Chapter 30
Akira watched cautiously as hunters appeared from all around. She was a little bit nervous to be in this kind of situation and found herself tightening her hold around Ann’s waist, even clenching the massive form between her thighs.
As if sensing her distress, Adam’s voice coaxed into her mind, ‘It’s alright, Akira. You don’t have to worry. I’ll protect you.’
“Like I need you to.” It took a great deal of strength to force those words out of her mouth. As much as she wanted to sound confident, her voice failed her seeing as it trembled slightly in the end.
A soft chuckle echoed inside her head and she glared down at the wolf she was riding on, seeing him flash a cocky . . . wolf grin—as much as a wolf could grin—while staring ahead looking wary of the enemy.
She didn’t get how he could smile somewhat cheerfully while looking menacing at the same time. It was weird . . . in some way.
She felt Ann tremble slightly under her, so she began to comfort her by whispering reassurances in her ear. Although she hated to admit it, she had confidence about Adam protecting them.
‘You shouldn’t think otherwise.’ He told her through their telepathic communication, making her roll her eyes.
He was always invading the space of her thoughts that it already started to get old. She couldn’t even get angry anymore—although it did piss her off to some extent.
“Can you just shut up and focus, you damn mutt?” She growled at him.
‘You do know that there’s a big possibility I won’t get out of this alive, do you? As much as I hate to admit it, this place is practically reeking of hunters and I don’t think we could stand up against them that easily judging with our current numbers. I want to tease you as much as I can—while I can, of course.’
“Don’t you even dare say those things, bastard. You’ll get our asses out of here and I’ll personally kick your butt right afterward—so make sure I don’t kick a corpse. I want you all alive and well. You could use some pain once in a while.”
He sighed and his wolf’s head dropped slightly. ‘How about a kiss?’
“The heck are you talking about. There’ll be no kisses.”
‘How about a peck?’
“Like damn hell I would.”
Ann looked slightly confused since she was only hearing one side of the conversation, but it did not matter to her much since she knew about the way of communication Adam was using. He was, after all, in his wolf form. He wouldn’t be able to communicate verbally—except howl and bark.
‘Come on. Give me one reassurance. At least I have something to live for. Unless, of course, you want me to die.’
“Damn you, Alpha Jerk. Fine.”
‘Whoo, yeah!’ He hooted. ‘Ya hunters are goin’ dooown!’ He said with a slight determined accent.
Akira couldn’t help but smile. “You damn old fool.”
‘Promise me you’ll allow me to take you out on a date. No. How about engagement?’
“You’re asking for far too much, bastard. Know your place.”
‘Ouch . . . that hurts, Akira! Give this guy a break! Fine. Just one date? I never got to have a real date with you. After that, let’s end it with a passionate kiss!’
Akira’s face reddened. “Shut up and focus, mutt. I’ll give you my answer after we get out of here.”
‘Does that mean it’s a yes?’
She went even redder. “L-like I said, after okay?”
Adam didn’t answer after that, be he . . . looked sort of happy to Akira. Just like a child.
But then, of course, since they were in some crazy situation, Adam got all serious all of a sudden as if he wasn’t joking around a while ago at all. Akira was amazed by how much he could change in such a short while, but remained quiet as well. She wanted to fight as well, but she knew she couldn’t do much in this situation. She probably would only get in everyone’s way. She never wanted to admit it, but she never felt helpless before.
In this battle between hunters and werewolves, Akira could only do much. She could neither shift into a wolf—but she could hold guns and fight for herself if the need ever arises. But she didn’t have a gun! Where was she supposed to get one?
Michael did train her how to hold a gun. She’s been target-shooting since she was young and she was proud to admit that it was also one of the things she was good at—aside from being a black belt of course.
“Miss Akira,” a cheery voice said.
The girl turned to see Logan holding a pistol in one hand. He was holding it out to her, urging her to take it. Did this guy just read her freaking mind?
