Bonus Chapter 1
Meera sat in the carriage holding her little bundle of joy wrapped tightly in a silken blanket. Her son had dozed off with his head on her lap.
The speed of the carriage slowed down before coming to a halt. Meera looked outside the tiny window carved in wooden carriage to see the familiar majestic tall walls of the Agra palace.
"Welcome to your home my love." Meera cooed looking down at her daughter who was peacefully sleeping.
The carriage began to move again, although very slowly entering the palace gates.
"Baby wake up." Meher said running her hand through Abeer's hair. "We are home meri jaan." She cooed.
"Maa some mole sweep." He murmured in his sleep.
"Beta, dadi jaan and Noor phupho are here, don't you want to meet them ?" She said trying to wake her son up.
The carriage had stopped now and she could hear the shuffling of feet. There was a knock on the carriage and the doors were then pulled open.
"Meera, are you ready my queen." Hadi asked as he stood outside waiting for them.
"I am but your son won't wake up." Meera complained.
"Let me take him." Haider said and picked his son up and pulled him out resting his body against his torso, his head resting on the crook of Haider's neck.
The wooden steps were laid down for Meera to comfortably de board. She carefully got down with her daughter in her hands.
The courtyard of the Mughal palace had been decorated wonderfully to welcome their little princess and their queen.
Meera once steady on the ground looked up to see all familiar faces waiting to welcome her home, it hit her with a heavy sense of nostalgia, almost three years ago she stood in the same spot, facing the same people welcoming her home.
*Flashback*
Meera held Abeer in her arms, as the carriage slowed down. She peeped out of the wooden window to see the closing gigantic walls of the palace, her heart pounded and her palms became sweaty. All she wanted to do was to turn the carriage around and never come back, yes she had forgiven everyone, she had but forgetting those horrible memories was something she couldn't do as much as she wanted to.
She pulling her son close to her chest, his presence comforting her a little.
"Gah gah gah gah gah." Abeer made small sounds as if comforting his mother. He looked at her and gave her a toothless grin.
"I know baby, I know I have you." She said as her eyes moistened, she bent down and kissed his forehead making him squeal in joy.
"I'm a Rajputana Princess, I can't run away. I didn't when I was suffering and I won't run away now either." She said giving herself a pep talk. She closed her eyes and drew in a large breath trying to calm herself down.
As the carriage came to a halt, Meera squeezed her eyes shut and made a quick prayer.
'Give me the strength you always have Shivji, let me carry myself with grace and dignity, everything else I leave on you.'
There was a knock on the door and they opened with a small creak. Amba stood there extending her hand for Meera to take to help her get down.
Amba a middle aged widow, had been appointed by her step mother who wasn't very happy by Meera's decision to go back to Agra. The loss of Rana Vikram Singh had brought Divyanshi closer to Meera and made her realise her mistake, her anger was towards her husband and his second wife not Meera.
"One minute." Meera said chewing on her bottom lip, she took a deep breath in and put her right foot out of the carriage getting down carefully clutching her baby boy against her chest.
As she steadied herself on the floor she looked up to see so many familiar faces, just faces.
"Meera." Ammi be said controlling her emotions and rushed towards them.
"Ammi jaan." Meera said giving her a soft smile and bent down carefully touching Inayat's feet.
"Stay blessed my child." Inayat stroked her head lovingly. "Please forgive me Meera." She cried joining her hands.
"Ammi jaan please." Meera pushed Inayat's folded hand aside and hugged her carefully, making sure not to squish her son. "Look I brought your grandson along." Meera said holding Abeer in a way to show Inayat his little face.
"He looks like Hadi." Ammi be laughed though her tears.
"I hope he doesn't turn out like him." Meera said and Inayat gave Meera a small sad smile.
"May I ?" Inayat asked extending her arms.
"Why would you ask ? He's yours as much as he's mine." Meera said placing Abeer gently in Inayat's hold.
"Mashallah !" She exclaimed, her eyes teared up. "Stay with him mere rabb, keep him in your grace." Inayat said praying and blowed her breath over him warding off all evil.
"Come Meera, everyone has been waiting for you." Inayat said turning her head towards where everyone stood with their eyes cast on the floor.
As they walked towards the small crowd, a very familiar figure pounced on her, wrapping her arms tightly around Meera.
"I've missed you so much Malika, next time take me along." Jamila cried against Meera's shoulder. "You even left that little little idiot, I hate her but I love her - why did she have to get married."
"Jamila calm down." Meera said rubbing her back. "Hania is happy and i promise you my brother is going to take good care of her, plus we can go to meet her whenever we want and call her anytime too." She said trying to coax Jamila.
"Hmm if you say do." Jamila said sniffing. "Is that.. is that our prince." Jamila said pointing towards the little bundle in Inayat's arms.
"Yes." Meera said with a broad smile. "Go meet him, till I see others." Meera said and ushered Jamila towards Inayat.
As Meera moved ahead she saw a few figures waiting for her.
"Glad to see you awake." Meera said with a smile looking at Avantika who was trying to hide behind Abhishek.
"Avantika." Abhishek said pulling her from behind him. "Go apologies. Don't hide."
"I...I can't." She muttered.
"Come here Avantika." Meera called out. She walked closer to the couple. And pulled Avantika from behind Abhishek holding her by her shoulder.
"You look good when you aren't fighting death." She said smiling at her. "I hope you have missed me because I sure have missed you." Meera said wrapping her arms around her.
Avantika hesitantly raised her arms to engulf Meera in a hug, the guilt of not trusting her, bad mouthing her and betraying her was killing her.
