Chapter 5
"When will your mid-terms start, sweets?"
"On 28th, mom"
"Great. Now did you make any friends there?"
"Oh yeah, I did. Um...there's one called Alex and then there's Jake and yeah, I'm progressing."
"Oh, I'm so proud of you Daisy. Now Mama's gotta go, okay? I'll call you later. Take care. Bye."
"Bye"
I hung up the phone. That was my mom being all sweet and good. And speaking of Alex and Jake, I was now quite comfortable with them being around. We used to study together, hang out and yeah, they were nice, not like what I thought they'd be.
After the conversation with mom, I went to the library to read the latest novel by Dan Brown called 'Origin'. Since I read 'Digital Fortress', I became a huge fan of Mr. Brown, the most brilliant writer I've ever read the works of. I'm always surprised at his talent of writing such a spellbinding, ingenious story of which always, at the end you'll be so taken aback by the climax that you would just sit there with the last page of the book wide open, staring at the wall, thinking how in world that thing could happen! And that's exactly what seized my attention to his books.
I walked over to the 'mystery' section and looked for Origin.
"Hey." I heard a guy's voice just behind me. I turned around to see a rather familiar person smiling at me. It was the same Asian boy who smiled at me the first day. He was a brown-skinned tall guy with bushy eyebrows, dark black eyes, a slightly crooked nose and a perfectly round face.
"Hey." I said.
"Daisy, right? This is Athar." He said with an Indian accent.
"Hello Athar. Um... how are you?"
"I'm great. And you?"
"Good."
"So, what are you looking for?"
"Origin. By Dan Brown."
"Oh, I've read it. It's brilliant, really. The ending is ultra-amazing!"
"Thank goodness I found someone here who reads!" I said honestly.
"Ah, the feeling is mutual, Daisy!" he chuckled.
"Hey Athar! Mr. Falvey is calling you. He is in the computer lab." Said a girl in a croaky voice and a slight Spanish accent, standing near the adjacent bookshelf with 'Wuthering Heights' in her hand. As she walked over to us, I noticed she had long brunette hair a very eccentric gait.
"Oh, okay. See you later, Daisy!" said Athar as he left.
"Hola! I'm Gabrielle Diaz. You are the new girl, right?" she asked as we shook our hands.
"Yeah I'm Daisy Jordan. Nice to meet you."
"Wait. You know what? You are new and I am the archaic one who knows every possible thing about The Blue Valley High School. So let's ditch these books and I'll introduce you, from a distance, to the celebs and the scholars of our school. Come it'll be fun!"
I wanted to say no but her excitement caused a little excitement in me too. And what could possibly go wrong? At least, I could befriend her.
Soon, I was walking through the corridors with a hysterically chattering Gabrielle by my side. She points out a handsome blonde guy standing among a group of chortling punks.
"That, my dear Daisy, is Blue Valley's most popular guy Trevor Butz. But like any other clichéd popular guys he is a billionaire's son who happens to be a complete jerk and of course, he probably has tons of girlfriends by his side. So what do we learn from that? Stay away from that man. Period"
Before I could comment on him, he put whole of his mouth into the petite girl standing right beside him. Apparently, they were kissing. "Eww" was all that came from my mouth. We strolled further and saw Alex and Jake chatting near the locker.
"That is Jacob McAdams and Alex Wilde, the unscholarly but good guys of our school." Gabrielle said.
"Yeah, I know them. Because of Mr. Smith..."
"Oh yeah! You're tutoring them, aren't you? And listen, stay away from Jacob. He is mine. I mean, not that he is aware of it but I'm crushing on him since long so..."
"Oh no, don't worry. He is just a good friend that's it." I said sheepishly.