“Your mother said this might be of help. Protect yourself, this girl, and your mate. And here, a few more load of bullets in case you ever need to reload the gun.”
“Gee, thanks. Give my badass mother one hell of a kiss.”
“Unfortunately, miss. You’ll have to do that yourself. I already have a mate and pups.”
“A-alright. Sorry.” It felt awkward having to say something like that, but Logan didn’t look bothered by it one bit.
‘We just need to hold out until the reinforcements arrive.’
“I see.” She whispered, before loading the bullets into place.
Logan shifted into his wolf form. His fur was sterling grey with a few spots of white on some places.
‘I’ll have to ask you to watch my back, Akira. Werewolves cannot fight unless within their striking range, and hunters have a whole damn lot of advantage. I can only do much.’
“Sure.”
She didn’t realize it before, but . . . she never actually had to use her skills like this. Was she really prepared to kill someone? She shakily looked down at the gun.
‘Akira, can you let me smell the bullets for a moment?’
Although hesitating, she did what Adam asked and allowed him to catch a few sniffs of the bullets Logan gave her.
‘It’ll be alright. I think what Logan gave you was just a tranquilizer. It’ll give them a knockout for a few days.”
“But this looks like a real bullet.”
‘Don’t worry about it. It’s actually not that harmful. It’ll pierce the skin but not burry itself deep enough to actually kill. It just has to look threatening. It’s one of the things hunters use. I think it’s a suitable weapon of choice for you.’
“You’re right . . . the bullet is somewhat . . . soft I think. Not actually that hard.”
‘Careful not to touch it much. It might knock you out good.’
“I’m careful.”
‘Now get ready, Akira.’
The whole area was silent after that warning shot earlier. The hunters remained somewhat dormant. They came out of the trees a little while after and that was when Logan handed Akira the gun. They all had threatening looks in their faces and the girl didn’t find it to her liking.
They weren’t moving much, just staring at each other. The hunters glared at the werewolves as if they were some prey, and the werewolves did just the same. The gravity of their killing intent was really threatening. The tension was cracking like electricity in the air.
Without a warning, one hunter fired a shot towards some wolf and it was easily dodged. Seeing as they made the first move, the werewolves did just the same. With a menacing growl, they all leaped forward and targeted each of their own prey.
Akira looked away as she caught sight of a wolf tearing out the throat of one hunter in particular, making the blood gush out from the wound.
She wanted to vomit. The battlefield was obviously not a place for her.
Adam took the beginning as a sign and dashed ahead of him. He looked like he wasn’t thinking of holding back and ran forward fearlessly. A bullet was shot their way, but thanks to his great reflexes, he managed to dodge it with ease. He leaped forward and opened his jaws wide before snapping them around the wrist of the perpetrator and tossing him against a tree.
Ann shrieked. “Oh my god!”
There were two more hunters which stood side by side with the man from earlier, but they reacted a little bit too late seeing as Adam managed to grab one of their limbs and do just the same to them as he did to the man a little while ago. The only different was that one man in particular was thrown farther than the rest and some other wolf caught him like a chew toy.
Akira cringed. She knew that Adam was trying to spill blood seeing as she was with him. The girl had yet to handle violence to this degree.
She did punch someone and almost managed to beat them to them—made them bleed through the mouth and nose—but seeing all this . . . was just grotesque. She personally had a view what the body looked like on the inside, and hell it wasn’t some pleasant sight.
Some hunters came into view and cocked their guns at their directions. Akira was fast reacting, however, and she fired a bullet their way before they could even react. Ann cowered from the sound of gun being used right beside her and instinctively covered her ears.
The hunters fell over, their eyes dropping close. Akira could almost see Adam smile under her.
‘We make a good pair, don’t we, love? You and me. Unstoppable.’
“For once, I think I agree.”

Sorry for the long update this time. As some of you may know, I had a few technical difficulties I had to fix, so I wasn’t able to update. I got it fixed as soon as possible though and got to writing immediately afterwards. I hope you enjoyed this chapter! :DD