"I'm so sorry." Avantika cried as she clung on to Meera for her dear life. "I'm so sorry Meera didi, I'm so sorry." She sobbed. "I should have trusted you."
"But you didn't, it's in the past now, very insignificant just like your apology and my forgiveness." Meera said pulling from the hug and wiping her tears. "I'm happy that you are happy, looks like Bhaisa is taking good care of you." Meera said giving Abhishek a small smile.
Avantika nodded slightly still averting Meera's gaze.
"I'll... I'll go look if they have redone Meera didi's room." Avantika said her eyes fixated on the floor, turning around she quickly dashed out to escape the guilt.
Meera next noticed yet another familiar face standing close by, although the featured were familiar nothing seemed to resemble the Noor she had left behind. This female standing in front of her was lifeless, her once shiny skin and hair were dull and greasy, her eyes which radiated light were dead.
"Noor ?" Meera could head her voice crack. "Hey Bhagwan ! Ye kya ho Gaya Noor ?" (Oh God what has happened to you ?)
"Meera." Noor said giving her a small smile. "Oh my god Meera." Noor said wrapping her arms around her, sobbing into her shoulder.
"I've paid such a huge price for betraying your trust, for not believing you, for getting Zulekha into Hadi's life, for..for snatching away Tahir from her, he took my child away Meera, Allah tala took my baby from me." Noor wailed loudly, mourning the loss of her child, her family, for betraying her friend who had given up on so much to save her marriage.
Meera let Noor cry till her tears ran dry, she held Noor in her hand and tried to support the weight of her sister-in-law who had fallen unconscious.
"Let me." Haider said and scooped up Noor into his arms carrying her towards the harem.
"Rajkumari sa, I think you should rest now." Amba said standing behind her.
Meera nodded silently. She turned around to see Jamila holding Abeer making faces at him.
"Jamila chaley ?" Meera called loudly. Jamila turned towards Meera with a big smile and nodded enthusiastically.
Taking the familiar route towards the harem, every corner of the place associated with a memory, her heart beat painfully loud.
Everyone had gathered around the corridor and steps to see the queen they missed so much once again.
"I'm glad to be seeing you all again, I've back with your prince. Right now I need a little rest but I promise you we will celebrate this day someday soon." She said addressing the women of the harem and heard enthusiastic squeals.
Taking the last flight of steps towards her chamber her legs felt like lead. Could she do it ? Walking past the outer terrace where Shiv's one mistake had changed her life forever she felt her strength crumbling down.
"Are you alright Rajkumari Sa ?" Amba asked as Meera legs stopped.
"Yeh.. yeh I am." She replied. Taking a deep breath she pushed the curtains aside and walked in.
Everything was kept in the same way she had left, her bed, her dressing table, her trunks of clothes and jewellery she had left behind, they were exactly in the same spot she had left them.
Meera pushed the door of the balcony open and stepped out. Her eyes traveling towards the balcony opposite to hers, all the painful memories she had tried to repress had resurfaced.
Maybe it wasn't going to be so easy.
A loud sob escaped her lips, she clamped her palm on her mouth to stop the painful wail, her shoulders shook with her silent cry.
"I'm sorry." Haider said, his hand clamped on her shoulder. "I never meant to hurt you." He turned her around to face him.
"But you did. You didn't just hurt me Hadi, you broke me, destroyed me." Meera said wiping her wet cheeks. "You left me all alone, I had nothing, no one. You broke me Haider."
"Meera, you know I am sorry, you know I regret it, I hate myself for treatin-."
"At least you can hate yourself, I wish I could do that, hate you. And do you think your sorry matters to me ? It doesn't Hadi, I have forgiven you, how can I not, I love you too much to make you suffer in guilt. But I will never, never ever forget what you did to me, what this place has done to me." Meera cried. The pain felt fresh, like everything had happened just yesterday.
She walked around Haider to enter her room, Amba and Jamila stood there with Abeer in Jamila's arms.
"Please take my things to Ammi jaan's room and even Abeer's. Tell her I'll be housing with her for time being." Meera said.
"But Rajkumari sa how ca-."
"Amba, I think Malika needs to be left alone for some time, we'll discuss about this later." Jamila said and Meera gave her a thankful smile, Hania and Jamila truly knew her. "I'm taking Abeer along." She said and walked out of the room with Amba in tow.
"Meera, why are you staying with Ammi Be ? If you don't want to stay here stay with me, how will Abeer stay in that room with two other -."
"You want me to stay here ? This place haunts me, I was locked in like an animal, treated like one in this very room. And you want Abeer to stay here ? This very place where his father questioned his legitimacy? Called him a bastard even before he was born." Meera laughed through her tears sardonically.
"You want me to stay with you in that room, where you slept multiple women while I begged you helplessly to trust me, to not believe others, that place where you forced yourself on me, made me feel your pain and forgot about mine ? You want me to stay there ?"
"Me...Meera." Haider said pushing the lump formed in his throat. "I'm sorry, I know it's not enough but I'm so sorry my queen, I'm so sorry." Haider cried.
"I'm sorry too, I'm sorry for you Hadi, I thought it would be easy to get past the past, this place has opened up my wounds, I'm no more the old Meera, I've changed but, but I love you, I love you as much as I did before, but I also love myself now." She said cupping his cheeks in her hands. "It will take time Haider, it won't be easy either but we'll get past this, till that time I want you to respect my feelings."
"I'm never going to betray you again Meera. I promise. I love you." Haider said holding her hand and kissing the inside of her palm. "I love you."
"And I love you."
