Thirteen
"Nice attempt to capture me," So Hyun smirked and tightened her grip on the gun, "But you won't."
Without any hesitation, she pulled the trigger and shot his shoulder, sending him sprawling on the ground. Cheetah then swiftly made an escape upstairs, whooshing past So Hyun like a wind and disappearing in less than a second.
Following her intuition, So Hyun ascended to the second floor to look for Cheetah. As she approached, the scent of blood and the sound of air vibrating hinted that he was nearby. "He must be somewhere close," she thought.
The school corridor was cloaked in darkness, with only dim light from the distant glowing street lamps. Emerging from the staircase, she surveyed the corridor, which most people would see as a black, blank space, and noticed a metal water dispenser. In order to keep herself concealed, she positioned herself behind a wall corner, from where she could see Cheetah's image reflected through the water tap. He was standing inside an open classroom, extremely vulnerable to attacks. She pulled the trigger, shooting the bullet at the water tap. The bullet then diverted and flew straight at his neck. He immediately collapsed onto the ground and blood gushed out from his neck like a river, spreading through the cold classroom floor. One more North Korean agent had been defeated.
No longer hindered by Cheetah, So Hyun continued making her way up to the rooftop to fight by her son's side. But Cheetah was not the only obstacle she had to face.
"Hey Kang So Hyun," Yoon Ah strode up from the ground floor, holding a gun in her hand and aiming it at her. She fired the gun, but missed.
That gave So Hyun the opportunity to retaliate by hurling herself at Yoon Ah, kneeing her stomach. The force was so fierce that Yoon Ah fell onto the ground at once, clutching her abdomen and grunting in pain. But the determination to avenge her brother's death superseded any pain she experienced. Compared to So Hyun, Yoon Ah was way younger and fitter so the spy from the North soon had a grab of Jae Hyun's mother, wrestled her down and pressed the gun against her forehead. Since So Hyun had accidentally dropped her gun after the fall, she instead chose to counter Yoon Ah with a headbutt at her chest. While the young girl was stunned by the impact, So Hyun kicked her arm, making her drop her gun too. She then summoned all the strength she had to toss Yoon Ah against the locker, knocking her out.
"Arghh," Yoon Ah heaved out painful moans as she fell onto the ground, trying to reach her walkie-talkie. However, So Hyun retrieved the gun and fired an accurate shot at her hand, completely numbing it. She then fired another shot, this time at her stomach.
"You seem young," So Hyun sighed as she placed the gun at Yoon Ah's forehead. Cold sweats began to envelop her hands while her fingers stiffened, struggling to pull the trigger. "Don't become an agent in your next life."
Knowing that there was nothing that could save her life any more, Yoon Ah tightly closed her eyes, surrendering herself to fate and hoping that she would reunite with Yoon Ho in heaven.
"Mrs. Kang," a female voice echoed along the corridor as a beam of light flashed at them, "Don't kill her, please!"
"Hae Won? Why are you here?" So Hyun gaped at Hae Won who was holding a flashlight in her hand, and then turned to Ji Woo, "And... the canteen girl too? Go home, it's dangerous!"
"Don't worry. I'll be fine," Hae Won softly chuckled and grabbed So Hyun's arm, "Jae Hyun's in danger. So please, Mrs. Kang, you gotta go and help him. Just leave everything here to us."
"Please, missus, don't kill Yoon Ah," Ji Woo pleaded, "She used to be my classmate so I'll handle her just fine."
The presence of Hae Won and Ji Woo reawakened So Hyun's humanist side. The fight had immersed her in a flame of hatred, like a devil taking over her mind. But fortunately, the two girls brought her angel back and she decided to leave for the rooftop, letting the two girls deal with Yoon Ah.
"Yoon Ah, are you OK?" Ji Woo rushed over and helped Yoon Ah up, embracing her tightly.
"Ji Woo-ah," Yoon Ah exhaled heavily and dropped her head onto Ji Woo's shoulder, "Stop being so nice to me."
"What are you saying? We're friends, isn't it?" Ji Woo held Yoon Ah's hands.
"Yeah, even when you're a spy, we cannot just leave you here," Hae Won said.
