Prologue
Myeong Jae Hyun would never forget that day of his father's tragic death, the day when he felt like the world collapsed under him.
It was just a normal afternoon, like any other day, when the five-year-old boy Jae Hyun was chilling on the apartment's balcony with his father. Sitting on his father's laps, he fixed his eyes on the glowing red sun setting along the horizon.
"Daddy, is that man flying to us?" he pointed at the sky.
"What?" his father scanned through the sky, but all he could see was just a distant black dot. "You sure that's a man? I only see a dot," the father smiled and stroked his son's hair.
"I can see him, daddy!"
"Really?" his father's smile began to vanish as his expression stiffened. So his prediction turned out to be right. Not only his flying ability, but also his wife's super senses were passed down to his son. He could see a man approaching from such a distance, that was incredible. But then who was the flying man? Was there anybody who was able to fly like him in South Korea that he did not know? If there was, why did he come here? Was that man going to do something bad to his family?
"Daddy, are you nervous? Why are you breathing so fast?"
"Ah... it's... nothing... Jae Hyun, let's go inside," he said and carried his son into the house. The balcony door was locked and all the curtains in the house were also drawn so that nobody could see them. Coming into the kitchen, Jae Hyun's father grabbed a knife which he never wanted to use. He did have to use it though.
A sudden crash sprang to Jae Hyun's ears as a man banged against the glass door. Pieces of glass were scattered across the living room's floor while the man seemed unharmed.
"This is Myeong Sang Chul's house, right?" the man started looking around.
Jae Hyun was flustered and nervous. Gritting his teeth, he stared at the man's malignant face.
"Hey kid," the man flatly said as he met Jae Hyun's gaze, "Where's your father?"
Jae Hyun remained silent and kept gasping.
"If an adult asks you something, you must answer!" he shouted at Jae Hyun. Pulling out a gun from his pocket, he aimed it at the child.
"Leave my son alone," Sang Chul yelled as he emerged from the kitchen and launched himself at the man. With a knife in his hand, he quickly made a cut along his opponent's left cheek.
But it was not easy to win against that man. He managed to grab Sang Chul's collar and threw him at the wall, leaving the crippled father lying on the ground and moaning in agony.
"Long time no see, Sang Chul," the man approached Sang Chul and kicked his stomach.
"Daddy," Jae Hyun cried and attempted to reach his father, but was thrown aside.
"Kids should stay out of this!" the man shouted and then went on beating up Sang Chul. Ignoring the kid whose back hit the table so hard that he could not get up again, he made a thunderous punch at the father's face, making his mouth and nose bleed badly.
"Why... do you have... to do this?" Sang Chul clutched his stomach and painfully heaved out the words.
"You're seriously asking?" the man scoffed, "You killed all my comrades!"
"I didn't... kill... you guys... I... spared your... lives..."
"Do you think that sparing our lives could save us," he shouted, "All of my comrades were humiliated and executed due to failing to protect the president! We didn't ask for your mercy, bastard. We didn't ask any of you to let us live."
As Sang Chul listened to the man's words, the flashbacks of that mission in North Korea ensnared his mind. Six years ago, it was that night in Pyongyang when he and his teammates, including his wife, were tasked to assassinate the president of the North. His mansion was guarded by more than fifty men, but barely ten South Korean special agents, who had special powers, could beat them. The president was shot right at the head and died. Coming back after the successful campaign, Sang Chul and his wife, as well as their teammates, were praised by the government. His family were even given an apartment in Seoul as a gift. But at the end of the day, what did those things mean to him and to his family? Was he wrong to choose to work as an agent and then get his family into this trouble? Why did he kill people? As those questions popped up in his head, a sense of guilt surged in him and tears started to trickle down his cheeks.
Those memories kept wandering in his head until a strange "bang" sound echoed in the room. His vision faded and all he saw suddenly turned into a black abyss. He was shot in the head. Meanwhile, Jae Hyun gaped at the unfolding scene in terror and tried to put the pain aside to crawl to his father.
"Daddy, wake up," he nudged his father's arm while sobbing.
The man flew away right after that, leaving Jae Hyun crying alone in the room. He was not shot, but the image of his father lying still on the ground with blood gushing out from his head struck harder than any bullet.

After Sang Chul's death, his wife Kang So Hyun quitted being an agent. Knowing that the North Korean people would also look for her, she left Seoul with her son, her everything. Carrying Jae Hyun on her back and lugging a suitcase, she headed to the train station amidst the piercing night.
From that on, Jae Hyun spent most of his lifetime in Daejeon, where his mother ran a small tonkatsu store. No longer having a high salary, So Hyun spent every penny she had on her son. She loved him really much.
But she never smiled at him or expressed any affection as she knew her son would fly if he got excited, and he could not control his power. If anybody found out about his flying ability, they both would be in big trouble. After all, they, at least, had a relatively peaceful life.
But their lives were messed up right when Jae Hyun was about to enter senior year. So Hyun was informed about two mysterious deaths of the special agents living in Daejeon, and she knew who did that. As a result, she and her son, again, moved to Namwon. Not wanting Jae Hyun to be in danger, she became even stricter and forced him to wear weights on his feet whenever he went out.
Jae Hyun had to transfer school right in his last school year, when he was preparing for the college entrance exams. Things were tough for him. But the school year did not even start yet and he knew that this was only the beginning of a journey that he never wanted to embark on.
