Chapter 9: Tragic
Mira dashed over to where Fontana lay on the ground.
"N-no, Fontana," Ethan whispered, nudging her.
Clair crept up. "It's okay!" she squeaked. "She just sleeping. One of those Trainers hit her with a round ball, but she said everything would be fine!"
Ethan's look of horror turned to fury. "I will- I'll- i'll KILL those- those things!" he roared.
"No need" a tiny voice said. It was Fontana. "It's not their fault... I love you."
"Don't leave us, Fontana," Blair pleaded. But Fontana's eyes turned glassy and dull before she could speak. Blair just stood there, jaw dropping in shock. Fontana would never swim again...
"Why is everyone so sad?" Clair asked. Mira sighed, feeling sorry for her. "She's gone. " she murmured.
"But she's not! She's standing right there in front of us!" Clair cried.
Ethan turned to her, his face a stone. "Listen, Clair. She's there, but she's dead. She'll never talk to you, or have fun with you, or cuddle with you when you can't go to sleep. She will never teach you to swim or be with you when you evolve. She left us." he spat bitterly.
Tears sprung at poor Clair's eyes as she ran off, and Mira caught Blair running after her into the nursery. "Why did you have to be so harsh?" Irene's scold dragged Mira back.
"Clair has to deal with it!" Ethan shot back.
"Oh, Clair's the one who's having trouble dealing with it?"
Mira walked away from the arguing pair into the nursery. She found Blair finishing the curse story to Clair. "That's why I'm not an Vaporeon or a Leafeon or an Espeon. I'm just an Eevee." she said.
Clair's eyes shone with excitement. "I'll be just like you! I'll never evolve!" she squealed.
Mira walked in. "Are you telling that story AGAIN?!?!" she fake-groaned, and they all laughed. Especially Fontana above them.
THE END.
