Chapter 3

Duck is the wolf above (adult version).

PLEASE READ

Okay, I don't think I made this clear at all. Adder and his littermates are older than all the other pups, but it says in the laws that they have to pick the youngest pup. Before Oak, Sand, Fern, Blue, Thunder, and Storm were born is when they picked the pup to trade. So, after all of them were born, they decided to stick with it. And since its snow fall, they already had the snowfall trade with MoorPack. (Not with MountainPack because they weren't there yet)
Just wanted to make that clear. The story must go on!

Adder dug his claws in deeper. He could feel his heart beating, doubt rising, and claws sinking into the oak tree's strong bark.

"We're wolves, not squirrels." He muttered. Misty was right behind him, and Oak right above him. Storm had dared Misty to climb a tree, and she had insisted she didn't do it alone. Storm had picked out of the pups of which could go with her. It definitely wasn't my decision.

"So? This is fun!" Oak barked, leaping onto a low branch. "I think I might-" Misty began.

Adder turned around, faster than a snake, he reached for Misty's scruff. He managed to nip the fluffy fur of her neck, but nothing more, and his sister fell. Fear struck through him. No!

Like lightning, a flash of black fur appeared and grabbed Misty's scruff. It was Yowl. Adder and Oak dropped to the ground, trying to see if she was alright. Storm and Sand were already beside a shaking Misty. "Are you hurt?" A worried shriek barked hoarsely.

Frost and Stone had darted over. Adder looked at his sister. She seemed fine, but was still filled with horror. Yowl had sat her down, and he just sat too, unshaken. Yowl licked a paw. "I'm- I'm okay." Misty turned to Yowl. "Thanks to you." She murmured quietly. Yowl showed no emotions.

"It was nothing, really." He murmured, as though nothing happened.

Adder stared in disbelief. "Nothing? You just saved my sister's life!" He barked, muzzling his sister. "I couldn't have done it if she hadn't pointed to Misty," Yowl sounded confident, pointing with his tail over toward the cave. A small pup he knew as a nuisance curled her tail around her paws and was watching her paws anxiously.

"What do you mean?" Frost asked, a startled hint in her voice. "She pointed it out to me. I wouldn't have known, I was talking with Birch." Yowl pointed with his nose to his friend.

"Really?" Frost murmured. Most of the pack was gathered by now, worried and wondering about the gossip that had most likely already spread from there to MoorPack. Tree had came over, too, and was lurking in the back of the crowd of Yowl, Snow, Alpha, Stone, his mother, River, Willow, and Dawn. Speckle and Fox padded up side by side. "Is she alright?" Speckle murmured, trudging her way through to the center of the crowd, Fox in tow.

"Move out of my way!" Cave barked past Speckle, Dusk, Ash, and Star following him.

"Cave, be patient." Stone murmured slowly. The two long growls shared a long glance between turning away and focusing on Adder's sister. "Is she hurt?" This time it was Alpha Pine asking Fox. The orange he wolf was already sniffing at Misty. His sister was curled up, cold and shaking in the wet snow.

"She'll be fine, no need to worry." Fox mumbled quickly. Frost slowly nodded. The crowd had dispersed again, going back to their lives. Adder lay next to her to keep her warm. "I thought you were gonna be fox food," he sighed. "I thought so too." Misty murmured, glancing back at Yowl. Frost padded away and thanked Yowl. "No problem." He would say.

Cave went over to Frost. "She alright?" He said gruffly. His mother nodded. Frost kept glancing at Ember. Why does she keep looking at her? Yowl's the one that saved Misty, not that flea bag!

Stone trudged on over to his pups. "Misty, why don't you come in the den? Cave just brought back some food," then his father turned to Adder. "You too." The three started to scamper off back into the cave when Sotne whispered something into his ear. "Thank you for trying to help your sister. It means a lot."

Adder flushed with pride. He hadn't saved his sister, but he was brave enough to try. Who knows, if he hadn't noticed, maybe Yowl wouldn't have either. Or Ember. He growled. "She did nothing!" He cursed to himself.

Oak, Sand, Storm, Blue, Thunder, and Fern were inside, snuggled up to their mothers. Ember was inside the cave as well. She was eating a small piece of meat by herself. "She looks so sad." Snow came up behind him and he jumped. He forced his fur to lay flat again. He almost barked, too.

"Why don't you go eat with her?" Snow prodded him playfully. "Because. She's annoying." He muttered. Snow stifled a small chuckle. Her eyes sparkled. Adder wished he could daze into them forever, but decided that would be weird.

"Go on." She gave him a light shove. He grumbled on over to her and plopped down, spraying snow into her face. "Huh." He lightly laughed, but turned away. He lay his hapead in the snow, bored. "What are you doing?" She growled, picking up her food and backing away.

He sighed. See? She doesn't like me, I don't like her. She took Duck away from me. He faced Ember. "Trying to be nice." He grumbled. "Nice? You call sitting next to some wolf nice?  You're so-" Adder stormed off so he couldn't hear the rest of her wrath.

If she didn't like him, he didn't like her. He didn't like her anyways. She didn't like him anyways. Simple.

Merry Christmas, or some other holiday like Kwanzaa or Hanakkuh!
