Chapter Four

"Have you been able to gather enough evidence to catch Castle?" Jungkook asked, rushing into the driver's side of his car and slamming the door behind him.

Droplets of water fell from his damp hair. It had been pouring after school and he'd thought it would let up before his tutoring session was over. To his chagrin, the storm was still blazing on full.

"Why are you asking me about my case, Jungkook?" Jeon Junho, his father, asked in exasperation, probably tired of how nosey his son was when it came to his work.

Jungkook shrugged to himself. "Nothing. I'm just curious. I thought we could chat for a bit, you know. Maybe I could keep you company and you could—"

"Son, I appreciate you calling to check up on me but I have a lot to do. I'm sure you understand, right?" He could hear papers get flipped and knew his father was busy. But he wanted to know!

"Maybe I could stop by for a minute or two? I'll bring coffee?"

"Go home, Jungkook. It's late. Why are you even at school at this time?"

Jungkook sighed. "Fine. I'm leaving now," he said stubbornly, switching on the engine of his old Camry. He toggled on the wiper and strapped on his seatbelt. "Are you coming home tonight?"

"No, Son. I have to go now," the man said in a rush. "Take care of your mother and brother."

"Sure. Be safe, dad," he said before the call disconnected. He let out a deep sigh, shaking his head. His father and his team were on their toes, running on days without sleep trying to catch the criminals who, in fact, they knew were Castle and his people.

It was 5 days now and they'd not been able to gather enough evidence to pin the heist on them. They'd been very thorough, Jungkook saw. There was nothing linking them to the heist yet their scent was all over it.

He wished he could help his father. Seeing Jin every day at school was like a reminder that the bad could do stuff and get away with it. Castle was probably at homing drinking champagne and eating the biggest lobster, while his father had been stuck at work for the past couple of days only coming home for a change of cloth before heading back just trying to crack the case.

It didn't seem right.

Slowly, he pulled out of the empty parking lot, the rain beating relentlessly against his windscreen. His wiper worked frantically to clear the water but just as it left it came.

Usually, Jungkook was someone who enjoyed the rain. It was his favourite weather, but it was less enjoyable when he was caught outside with a car that he'd recently serviced but wasn't sure was well enough to brew the literal storm.

He could already hear the exhaust choke and cough as he entered the freeway into the city centre. His school was situated in the rich part of town whereas his family lived in the not-so-rich part.

Jungkook's parents weren't poor but they weren't as wealthy as the parents of the students that went to his school. More than 80% of the students were kids of famous public figures: actors, actresses, politicians, musicians, ambassadors, reality tv stars and football stars.

And sometimes, bigtime lucky thieves, as in the case of Jin's father. As for Jin's mother, Jungkook had never heard of her. As far as he was knew, the woman had never been in the picture.

Being the son to one of the best detectives in the state, Jungkook had been granted a scholarship to school at the Moonsoon International Schools, from daycare up until High school and even university. If not, his family wouldn't be able to afford the completely ridiculous tuition fee.

Jungkook muttered a silent prayer as he drove deeper into the storm. It seemed as though the further he drove home, the heavier the rain was. "Please, don't betray me, Sugar," he said pleadingly to his car which he had named Sugar, to his father's confusion and mother's amusement.

He just wanted to get home in one piece without having to—

The car jolted forward, pushing Jungkook forward on his seat. "Oh no. No, no, no," he cried, driving on. But his car slowed, jolting forward occasionally.

Jungkook groaned but managed to park at the side of the road before the engine died off completely. He shut his eyes trying to contain his frustration. It was no one's fault. Absolutely no one, so he couldn't be mad at anyone.

He tried to turn on the engine a couple of times but all his efforts were futile. Eventually, he gave up and took off his seatbelt. He called his father's mechanic but Sunghoon was stuck in a remote neighborhood away from the city where he'd gone to fix a car for an old client.

He promised to call his shop to see if anyone was available to come take a look after the storm had passed, but he couldn't promise they would be free that day. Jungkook would have to leave his car overnight or tow it to Sunghoon's shop so someone could work on it the next day.

A few minutes later, Sunghoon's call came in. "Yoongi's currently busy but he would be free in a few hours. I wouldn't advise you waiting for him because it's going to be nightfall by the time he's done and your dad will kill me if he knows you're out late because of me. So, just find a way to get home for now and I'll have him come pick up the car key from the house later."

He could do that. "Thank you so much, Uncle Sunghoon."

"No problem. Just find a way to get home safe," the man repeated.

"I will. Thank you," Jungkook said again before ending the call. He looked out the window at the rain still falling in full force. It didn't look like it would let up anytime soon and there was no way he could walk home in it without waking up sick in the morning.

Jungkook did the most logical thing, he reclined his seat, sat back and waited.
