On the streets
Living on the streets wasn't exactly easy and I was starting to regret my impulse decision but there was no turning back now. I walked for most of the day everyday just so that I could get as far away as possible although I didn't really know where I was going or even if I was any further away from the house.
I ate what I could from cafe bins where everything was wrapped and most of the time the stuff on top had only gone out of date that day. I had also been scamming, the burger scam saved me most nights to get a proper meal. I had been on the streets for about a week now, I washed in public bathroom sinks and crouched down under underpasses and bridges when the nights eventually came around. I was getting fed up but it was either this or prison so I guess this is my life now.
I was walking as I saw a police car coming down the street, there was a group of joggers just ahead of me that I could blend in with, for all I knew the police wouldn't know anything about me but I thought it was better to be on the safe side.
I started to jog alongside them but it quickly became apparent that not only did the police know I was there but that they were following us as we turned down different roads. I suspected that they were following me. I started to run faster until I was no longer with the joggers but was on my own with this police car following me.
"Teagen stop." I heard a voice call.
Shit. Not only were they following me. They knew my name. I started to speed up, the adrenline running through my body I ran as fast as I could possibly go but ultimately a car was always going to be faster than me. I finally came to a stop when I tripped on a loose paving stone.
"Teagen, just let me help you." The policeman said. I looked up to see the one person I couldn't stand right now. Well apart from the obvious.
"No!" I said firmly getting up and trying to run again but my ankle was in agony and I was able to get anywhere.
"Teagen you have probably sprained it, maybe even fractured it. Let me help you and then I promise you never have to see me again." Jack told me.
"Oh so you can cart me off to prision and abandon me again. i'm alright thanks." I replied sharply before hobbling away.
I only managed a few steps before collapsing to the floor in a heap. Jack helped me up and sat me down on a near by bench. I didn't want his help but it wasn't exactly like I was going anywhere.
"Look, I know you hate me but I can't leave you here like this. That ankle needs looking at and that tag hasn't been working for a week. I read your file, if that really happened then they'll take the tag off and I'm sure you will be free to go home." Jack tells me.
"You don't believe me either." I say letting the tears flow down my cheeks I couldn't be strong anymore.
"I didn't mean that. I meant if you wanted to tell them." He says pulling me in for a hug but I get scared and my reflex is to push him away a little to hard.
"Sorry." I mumble.
"Your scared, I get it. You have been hurt before. Let's get you looked over then we can sort things out." Jack replies.
"ok." I say giving in even though I was scared to death of what was going to happen next.
"I promise you this you will not be going to prison. I am going to make sure of it, I am going to need to call Mike to be your appropriate adult though." He tells me.
"You can't. This is all my fault and he hates me." I tell him. A small smirk forms on his face which makes me angry.
"What?!" I questioned.
"He said exactly the same thing." Jack replied and he gave me a confused look. "I went to see him when you first went missing. He said it was all his fault and now you hated him because he was stupid and he didn't believe you." Jack explains.
