I never thought this would happen to me. I just wanted a normal life. But unfortunately, it didn't end that way.

I was a freshman in high school, happy to be alive and well. I had amazing friends, teachers, and a family that had always loved me.

I sighed as I walked in, the first day back. I smiled as I recognized my friend, Ryuto Hanoka, waved at me.

"Hey, (y/n)!" He grinned, his smile beaming. I don't know why, but he makes me so happy when I look at him, talk to him, and think about him.

"Hey, what am I? A potato?" My other friend, Ayumi Aishi, laughed, running up to us. She was followed by a boy I did not recognize...
He had dark brown hair, with piercing yellow eyes that seemed to stare right into my soul.

"Who's that?" Ryuto asked, peering at him.

"This is Saito Ryu." Ayumi replied, smiling. "He's new here."

"Hello... Everyone... It's.... Nice to meet you.." He murmured softly, smiling. He looked at me, and I noticed his face turn red.

"Ayumi," he softly whispered. "You didn't tell me that I would be meeting a beautiful girl."

I felt my face flush bright red, and I muttered, "It's nice to meet you, Saito."

"N-nice to meet you to!" He stuttered. "I have to be somewhere right now! B-bye!"
