Chapter 31

Song of the chapter: Ew! - Jimmy Fallon and Will.I.Am

The next few days were the longest and most emotional for all of us, having been affected by Min's despondency; I was up quite early on Saturday after spending the night in bed with her again - she wasn't in bed beside me. The shower was running and a bunch of clothes had been laid out on the bed.

She stepped out after a few minutes, wrapped in large towel and her long hair wetting the shaggy carpet in the bedroom.

"Good, you're up," she said, sitting next to me. "We're going shopping today. You know we leave for Spain on Thursday and since I don't have anything to go with, I need to buy suitcases and clothes and all that jazz."

I looked at her, my eyes trying to figure out her state of mind. She smiled at me and scolded, "Don't just sit there! Get your butt into the shower and get ready fast. Rae's gonna meet us there and Ty will join us for lunch."

My Min was back after her emotions kicked her ass. And God knows how relieved I was. We left Ty's apartment after two hours, Min clad in my clothes which she'd been borrowing for the past week.

Even though her parents had made her choose between them and Lyle, they hadn't written her off financially - she could still buy the entire Madison Avenue and the stores the street housed.

We walked out of the boutiques with numerous shopping bags, stuffing them in a taxi cab we basically hired for the day. The driver, an Italian native named Giancarlo, was more than kind and gracious - he made Min laugh several times and approved of many of her purchases.

His sense of style was very admirable: he was wearing a blue striped buttondown with a pair of cream coloured chinos. If it wasn't for the silver wedding band on his ring finger, I'd have prompted Min to flirt with him.

Tyler suggested we meet at Luke's - Gi dropped us off and we thanked him for services rendered, paying him generously.

We waltzed into The Groove and Yellow showed us to our usual table at the back of the joint where Tyler was sat munching on an appetizing lunch. Seeing as we were an hour late due to the many stops at the many places we visited, I couldn't blame her for ordering food.

I sat down beside her, grabbed her fork and took a bite out of what looked like the most delectable tramezzini.

"Argh! This is so good!" I moaned, savouring the taste of the heavenly sandwich.

"Orgasmic, right? Most females, Ty included, are infatuated with Teddy's cooking and I don't blame them. He's a kickass chef," Luke weighed in, walking up to our table.

He stood above Tyler, kissing her forehead and massaging her bare shoulders. I noticed her cringe when he did that, her shoulders tensing and her hands starting to shake - that only happened when she was very uncomfortable.

I nodded my reply, keeping my gaze on Tyler. I silently prayed for Luke to make himself scarce so that I could help my friend who was literally shaking in her Bershka booties. Yellow appeared with an emergency Luke had to attend to - he excused himself, following her into the kitchen.

"He doesn't know, does he?" I asked her when he was out of earshot.

She shook her head, her bottom lip quivering and her hands now trembling on the table.

"Tyler Kinsley, please do not have a breakdown right now?" Min reached out and held her hands, pinning them on the table.

"Ty, honey, take a deep breath and relax. Relax yourself, babe. Everything's alright. Just relax and tell us what's wrong," Rae soothed, moving up the booth to flank her on her left.

She inhaled sharply and exhaled, shaking her head to regain control of her emotions.

"Okay. I spoke to Harry," she started. "We had a very long conversation and a lot of crying happened."

She looked around anxiously before carrying on: "He told me he still loves me but he respects Luke and I's relationship and me too much to jump in and replace Luke. He told me he'll wait for me and that the only thing he cares about is my happiness."

Tyler looked at me, her eyes searching for a comment. I wasn't surprised at this sudden revelation - I'd actually been waiting for this moment.

"Follow your heart, babe. I know you'll make the right decision and I'll support it no matter what." I smiled at her, pulling her in for a warm hug and I heard her say something like, "I can't believe I've turned into Min."

Rae laughed at that, playfully punching Min's arm while Min frowned at Tyler, mouthing a "Screw you!".

Soon after the conversation drifted to my rendezvous with Eoin, with Rae describing in great, and false, detail about our escapades.

"Oh my! Little Zoe has turned into a sex kitten under two weeks. I'm very impressed," Min said, flashing her naughty grin at me. I liked her better when she was crying, I thought, rolling my eyes at her.

"I'm pretty sure he dated my cousin," stated Ty, furrowing her brow in recollection. "He's the one with the really long hair and those amazing blue eyes, right?"

Rae nodded her head, continuing her storytelling. I held my face in my hands, refusing to see the various facial expressions popping up on my friends' faces. Gosh, this Eoin guy was turning out to be such a problem.

Without warning a shrill voice rang out above Rae's, immediately silencing everyone. The air around the table became very hostile and I swore I heard Min mutter multilingual profanity under her breath. Rae's palm was hovering above her knife, getting ready to stab the enemy interrupting our serenity.

"I think I dated him, too," Kira butted in, glaring at us. "Or maybe I didn't. I don't remember. He mustn't have been that memorable if I don't."

Silence.

"I guess that's why he's running around after somebody like you, Z. He clearly doesn't deserve to be remembered."

Min jumped up at that, her hands on her hips and her eyes plotting a painful, torturous plan of attack.

"The fact that you have to rack your nul brain to check if you transmitted more of your skank chlamydia to another unsuspecting male is grounds to assume Eoin doesn't even smell your putrid existence," she defended.

Kira's face cringed, Min's words wiping the superficial smile plastered on her shockingly gorgeous face. She took a step back, searching for a comeback when I interrupted.

"Just leave, Kira. Nobody likes you and you're wasting your time trying to hurt my feelings. How's about we have this petty fight another time?" I said with a genuine smile.

Kira stared back at me, her steely grey eyes failing dismally at intimidating me. She really doesn't know who she's messing with, I mused.

She walked away nursing her bruised ego, grabbing her bag from the table behind ours and left, her brown locks shimmying after her out the glass doors.

Her table was exactly behind ours.

Oh no.
