Chapter 3
Leafstar pricked her ears listening for any sign of prey. Leafstar was always bad at hunting but luck came to her this time. She had caught a scrawny mouse and nothing more. It wasn't much but it was prey. Leafstar headed back to camp since the sun was setting. She dug up the mouse before entering the camp.
The camp looked dull and brown because of the loss of leaves. Her clan-mates were wide-eyed and still as they watched Leafstar stroll into camp with her pathetic piece of prey. Palmstripe gave her a worried look as the otherss started to crowd around her.
"What?"Leafstar meowed,her whiskers quivering.
"Well, you were out hunting. Were's Sprucepaw?"Palmstripe asked for the cats who were anxiously waiting.
"I never saw him, why?"Leafstar started to worry herself. Leafstar didn't have to hear from her clan-mates. Sandwing,Gatorfang, and Sprucepaw Stormed into the camp.
Sandwing's amber eyes were blazing with fury. His nostrils flared as he stomped up to Leafstar.
"This apprentice,"Sandwing growled nodding towards Sprucepaw."Needs to learn a lesson."
"What kind of a lesson? You're his mentor which means you get to teach him."Leafstar answered coldly. Things didn't work out between Sandwing and Leafstar ever since their son,Barkkit, died. Leafstar didn't know why or how it happened,it just did.
"A lesson a Leader has a right to give,Punishment! He was reluctant when a warrior told him to hunt, and when he did,he took all day to come back."Sandwing snarled. His sandy fur was fluffed up in anger.
"Not my fault he hates you,see what happens when you get mad?Look at yourself!"Leafstar yowled splashing her paw in a puddle.
Water splashed sandwing's fur as he looked at the puddle. His face loosened up and his shoulders slumped when the water cleared.
"I've made a fool of myself..."Sandwing muttered turning and pushing his way through the still-shocked,silent crowd.Whispers passed through the small group of cats as he lurked into the warriors den. Leafstar thought for a moment before following Sandwing. She squeezed through the den and laid down next to Sandwing. Her eyes met his sad gaze for a moment before he looked away.
"What happened between us?"She Whispered, her yellow eyes glazing.
"I don't know...Maybe you were met for Stonestar and not me..."Sandwing turned away from her.
"What do you you mean?"Leafstar choked with sadness.
"I heard about you and Stonestar in the Mooncave, apparently he's better than me.Whatever,he probably makes you more happy than I ever would..."Sandwing sighed closing his sad amber eyes.
"No,Sandwing.I love you."Leafstar breathed into his fur.
"I love you too Leafstar."Sandwing purred. His warmth surrounded her as he curled up with her .Leafstar closed her eyes feeling safe and secure with Sandwing.
"I'm sorry Sandwing." Leafstar wailed.Sadness filled her body making her choke.
"It's okay.I'm sorry too..."Sandwing whispered in her ear.

A full moon peaked out from behind the Smoky clouds as Leafstar lead her clan out of Leafclan territory. Palmstripe Walked gracefully beside her,and Rosethorn and Softsong followed Palmstripe. Sandwing padded at her tail quietly. Leafstar left Spicepaw and Sprucepaw with the great duty of taking care of her kits so Rosethorn could come to the gathering.
Dark figures moved in the horizon a far way off.Silver moonlight dimly lit their path to the gathering place where all clans would meet. They caught up with the dark figures in little time and realized it was Darkclan on their way to the Gathering. Darkstar fell in step with leafstar and nodded to her.
"Greetings Leafstar. How is Leafclan now days?"Darkstar meowed coldly not taking his eyes off the path ahead.
"Fine, fine. We seem to be getting along just fine"Leafstar replied stiffly. She could never get over the fact that Darkstar was Nightwhisper's father. She had asked Nightwhisper about it and he confessed that he knew Darkstar was his father. She asked Nightwhisper if he wanted to join darkclan but he refused.
The cats were silent except for old friends who were chattering quietly in the back of the group. Stoneclan Joined them just before they pushed their way into the soft marsh.Cats gathered around meeting and splitting into different groups. Leafstar sighed as she padded off alone. She Sat in the far side of the misty, marsh clearing. The trees whispered above her, waving their leafless branches. The branches made a soft clicking sound as they were battered in the wind.
The mist seemed to clear as a white cat approached her.She reccognized the tall figure of Snowstorm, his Piercing yellow eyes glowed from the rising mist. Stormfeather and Sorrelsong padded behind him.
Sorrelsong was a new warrior of Stoneclan. She was a fierce,Loyal warrior of Stoneclan. Her name was Sydney before she joined,a rouge from a farm. She was a whitish-silver She-cat with gray and black speckles, and sharp Amber eyes.
"What are you doing here all alone?"Sorrelsong meowed Sweetly. Sorrelsong could be rough at times but she brought the sweet side of Stoneclan along with her.
"Oh,you know...Just enjoying the view."Leafstar joked. The cats purred with Laughter, even tough old Stormfeather.
Stonestar let out a loud call.
"Time for the gathering to start, better get up there." Snowstorm yowled. For a moment Leafstar wished she could be a warrior instead of Leader so she could be with her friends. But she shook her damp white pelt and leaped on the moss covered rock.
The moss made it a bit difficult for her to grip on the rock but Stonestar steadied her until she regained her balance. Leafstar cast a nervous glace at Sandwing but he didn't notice.
"I didn't need help."Leafstar protested through gritted teeth.
"Sorry..."Stonestar muttered looking away.
"Darkclan is blessed with two new apprentices Willowpaw and Spiderpaw.Their mentors are Airheart and Berryspots." Darksar meowed.
The two apprentices looked too old to be new apprentices.they looked more like warriors.
"And two new cats joined the clan. Moonshadow and Nightblaze."Darkstar meowed.
suddenly a rustle sounded from the back of the rock then the whole clearing was surrounded by strange cats.
"I'm not missing the Gathering am I? Oh,What a shame..."A loud voice boomed through the clearing echoing and leaving a eerie silence. A white She-cat Gracefully leaped on the rock and pushed past Darkstar almost knocking him off.her almost-white eyes pierced into Leafstar's soul.Oh no...Frost!
