Chapter 11
Song of the chapter: Peacock - Katy Perry
I got back to the city late on Sunday afternoon, arriving at Rae's loft just before six; Mitchell had to join his bandmates in Philadelphia for a two-night gig.
She was hosting their annual summer sleepover, a booze and grease filled night with confessions, secrets and straight up gossip.
"Hey, you're back. I was getting super worried," Rae greeted, answering the door in her underwear and one of Cam's tees.
Us two were as thick as thieves, especially when it came to claiming our property - basically our boyfriends' property. Same difference, no?
"Hi, Zoe. You're right on time. We were just about to call the pizza guy and I want you to flirt with him so that we don't pay," shouted Ty from the kitchen.
She was making one of her signature drinks, the most incredible nameless, and priceless cocktails ever created. "Help Min order dessert first."
"Yes, please. I wanna get everything but Ty has a thing on Tuesday with bathing suits and shit so she shouldn't look too flabby. Can't we just get you something different or you just don't eat what we'll eat? Because this menu is great. I want everything chocolaty," Min said, lying on on the white leather sofas in the living room.
She Looks So Perfect rang out from the club worthy sound system, Rae tuned into a radio station promoting our guys. The room smelt faintly of raspberries and vanilla, Rae's exclusive perfume which I adored so much, an unlikely relaxant.
I climbed out of my ripped skinny jeans and slipped into a pair of Rae's pyjama shorts strewn across the bed in the upstairs master bedroom and pulled on one of Mitchell's countless vests. I hope you won't miss this one, bud, I murmured. I was ready for the night after tossing my hair into a messy '80s ponytail with a neon pink scrunchie.
"Hi," I purred into the telephone, attempting my best saucy seductress voice. "I'd like to order a big thick steaming sausage pizza with extra pepperoni, chorizo and cheese to 79 Madison and Fifth. Oh, and hurry. We wouldn't want it to get all wet and flaccid now, would we?"
I hung up shyly and we all laughed at my audacity, tears quickly streaming down our faces. It was one of their many traditions, one which they passionately adhered to. That, and Min yelling "New York, turn up!" into the city signalled the beginning of a super fun night.
The pizza arrived eight minutes, four minutes earlier than it normally did. The frazzled pizza guy turned out to be one of the guys in my Art History class, Ian. He looked cute with his sandy brown hair, shiny from riding through the warm evening with a 'special' delivery. "Thanks so much, Ian. And keep the change."
"No prob. Loved the order by the way. The new dude was really turned on after it. I think you made his summer," he replied sarcastically, on his way out of the house. "Have a good night, and by all means enjoy."
I felt a little warm and fuzzy inside because of the compliment. Another good deed to the community, I grinned.
