the backseat, both of them now facing each other.
"Would it be weird for Parker and a Katie to get married?" Melissa asked quietly, turning in her seat so she was also facing Michael.
"What? Why are they getting married?" Michael asked, not understanding what Melissa meant.
"I just meant in the future." Melissa laughed a little at Michael's reaction, grabbing one of his hands. "Like, they're practically siblings now, I wonder if it'll ever turn into something more than that."
"Parker has told me multiple times that he's in love with Katie, so I don't really know." Michael shrugged. He'd never really thought about Parker and Katie ever being anything more than best friends, and now he was wondering if that may change sometime in the future.
"She told me that - " Melissa started to speak, but was cut off by Michael's cell phone ringing in his pocket.
"Oh shit, hold on." Michael swore under his breath, fishing his phone out of his pocket and checking to see who was calling. It was Ashton, which was kind of surprising, because usually if he needed anything he would just text Michael.
"Daddy, swear jar!" Parker yelled, and Michael didn't understand how his son had heard him swear from the backseat, but he decided not to question it.
"I know, buddy!" Michael sighed and then answered the phone, fearing that something was really wrong. "Hey, what's - "
"MY WIFE HAS GONE INTO LABOR."
"Ashton, oh my God, stop yelling!" Michael yelled back, taking the phone away from his ear for a moment.
"I don't know what to do!" Ashton screamed. He wasn't quieting down, if anything he was getting louder. Michael didn't want to yell at Ashton again for it, though, because he knew that he was stressed enough as it was.
"You're sure she's going into labor? She still has a few more weeks, doesn't she?" Michael questioned and Melissa gasped from the passenger seat, a wide smile spreading onto her face.
In the last few weeks Melissa had spent a lot of time with Emily, helping her get the last few things together before the baby came. Michael didn't mind, he let Melissa do what she wanted, because he figured that if she couldn't have a baby of her own she might as well hell out with someone else's.
"The baby's due in 8 days!" Ashton yelled, and then a few shouts from Emily were heard on the other side of the phone. "She's definitely going into labor."
"Well, get her to the hospital!" Michael said quickly, not understanding why Ashton was calling him of all people.
"Yes, obviously I'm going to get her to the hospital!" Ashton snapped, then paused for a second. "Where is the hospital?"
"Oh, Jesus Christ." Michael groaned, covering his face with his free hand. He didn't understand how Ashton could be so clueless about this, they'd been preparing for the baby for months, Michael would think that Ashton would have some idea of what to do.
"Melly, does saying Jesus count for the swear jar?" Parker spoke up again, but Michael tried to ignore him and focus on Ashton for the moment.
"I don't really know, Park." Melissa shrugged and then turned her attention back to Michael, who was waiting for Ashton and Emily to stop arguing with each other on the other side of the phone.
"Michael, I don't know what to do!" Ashton said, sounding very panicked.
"Are you driving right now?" Michael asked, figuring that Ashton was just like him and had immediately hopped in the car when Emily told him that it was time to go.
"Yes, I'm driving!" Ashton snapped again. Michael knew that it would just be easier to let Ashton be as annoyed/frustrates/angry with him as he needed for now, he would yell at Ashton for being a dick later.
"Then put the phone on speaker." Michael sighed. He didn't need Ashton to get into an accident, they had enough problems at the moment as it was.
"Fine." Ashton said and Michael could hear some muffled movements on the other side of the phone for a second.
"Do you really not know where the hospital is?" Michael asked, hoping that if Emily was in the car too she wouldn't mind him talking on the phone with Ashton.
"He really doesn't know where it is." Emily spoke up. She sounded surprisingly calm, a lot more calm than Ashton was.
"Oh, hey Em. How are you doing?" Michael asked casually, almost like he'd forgotten that she was going into labor.
"I'm giving birth." Emily scoffed, still sounding like she was doing a lot better than Ashton was.
"Nice to hear." Michael laughed softly. "Now, Ashton, the hospital is literally three blocks away from your apartment, you just have to go around that one construction site first."
"Construction site?" Ashton mumbled, then became silent. After a second he spoke again. "Oh wait, I found it."
"Ashton, you can't drive through it!" Emily yelled, and Michael had to do everything he could to hold back from laughing.
"What do you want me to do?" Ashton yelled back at her, clearly irritated. All he wanted to do was get his wife to the hospital and it seemed like no one was making it easy for him.
"Go around it!" Emily shouted.
"Yeah, it's not a good idea to drive through the construction site." Michael chuckled to himself and Melissa also laughed beside him, still looking more excited than anyone else.
"Okay, I made it around the construction site." Ashton huffed, waiting for Michael to give him the next direction.
