North

I glanced down at the golden compass I held in my hand. It was covered in dust and seemed to fit in with the musky-smelling damp room many call an 'attic'. I, however, call it a hideaway. Light streamed through the small window on the other side of the room, creating a small circle of light on the old wooden floor of the attic. My eyes remained transfixed on the ruby-colored needle that pointed towards a fancy hand-painted jet black S on the bottom of the compass. I sigh. Just like my life, the compass was going South. Times were hard for me. My pay had gone down recently. Business at the diner has slowed down lately. I admired the golden chain that hung from the top,of the compass. Brushing my fingers against it, the cool metal eased my worries at its touch. Finally, I stood up. I couldn't spend all day in my hideaway. I placed the compass on the windowsill, the compass's glass reflecting the light from the sun. I walked over to a square floorboard and grabbed the metal handle attached to it. I opened the trapdoor and leapt down from the attic, landing on my feet with a thud.
I walked over to the mirror to glance at my reflection. My golden hair flowed in straight locks from my head, lighter-colored natural highlights peaking out from the golden strands. My blue eyes sparkled, and my pupils were dialated, like they were every day in the early morning. My soft, pale skin looked like porcelain in contrast to my excessively long hair. I grabbed my old brush and began brushing my hair as I slowly tamed the wild frizzy hairs that stuck out from the rest. Once I was done, I pulled my hair back into a simple French braid.
I walked over to my closet, pulling out my work uniform. I wore a baby-blue waitress dress with a thin white ribbon in the middle. I changed into it and pulled on the simple matching baby-blue slippers. I didn't bother putting on make-up. It was just a bother anyways. Stupid makeup. Making you want to itch your face off.
Stepping outside, I hear the familiar nicker of my horse Locket. She was a palomino with blue eyes. I saddled and bridled her so I could ride into town. I preferred to ride horseback rather than to use a car. The exhaust taints the environment anyways. Soon, I was riding into town with a steady trot. People stare every time I ride into town, though I've learned to ignore them. I just continued on my way to the cafe in my normal daily routine.
The familiar tingle of a bell rang into my ears, telling everyone in the cafe I had arrived. I looked around the cafe to see who I would be serving. The cafe was located in the small town of Sendsanburg. Because Sendsanburg was so small, everyone knew each other, so all the faces were familiar. That is... Until I saw him. He must've been new in town, because I have never seen him before. His hair was made of silk-like chocolate-colored curls, and his skin was tanned to perfection. His brown eyes held a gentle expression as he looked around the cafe. His hands were calloused, showing he was a hard worker. He wore an old leather jacket and jeans. On the top of his head black sunglasses watched from their perch. 'Damn, this guy better not be gay!' I thought to myself.
"Uh, excuse me, are you ok? You've been staring for a while now..." He said, snapping me out of my trampse.

A/N: how'd I do for the intro? Anyone like it? Any critiques? Don't worry, I'm not offended by critiques! After all, they help make your story better :D!