"I... I just... do not... deserve this..." Yoon Ah clutched her bloody belly and sobbed, "I've been... spying on... you guys."
"You're not a bad person. I know it so stop saying these things," Ji Woo reassured and hugged her even tighter.
"I... don't wanna... live anymore... I lost my brother... There's no longer... anybody... on my side..." Yoon Ah's voice started to weaken.
"You have me. Stop it!" Ji Woo tried to force out a smile and affectionately looked at Yoon Ah, but tears were streaming down her cheeks, "I love you and I'll always be on your side, OK?"
"I... I... love you too," Yoon Ah continued sobbing.
"Let's go. You gotta go to the hospital. You're losing a lot of blood," Hae Won said and kneeled down, signalling Ji Woo to put Yoon Ah on her back.
It was difficult for Hae Won to carry a girl taller and heavier than her so it took a while for them to get down to the ground floor and then head to the school entrance.
"Ji Woo, can you walk her to the hospital from here? I must stay to find my dad," Hae Won said as they approached the school entrance.
"Sure, hand her to me," Ji Woo extended her hands to catch Yoon Ah
"He hasn't... arrived yet..." Yoon Ah whispered into Hae Won's ears.
"Huh? Really?" Hae Won said with her eyes wide open.
Yoon Ah did not say anything, just nodded her head.
"OK then... I'll go with you. I gotta stop him before he comes here," Hae Won said.
But things did not go that easy. The entrance suddenly opened with a discordant creak and Ray stepped in, just in time to stop them from leaving the school.
"You all seriously think that I'll let you leave the school?" Ray leisurely walked towards them.
"Please, let us go!" Ji Woo kneeled down in front of the man to everyone's surprise, "My friend gotta go to the hospital. She's gonna die of blood loss if she stays here."
"You and the injured girl may go," the man looked at Ji Woo and then turned to Yoon Ah whose torso was covered in blood. He did not want his teammate to die, thus decided to let them leave for the hospital, "But Oh Hae Won... you're not going anywhere."
Ji Woo wanted to save Yoon Ah, but she did not want to leave Hae Won behind either. She was baffled and flustered, not knowing what to do. All she could do was to stare at Hae Won with her swollen eyes, tears welling up, in the hope that her friend might give her an answer.
"Just go!" Hae Won forced out a wry smile, "I'll be alright."
It was not until Yoon Ah and Ji Woo left that the confrontation began.
"Where's my father?" Hae Won clenched her fist, staring at Ray with her bloodshot eyes.
"Your father? He's gonna be here soon," he smirked and then gripped her neck, hovering her up high.
The pressure nearly suffocated Hae Won. As she wiggled her body, struggling to escape from Ray's grasp, an electric current flowed throughout her body. The impact was so powerful that her body was practically numbed. She felt as if every single tissue in her body was penetrated. Until a point that her muscles became as limp as a rag and there was hardly any significant resistance, Ray released her. She dropped, hitting her face against the concrete ground.
"Ah..." she grunted, scrambling her hands and feet as a vain attempt to get up again.
"Don't worry, this won't hurt," Ray flatly said and penetrated her neck with the paralyser, just like the one that Yoon Ah used on Sung Ho, making her body weaken even more. The chemical acted swiftly, making her dizzy. Her vision gradually became blurry and all the sounds around her also started to soften.
However, luck somehow did not elude her. Right at that seemingly hopeless moment, her father arrived at the school to rescue her.
"Stay away from her!" Ju Won yelled at Ray and then delivered a kick at his face, making him immediately fall onto the ground.
"D... dad?" Hae Won could barely hear her father's voice, although her senses were severely impaired.
"Mr. Oh," Ray scoffed and stood up, unaffected by the fall, "We've ben waiting for you all the time, you know?"
Ray clenched his fists and a stream of lighting ran along his arms. Incessantly punching Ju Won, Ray knocked him out by banging him against the ground. Ju Won also had healing ability, but he did feel pain too. Hence, it took time for him to recover from the forceful attack and Ray took the opportunity to shoot him.
"H... huh?" Hae Won strived to lift her upper body up and peered at the unfolding scene. Her vision was blurred as an effect of the dose. But from her perspective, it seemed that there was blood coming out from her father's head.
