"Damn it," Yoon Ah mumbled and exhaled heavily. It was a terrible idea to sneakingly follow them just like the way she was doing right now. Would it have been easier to just ask them if she could come with them to Sung Ho's house? As those thoughts wandered in her head, she began to blame herself for making such a mindless decision.
"Hey, why are you following us?" Sung Ho peered at her.
'Yeah, why are you doing so? If you wanna join, you could have just told us," Ji Woo continued.
"Well... Sung Ho only asked you out so... wouldn't it be weird if I... go with you?"
"It's fine, we're friends after all," Ji Woo grumbled, "You're such a... never mind."
"But again, why do you have to follow us?" Sung Ho inquired.
"I... I like you..." Yoon Ah spurted out even before really thinking. Her decision to sneak after them was already a really thoughtless one. But the reason she came up for it was even more ridiculous.
"Huh? But you know I like Hae Won, right?" Sung Ho gaped at Yoon Ah.
"N... no... not you... I mean Ji Woo... I like... Ji Woo," Yoon Ah stammered and shut her eyes.
"But she's... a girl... and you're... a girl too, so how can you..." Sung Ho could not comprehend what was happening.
"Aigoo..." Ji Woo slapped Sung Ho's back.
"Aisssh... shibal..." Sung Ho grumbled in agony, "Why did you hit me? That hurts... Arrghhh!"
"What century are you living in right now? There's no problem with a girl liking another girl," Ji Woo retorted, "Yoon Ah, come with us! I'll talk to you later."
The three friends then went on to set forth and arrived at Sung Ho's house a few minutes later. His house was actually a small department store, located pretty near the entrance of its alley. There was a middle-aged man standing at the counter, seemingly writing something down in his notebook.
"Hi mister," Yoon Ah greeted him but the man did not respond. He was so focus on his work that he did not notice them coming.
Then Sung Ho approached him and knocked on his shoulder. The man turned his head back and sprang up his feet in joy, helping Sung Ho to take off his backpack. Sung Ho then used some hand gestures to communicate with him and brought the two girls into the house.
Ji Woo did not say anything, just gave him a smile and then bowed her head. Yoon Ah also did the same thing after her.
"My dad says that you guys can come inside now. Just wait for a while. He and I will make dinner," Sung Ho said, "Ji Woo, can you bring her upstairs?"
"Sure," Ji Woo said and grabbed Yoon Ah's wrist, "Let's go."
The two girls then walked upstairs, sitting down on the mat and turning on the television.
"Sung Ho's father can't hear so they use sign language to communicate. I know you'll ask," Ji Woo meekly smiled at Yoon Ah.
"Ah... I see," Yoon Ah nodded her head, "What about his mom? Where is she?"
"Sung Ho told me she passed away very long ago," Ji Woo sighed.
"That's so heartbreaking... I feel so bad for him."
"Yeah, me too."
"By the way, have you come here before? You seem familiar to this place, isn't it?"
"I have, many times before. My house is only a few steps from here so whenever my parents aren't home, I can just come here and have dinner with them. They always welcome me."
"That sounds nice... You must be really close to Sung Ho, right?"
"Uh-huh," Ji Woo nodded her head, "We're so close that Mr. Park even thought that I was his girlfriend, you know?"
"Really?" Yoon Ah inclined her head and gaped at Ji Woo in astonishment.
"And you know how he proved to his father that we weren't dating?" Ji Woo chuckled.
"Tell me," Yoon Ah said and stroked Ji Woo's hair.
"He texted me 'I love you' in front of Mr. Park."
"For real? And then how did you reply?"
"I asked him 'What? Have you gone crazy? Are you gonna die? Or are you joking?' and then he said no," Ji Woo laughed out loud.
"Hey, that's so mean," Yoon Ah scrunched her face, "You should have been nicer!"
"By the way, aren't you jealous?"
"Huh?"
"You said you liked me, remember?"
"Ah... About that... I'm not... you guys are more like siblings than boyfriend and girlfriend."
"I see," Ji Woo nodded her head, "Speaking of that, why do you like me?"
"Huh?"
"I asked you why you liked me," Ji Woo said and pinched Yoon Ah's cheek, "You've got five seconds to give me three reasons you like me. Five... Four... Three..."
"Hey, stop it!" Yoon Ah grumbled.
"Two..."
"I can't," Yoon Ah mumbled and closed her eyes.
"One! Time's up!" Ji Woo snapped her finger in front of Yoon Ah's face.
"You're smart. You're pretty. You're cute. That's why I like you," Yoon Ah forced out her response, speaking it quickly without any pauses.