"Good." Michael nodded, smiling to himself. He really was happy and excited for Ashton and Emily, he just knew that he had to wait a while to tell them that. "How are you holding up, Em?"
"I'm still giving birth." Emily said. Thank God she was acting so calm, Michael didn't think he'd be able to handle it if they were both freaking out.
"Wonderful." Michael laughed. "Ashton, are you on the right track now? Do you know where you're going?"
"Yeah, I think I do." Ashton said softly, seeming to be a lot more calm now.
"Do you want us to meet you at the hospital?" Michael asked. He figured that it was the least he could do. And besides, Ashton was there when Parker was born, Michael wanted to be there when Ashton's child was born too.
"Can you, please?" Emily asked, starting to sound a little nervous.
"Yeah, I can." Michael nodded, not even bothering to ask Melissa if that was alright. He knew that she would just beg him to come with anyway. "Just go in and get settled, I'll be there soon."
"Okay, thanks Michael." Emily said and let out a relieved sigh.
"Thank you!" Ashton yelled again and then hung up the phone, obviously not needing Michael's assistance anymore.
"Wow, you're good at that." Melissa laughed softly as Michael hung up the phone, finally starting to drive towards the hospital so they could meet up with Ashton and Emily.
"Good at what? Giving directions to the hospital?" Michael scoffed.
"No, you calmed both of them down a lot." Melissa said, still smiling like crazy. She was probably more excited about this baby than it's parents were.
"Oh, yeah." Michael nodded quickly, now focusing on the road ahead of him. "Well, Ashton did almost the same thing for me when Parker was born, so I figured that it was only right to return the favor."
"Is Uncle Ash going to have his baby now?" Parker asked, anxiously kicking his legs back and forth as he sat in his car seat.
"Emily is having their baby, Uncle Ash gets to watch." Michael said. He didn't know how many times he'd had to explain that Ashton couldn't have a baby.
"Can I watch too?" Parker questioned, seeming very fascinated by all of this. Michael looked at him in the rearview mirror and saw Parker hugging his lion tightly to his chest, an innocent look on his face.
"No, I don't think you'll really like that." Michael laughed, crinkling his nose up. He didn't like watching Beth give birth at all, Michael couldn't even imagine Parker watching someone have a baby.
"Did you watch when I came out of Mommy's tummy?" Parker asked sweetly, forgetting that Michael had already told him this story.
"Yeah, and I had to help a little. It was disgusting." Michael scoffed, glancing again at Melissa. She was just sitting there silently, looking as if she was about to explode from how excited she was.
"Oh." Parker pouted.
They drove to the hospital as fast as they could and when they arrived Luke was already there, having come straight from work. Katie poked Michael in the leg multiple times while they were walking until he finally bent down and picked her up, carrying her through the hospital waiting room.
"Hey, what's going on?" Michael asked when he saw Luke standing in the middle of the waiting room, looking a bit lost. "Are they here yet?"
"Yeah, they're here." Luke nodded, smiling a little when he saw Katie in Michael's arms. "They just went back into a room a couple minutes ago, Ashton said he'd come out to talk to us soon."
"Where's Sara?" Michael questioned, noticing that Luke was alone.
"I'm probably going to pick her up later, I called and asked her if she wanted me to get her right now and she said no." Luke shrugged, reaching up and loosening his tie a little.
"Alright, cool." Michael nodded. He searched around the waiting room for a moment before finding a few empty seats and walking over to them, everyone else following him.
Michael sat down with Katie on his lap and Melissa sat next to him, with Luke on the other side. They all watched as Parker wandered aimlessly around, his eyes wide as he took in his new surroundings.
"Hey Park, come over here." Luke called, patting a place on his lap for Parker to sit. Parker smiled when he noticed for the first time that Luke was actually there and ran over to him, climbing onto his lap.
"Where's Uncle Ash?" Parker asked, facing Michael.
"He's back in one of the hospital rooms with Emily, she's going to have her baby soon." Michael explained, nodding in the direction of where Emily was probably taken.
"I want to see the baby." Parker said, giggling again. "Will the baby be my friend?"
"Yes, the baby will be your friend." Michael chuckled. "You'll just have to wait a bit before you can actually play with him or her, babies don't do much."
"I'm going to have babies soon, Park." Luke spoke up and Parker gasped excitedly, turning around in Luke's lap to face him so they could talk more about babies.
Michael was glad to see that Luke actually seemed excited about Sara being pregnant, because for a while it seemed like he was having a hard time with it. Luke really did want the babies to come, Michael could tell.
