Chapter 26
Song of the chapter: Come Get It Bae - Pharrell
"Morning, Mommy!" greeted Ellie, bouncing up and down in Mitchell's arms. "Daddy shaid you musht make us pancakes. I want pancakes, Mommy!" She did that incredibly adorable thing with her eyebrows that Mitchell did when he was asking for something. Like father, like daughter.
"She wants pancakes, Mommy," Mitchell echoed, planting a kiss on my forehead.
I took Ellie into my arms, kissing her rosy chubby cheeks and took in her lovely musky baby smell. "Morning, sunshine," I greeted back. Her big green eyes beamed at me as she flailed her fleshy arms before wrapping them around my neck.
"Let's go, Mommy."
I looked up at Mitchell, sound asleep next to me; his arms were still tight around my waist, holding me close to his body. I smiled at the beauty of the scene - I wanted to wake up next to him for the rest of my days.
I ran a finger down his pale cheek and he stirred.
"Baby."
"Morning, Crawford," I responded, sitting up in the bed.
"What time is it? Why are you up so early?"
"I'm hungry, aren't you? I didn't grab dinner yesterday. You kept me up all night, dude." At that he smiled, his eyes beaming up at me, a recent image.
"Oh, yeah. I thought you wouldn't wake up at all today. I guess I didn't do as good a job as I thought I had." I slapped his arm and he winced, ducking beneath the covers. Just then my phone rang, Rae's contact information popping up on the screen.
"Morning, Rae," I greeted.
"Good, you're up. I just wanted to tell you that I won't - wait, what's going on?"
Mitchell was kissing my stomach, his lips running up my naked body. I shrieked and attempted to stop him to no avail - I was beginning to tingle again.
"N-nothing. You were saying?" I stammered, extricating myself from his grasp.
"Oh my god! You're with Eoin, right? Aw, Zoe. I knew he was great. Was it good? No, don't answer that, we'll talk later. I'm so proud of myself," she exclaimed in one quick breath. Oh dear god!
"Rae, no. It's not that-"
"Hush. Later okay?" she interrupted, silencing me. "Just say I'm the most amazing friend in the whole universe." I repeated that with a roll of my eyes.
Mitchell's head poked out from below the sheets, his eyebrows raised in question. I shook my head, signalling that I would explain later and said goodbye to Rae.
"We'll grab a late lunch before our flight, okay? I'm going cycling with Cam. Have fun with the Irishman."
…
"So we met him at Starbucks yesterday and Rae basically threw him at me."
I was explaining to Mitchell, lying on my stomach on the bed. He was sitting up now, feeding me breakfast. I told him about our shopping excursion, how I was made a human doll by her and Lacey and Eoin asking me out.
"I really didn't know what to say. I feel so bad for the guy. He's so sweet and funny, Mitch."
"What about me?" he cried, his facial expression mimicking hurt. I pulled my tongue at him, carrying on with my story.
"Now she thinks I've slept with him. Thanks a lot by the way," I frowned.
"I can't help it, Zoe. You're so beautiful," he cooed, all pouty faced and handsome.
"You're not so bad either. Thanks for being far away yesterday though. Where were you, anyways?" I asked, munching on a blueberry muffin.
"I was checking you out from a distance like the pervert I am. You looked really good and I was picturing you naked," he confessed, winking at me.
I raised an eyebrow and slowly shook my head at him. At least you know Mitchell, I thought.
"I was asking around for ideas of things to do today. I want to take you out on a date." He smiled shyly at me, anxiously anticipating my response.
"Come here and ask me out nicely," I replied, standing up on the bed. He crawled up to me, kneeling down in front of me. His head was at my waist: he is that tall.
"Zoe, precious one, will you go out with me?" he pouted, his eyes pleading with mine as his arms enveloped around my waist.
"No!" I said defiantly, running into the opposite room. He shouted my name with a groan, chasing after me.
I skirted the coffee table and ducked behind the couch, dodging his arms reaching out to grab me. I jumped over it, turning to pull a face; I ran towards the big windows and hid behind the curtains.
"Zoe, get back here!" he whined.
"If you want me, come get me!"
I felt his hand tugging and pulling them open in an attempt to find me. The bright light spilling in blinded my eyes - I hit my head against the door handle leading into the bedroom and fell back in his arms.
"Oh god! Zoe! Are you okay? ZOE!"
