Day 23
We made it to the top.
We stood, light headed at the peak.
I felt swayed, as if the world was tipping. As if we climbed so high, space could pick me off, pulling me away from earth's gravity.
Two brown hands clasped my shoulders, tugging me in.
"Woah, Uniqua!" Mid widened his eyes. "You nearly fell off!"
Maybe it was the altitude or the lack of oxygen. But I felt giddy, my head spinning.
A long cord like apendix wrapped itself around me, keeping me anchored.
I found Vespi beside her, holding me close, wolfish face revealing segments of worry.
"Im fine... just... low on air.." I pant.
Mid gives me a concerned look before staring out, for the exit.
"I see it!" He cries, staring into the distance.
"What is it?"
"The next part is... an ocean." Mid explains. "I see an island over there. That has to be the end of the book."
Then softly, he added. "For now."
"Then we need to hurry." I say.
I try to look down and immediately regret it.
My gut twists at the surging heights.
"Auhuhuh..." I groan, feeling sick.
"Uniqua? Are you okay?" Mid falls beside me, hand on my arm.
"Cant..." I mumble, dark spots dancing across my vision.
"We have to get you down. Vespi," Mid faces the Bat Wolf. "Could you?"
I feel myself being guided onto the familiar prickly back of Vespi.
The Vespurtus barked, unfolding his green wings.
"Vespi, get her to the shore, I'll meet you there." Mid said to the beast, starting his descend.
My fingers dug into Vespi's thick fur for a griphold, securing myself.
Vespi lunged, leaping into thin air before catching the wind, riding it down from the mountain.
As we soared downward, my breath came easier. My eyes no longer seemed like tinted glass.
My senses came back to me like air being slapped into my face by air resistance.
I felt the thrill of the flight flood through me. I felt a smile appearing on my face as we flew.
Knowing our adventure would soon end.
