Rules
In order to make this sustainable for me, and beneficial for you, I must lay some ground rules. This is so that we both benefit from the situation and that you get exactly what you need and that I am not pressured or stressed by the project. These rules are subject to change and I
1. The work is in a format where I can leave in-line comments. This can mean published on Wattpad or sent via email in a Word document or Google Doc.
2. I have the right to take on or deny projects at my own discretion. I will also only take on so many projects at a time. While I don't believe I will have people lining up, if it becomes an issue, I will queue up accepted projects in the order in which they were accepted.
3. We must work out the agreement (if you want me to read a whole work, or partial, etc.) and what I get in return before beginning the project
4. Payment should reflect the amount of work I put in. Therefore, if I read a 100,000 word novel length piece, I expect something more than if I read a 2,000 word one shot.
5. You must genuinely be looking for constructive criticism and to improve your work/ writing. I am not mean, but I will not say purely good things (although I will definitely say what I like and what is working well). If you cannot accept criticism (this does mean that you have to take my advice), please do not apply. For examples of my feedback, you can go check Yoongoongi's book where it mentions her betas. You can see examples of the kind of feedback I leave.
6. Understand that unless I am doing a short piece, I am slow. I typically only work on beta reading once a week for an hour or two (sometimes more if I'm really feeling it). However, this allows me to give better feedback. If I'm rushed, I will give less and less thoughtful feedback. I will work to finish each project as quickly as I can.
7. I will add your work to a reading list, but I will otherwise not promote it unless I do it of my own accord. Please do not ask me to promote your story.
8. Be nice
That being said, even after I finish beta reading your work, always feel free to reach out with questions. I am more than happy to workshop with you and help you develop your story :). Also, if you have any questions about the rules, feel free to send me a PM.