Michael reached over and grabbed Melissa's hand again, intertwining their fingers. He quickly kissed on her on the side of the head and Melissa looked up at him, smiling.
"Once I get a job and we move into a bigger place." Michael said, feeling that he didn't need to say anymore to remind Melissa that they'd get their own family started.
The waiting room was pretty quiet for the next few minutes. Luke and Parker were the only people talking and they were both being so quiet that no one else could understand them. Katie and Melissa were both leaning against Michael, looking as if they were about to fall asleep. And Michael was just waiting.
Suddenly there was a loud noise that startled everyone, and Calum walked through the hospital doors holding a screaming Lacey in his arms. He looked around for a second before finally spotting Michael and the others, and then quickly made his way over to them.
"Baby, shh." Calum said softly, trying to calm Lacey down. He found a chair that was facing the rest of them and sat down, not even saying hello.
"Hi Cal!" Parker turned around and waved to Calum, who was gently bouncing Lacey up and down on his knee while she cried. "Uncle Ash is going to have his baby soon!"
"I know, Park, I'm really excited." Calum nodded quickly and gave Parker a smile before returning his attention to Lacey.
"Why's she so upset?" Luke asked, looking on intently as Calum tried to take off Lacey's bright pink winter coat.
"I was giving her a bath when Ash called and said that Emily was in labor so I had to take her out and now she's mad at me." Calum chuckled softly to himself, taking Lacey's hat off too and smoothing her curly hair down.
"Aw." Michael said, and he could tell that Luke was trying hard not to laugh.
"Normally I would have dropped her off with her mom but she's busy now so I have to wait until later tonight." Calum sighed. He squeezed Lacey's sides, trying very hard to get her to laugh or giggle or do anything but cry.
"Does she really like baths that much?" Luke asked, watching Lacey as she continued to cry.
"Baby, please, stop crying." Calum begged, rubbing Lacey's back and bouncing her on his knee. "She loves baths so much, dude, I really don't understand why."
"Oh my God." Luke groaned and slouched down in his chair, rubbing his face with his hands. "I'm gonna have two babies."
Calum sighed and scooted forward a little, ready once again to give Luke a little pep talk about how everything was going to turn out just fine and he would be able to handle both babies when they came.
"I told you Lacey was just a baby." Katie whispered so no one else could hear, and looked up at Michael.
"Shh, Katie, don't say that." Michael held back a laugh as they all watched Calum struggle to get Lacey to quiet down.
"She cries at everything." Katie pouted, folding her arms across her chest.
"I'm sure you were like that as a two year old too." Michael whispered back, moving a few strands of hair away from Katie's eyes so he could see her properly.
"No." Katie said and shook her head, seeming very sure of herself.
"She's right. Katie didn't cry very much as a baby." Melissa leaned over, her voice also in a whisper. It was obvious that she'd heard their entire conversation, even though Katie clearly meant for it to just be between her and Michael.
"I was a good baby." Katie said and smiled sweetly up at Michael. She leaned her head up against his chest, wrapping her arms around Michael and hugging him tightly.
"I'm sure you were." Michael laughed, rubbing Katie's back again.
They returned to a comfortable silence, and Michael and Melissa and Katie watched Calum cheer his daughter up by singing softly in her ear and tickling her every few seconds to make her giggle. Luke and Parker were still sitting there and talking about who knows what at this point but Michael didn't care. As cheesy as it sounds, he was just happy that they were all there together.
"Mikey?" Katie whispered after a few minutes, poking Michael's stomach to try and get his attention.
"Yes, Katie. What is it?" Michael asked.
"I love you." Katie smiled again and then buried her face into his chest. Michael tried, but he couldn't stop himself from breaking out into a huge smile as well.
*•*•*
A few (more than just a few) hours later there was still hardly any news from Ashton. He'd come out once and told them that everything was running smoothly and it should only be a few more hours, but that was it. He was nervous and excited and anxious just like everyone else and couldn't help himself from talking loudly and disturbing other people in the waiting room.
"Mel, babe, I think it's time to get you guys home." Michael said, softly nudging Melissa to try and wake her up from her nap. Katie was asleep on his lap and Parker was probably about to fall asleep as well.
"We can stay, it's fine." Melissa mumbled.
"Babe, nothing's going to happen tonight. I think Em will have her baby tomorrow morning, I can pick you up so we can come back." Michael said, standing up. He wanted to get home and go to sleep as well, it'd been a pretty long day for all of them.
"Are you sure?" Melissa looked tiredly up at Michael, rubbing her eyes.
"Yeah, and if she does end up having the baby while we're gone you have permission to hate me forever for making you miss it." Michael chuckled and held his free hand out for Melissa, helping her up.