"Why does it sound like a robot talking to me?" Ji Woo gave her friend a suspicious glare and inclined her head, "Give me one more."
"Ermm... your height... I guess..."
"But I'm 1.56m."
"I mean... I like short girls cuz they are... cute," Yoon Ah awkwardly stared at Ji Woo.
"Then what's my birthday?"
"How am I supposed to know?" Yoon Ah raised her voice in irritation.
"It's on my Instagram profile," Ji Woo wiggled her body and squatted her hands onto the ground like a child pestering for toys.
"I don't even use social media," Yoon Ah pouted, "But I know you're Aries, right?"
"Yep... at least you know my zodiac sign. It's good enough. Now do something to show that you like me!"
The request rendered Yoon Ah speechless. Never had she needed a time machine more than this moment. If only she had one, she would have travelled back time and stopped herself from blurting out such an undignified "confession."
Looking straight into Ji Woo's sparkling eyes, a strange feeling surged through Yoon Ah. For no obvious reason, she wanted to kiss those lips of Ji Woo. Holding the girl's chin, Yoon Ah turned her "girlfriend's" face and moved closer, bit by bit. However, her self-control was better than she thought and she moved her body back, further from Ji Woo, when their lips were just a pen tip from each other. After all, she was here to do her mission, neither to fall in love with anyone nor to make anyone fall in love with her.
"Wow! Your self-restraint is so impr..."
When Ji Woo could not even finish her sentence yet, a very high sound of glass shattering echoed from downstairs. Both of the girls rushed down and found out that Sung Ho had just broken a glass bowl when he tried to get the food out from the fridge. With a guilty face, he made some hand gestures, seemingly trying to apologise, ready to go get something to clean the mess.
However, his father stopped him and took a broom himself. He told his son to stay put while he swept the floor. But there was one more thing Yoon Ah noticed. While sweeping, Mr. Park lifted up the fridge to check if there was any debris underneath it, not with his right hand but his left hand. So Sung Ho's power was passed down by his father. There was no way that anybody could lift up the fridge filled with food just as easy as an empty carton box, but Sung Ho's father did.
"Did he just... lift up the fridge? Seriously?" she said under her breath.
During the dinner, Yoon Ah also noticed that Sung Ho and his father communicated a lot. She could not know what they were talking about but they must have enjoyed it a lot. Just the way they smiled at one another was already enough to tell how close they were.
Yoon Ah felt so good for Sung Ho to have such a nice father, but she felt bad for herself too. She had never experienced that kind of love for her whole life. Both her parents passed away way before she could even talk to them. As a result, she and her younger brother, Seol Yoon Ho, grew up as orphans, raised up by the government and trained to be an agent since childhood. For too long, she had forgotten how much she craved for parents' love. It was Sung Ho and his father the one who made that desire come to the surface again.
Becoming touched by Sung Ho's story, Yoon Ah chose to do a thing she was not supposed to. She made a false report as she knew that telling the higher-ups the truth would put Sung Ho's family in danger.
"Hey Mantis, it's Eagle speaking, have you found any information about Sung Ho's family yet?"
"Yeah, but there's nothing much. His father is just a deaf man, having no power at all, while his mother passed away very long ago."
"Oh... I see."
******
"Captain, this is Eagle," Colonel Ri called the operation supervisor.
"Yes, your captain speaking."
"Mantis, she deliberately made a false report today, regarding Park Sung Ho's background."
"Wow... that's interesting. So bugging her walkie-talkie was indeed a good idea. This girl... she's so much like her father."
"What should we do to her, captain?"
"Well... I'm not sure yet. But just spare her for now as she's still useful. After the operation, whether she survives or not... isn't our concern."
"Copy that!"
"Any more new findings today?"
"Park Sung Ho's father is a deaf man, but he has super strength. Sung Ho's power must have been passed down from his father."
"OK... good... anything else?"
"I also sneaked into the school office and have already got the students' files," Colonel Ri scanned through the documents he found, "Class 3.01's Myeong Jae Hyun is really Kang So Hyun's son while class 3.01's Oh Hae Won is Oh Ju Won's daughter."
"Oh Ju Won? The agent who had the ability to heal? The one involved in the assassination thirteen years ago?"
"Yes, captain."
"So, Oh Hae Won... is the healing girl in the video, right?"
"I can't confirm yet, but it's 99% true."
"Good... So we have Ju Won's daughter and So Hyun's son studying in the same school along with a boy who is super strong... What a perfect opportunity to launch a full-force attack on the school, don't you agree?"
