Chapter Five
"You guys go ahead," Jin said, watching the heavy rain slashing through the air fiercely. A bright white light cracked through the dark sky followed by a loud rumble of thunder.
"You're not coming with us?" Taehyung asked, turning to look at him. Every Thursday they stayed back after school and worked out in the school gym for 2 hours, after which they would hit a few clubs to drink and relax. "Why not?"
"I'm not in the mood," Jin said flatly, before bounding the steps and making a sprint for his car that had been brought up to the front of the school by one of the security guards.
Jin was tired. Usually, going to the club was his routine. He enjoyed clubbing and drinking and sometimes, dancing. He loved the freedom he felt in those moments like his life belonged to him and he could do as he pleased.
But Jin knew not to dream too big. Those thoughts only lasted those brief moments. His life wasn't his. Since the moment he was born, he'd been born to serve Castle, to do as he pleased. To leave everything he was doing and run over whenever he was called.
It made Jin despise being an only child. If there had been another, all the responsibilities wouldn't fall on him. He would have someone to share the burden with. Someone to understand him, because Jin felt no one in the world understood him.
Not even the two-faced, idiotic bullies staring at him. He knew they were using him for protection, connection and money. He was indulging because despite knowing all of these, they were keeping him distracted and entertained.
"But Jin," Hoseok called, once his hand touched the handle to the driver side. "You always treat us."
Of course. Jin stopped but didn't turn. He frowned at his Kensington Heritage Trench Coat getting drenched because he was in the rain listening to them. "Not today," he said before pulling the door open and slipping in.
He peeled out of the school in a matter of seconds, ignoring the speed limits. Jin was a fast driver, he'd learned that way thanks to Namjoon who used to do illegal racing in Singapore. He used to drive Jin to school before Jin had gotten his license the previous year, so Jin had learned to drive like him.
The weather was good for the shooting range. Jin needed to take some steam off by shooting at dummy figures. He always played a game while in the act. He'd put a face to the dummy figure and imagine he was pumping bullets into the person in his head and not just a stupid doll. It was the best stress reliever for him.
But he was tired. He wanted to go home and just sleep off his frustrations, thoughts and anger. They were progressively gnawing at his dwindling sanity, which was why he met with Doctor Yoon every Friday by 4.
The road was free because of the weather and it made it easy for Jin to drive the normal way he knew how to without worrying much about crashing into someone else. Not that it had happened before. Even if he drove like a maniac most of the time, he was always conscious of the other drivers on the road.
He made a call to the cook in his building and asked for dinner to be sent up to his room in 30 minutes. He lived close so hopefully he should be getting home in less than 10 minutes which would leave him with enough time to take a quick steaming shower before settling to eat his dinner, watch a movie and then fall asleep.
It seemed like a reasonable plan.
But plans didn't always go accordingly majority of the time because Jin spotted the familiar tacky, barely-working Toyota that Jungkook drove. He could recognize it from a mile away because there was an ugly and faded Iron man sticker pasted to the back windscreen. It was big and a sore sight.
The windows were rolled up and Jin couldn't see inside the vehicle from where he was. Was he dead or something? Jin slowed down and slammed his horn repeatedly but there was no sign of life from the other side.
He shook his head in disappointment. Yup, someone had killed the cop's son.
Still, he couldn't bring himself to drive off. He sat in place for a while, recounting the millions of reasons why he should be on his way and not bother with whatever was going on with the dude. Easier said than done.
Jin snatched an umbrella from under his car seat, opening it before stepping out into the blazing rain, leaving his engine running.
The stupid rain isn't letting up, what the hell? He thought as he made his way to the car. He looked through the driver-side window and spotted the kid, earphones plugged into his ears, an ugly iPhone 8 lying on his chest with his eyes shut.
Jin scoffed, before slamming his hand against the window. Jungkook jumped in his seat, his phone flying towards the dashboard. His head snapped to the window, and he looked visibly startled, then he was frowning. He rolled down the glass, heat and the smell of Jungkook's signature cheap perfume wafting out of the car.
"What do you want?" Jungkook asked in a not too friendly tone.
"I thought you were dead," Jin answered casually.
Jungkook's frown deepened. "Even if I was, how's that any of your business?"
Jin shrugged. "It's not. Although, I thought I would confirm and relay the message to your father maybe that way he'd stop harassing my people."
Scoffing a laugh, Jungkook shook his head. "My dad's going to get every single one involved in the heist and other crimes your thieving father have committed."
Jin wasn't moved by his empty threat. The police hadn't been able to pin anything on Castle or Kingdom for ten years. He doubted anything would change now. "Yeah. Sure. Good luck," Jin said dismissively.
"Why are you here?" Jungkook asked, looking sincerely confused.
"To confirm you were dead but unfortunately, it seems I get to see more of your annoying face for a bit longer," he said, letting out a dramatic sigh before leaning away. His eyes took in the car and he shook his head in disapproval. "You drive this deadbeat carton and expect not to have car problems?"
"How'd you know I have car problems?"
Ignoring him, Jin asked. "Your dad could buy you a new car. This is bullshit."
Jungkook just glared at him but he didn't deny it. Jin's lips tugged up slightly at the corner. Jungkook seemed to notice it because his expression softened the tinniest and his head tilted a bit to the side.
Jin licked his lips, killing the smile that had almost formed.
"God forbid someone sees you do something remotely human like smile," Jungkook said almost sadly.
Again, Jin ignored his words. "Go home. It's not safe here at night. I don't want it getting pinned on my dad if you get killed."
"And why would I get killed?"
"Why do bad people do bad things?"
"Ask your dad," Jungkook said.
Jungkook was stubborn. Jin was completely appalled by it. He shouldn't have stopped. He should have let the rain wash his car into the fucking drainage, however that was going to happen.
But the idiot had offered him a pen. No one had ever done something so random and simple yet more, for him before. So, he'd felt an urge and a pull to check up on him, to find out what the problem was and how he could help resolve it.
But Jungkook was an ungrateful brat and Jin wasn't going to waste his time with him anymore. "I hope you know how to fight," Jin said, before closing his umbrella shut and throwing it into Jungkook's car.
He turned, tuning out Jungkook's voice as he walked back to his car in the rain, climbed in and drove home.