"Okay." Melissa laughed. Michael carefully passed Katie off to Melissa so he could grab Parker off of Luke's lap.
Calum had moved into a seat next to Luke so they could talk quietly with each other and ended up falling asleep on Luke's shoulder, and luckily Lacey had drifted off to sleep as well. Michael considered waking them all up, but he figured that they didn't have anywhere else to be anyway, so it didn't matter if they spent the night here.
"Daddy, I want to stay." Parker whined, already leaning over and resting his head on Michael's shoulder. He could argue all he wanted, but Michael knew that Parker was tired and would feel much better at home.
"We're going to go back home and sleep for a few hours, okay?" Michael said softly, making sure that Parker's coat was all zipped up before they made their way outside again.
"I want to see Uncle Ash's baby." Parker pouted, burying his face in the crook of Michael's neck to shield himself from the cold.
"We're going to come back tomorrow morning and see what's going on, okay bud?" Michael said softly. Melissa followed closed behind him with Katie, who was completely passed out and probably didn't care at all whether or not she missed the birth of Ashton and Emily's baby.
"Really?" Parker questioned. "Will I still have to go to school?"
"Uh, I don't know." Michael said, realizing that he probably shouldn't have told Parker that they'd come back in the morning. "We'll see how things go."
"Okay." Parker sighed, and at this point he was too tired to try and argue with Michael about this any more.
Michael drove to Katie and Melissa's house first to drop them off. He brought Parker inside with them, of course, and had him hang out on the couch in the living room whie Michael went upstairs with Melissa to help her put Katie to bed. She slept through the whole car ride home and probably wasn't going to wake up until the next morning.
"Can you just pull the covers down, please?" Melissa whispered, still carrying Katie as they walked into her room.
Michael quickly walked over to the bed and pulled the blankets down, then took Katie from Melissa and laid her down on the bed. Both of them helped take Katie's shoes and coat off, and then decided that it was going to be easier to just let her sleep in the same clothes she wore that day. Michael and Melissa tucked Katie in and walked out of the room, quietly shutting the door behind them.
"Are you going to be alright?" Michael asked as they stepped out into the hallway. Melissa and Katie had basically been living with Michael and Parker at their apartment for the last month and a half or so, but Katie's mom had caught on and was now insiting that the two girls stayed at home for a while.
"Yeah, of course." Melissa nodded. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Michael's waist, pulling him in for a hug.
"We'll head straight to the hospital tomorrow morning and see what's going on with Emily, alright?" Michael said softly, kissing the top of her head.
"Alright." Melissa nodded and looked up at Michael, biting down on her bottom lip.
"Are you excited?" Michael asked, laughing a little. he already knew that Melissa was more excited about this than he was. "You literally seem like you're mmore excited than anyone else. Like, you're more excited than Ash and Emily."
"I don't think I'm more excited than them, but yeah, I'm really excited." Melissa chuckled. Michael was glad that Melissa and Emily had been able to become such good friends, he knew that Emily helped Melissa a lot when she was feeling upset about this and it really meant a lot to him that Melissa was in a better mood because of her.
"Do you always get this excited about babies?" Michael asked, because before all of this he hadn't thought that Melissa liked kids this much. He knew that she liked taking care of kids, of course, that's why her job was to watch one, but this almost seemed different.
"I don't know, I guess." Melissa shrugged. "They're just so cute when they're not being brats, I want, like, 10 of them."
"Wait, you really want 10 kids?" Michael asked, hoping that Melissa was kidding. He wanted to have one or maybe two more kids, but not that many.
"No, Michael, I don't want 10 kids." Melissa laughed, rolling her eyes. "I've heard stories about giving birth, I don't want to go through that 10 times."
"Oh, good." Michael let out a relieved sigh, joking around a little with Melissa. "I don't want to go through you being pregnant 10 times either."
"Oh, shut up." Melissa playfully slapped Michael on the chest, trying to keep her laughter down.
They laughed quietly with each other for a few minutes, trying to calm one another down so they didn't wake Katie.
"I think you're going to be a really great mom, Mel." Michael said softly once they were all done laughing, changing the subject to a more serious one.
"Do you really?" Melissa asked and looked up at Michael, her eyes wide.
"Yeah, babe, of course." Michael nodded, wrapping his arms around Melissa's waist and pulling her closer to him. He gently kissed her on the lips, knowing that he had to leave soon. "I love you."
"I love you too." Melissa smiled, standing up on her toes and kissing Michael again. "So much."
They said their goodbyes and then Michael went back downstairs to get Parker, feeling the happiest that he'd been in a long time.
