26 Derecho
Derecho deluge drumming on the roof
Lightning illuminates every corner in my room
The walls shake
Thunder, well there is no word
I cringe in my bed, blankets over my head
The storms parade though the valley
Like pots banging in a storm tossed galley
Tornado sirens sound again
Only moments since I came up to breathe
I'll have to hunker down, shelter in the lowest place
Five times now, the repetition dulls
My senses numb, not sure I'm alive
The house still stands, ceilings drip
Broken windows, puddles weep
God please stop nature's tantrum
The sunrise peeps through shredded drapes
Wet covers me, shivers bone deep
The mountains glow golden rose
A rainbow glistens, God's sweet promise
Pick up the pieces, you will survive
