Conflicted

Kayde's POV

"Kayde! Breakfast!" My dad shouts and I go downstairs and he's at the breakfast table reading his newspaper while my mom finishes plating up the food.

"Anything interesting in the news today?" I ask and he shakes his head. "Not really"

"Do you have any plans for today?" I turn to my mom. "Nope. I don't have a job anymore remember?... not that you care" she mumbles that last part under her breath as she walks with breakfast and as always she puts the first plate in the empty space at the table then hands the rest of us ours.

She's done this ever since I can remember. Every meal time she makes and extra plate and makes a space at the table for Leanne and every birthday and Christmas they always get her gifts and put them under the tree. It's like my parents think she's going to just randomly turn up one day and everything's going to fall into place.

"I'm gonna be a little late home today. I have baseball practice after school" I tell them.

"You sure that's where your really going?" My mom mutters. "How long are you gonna keep doing this? I'm not going to apologise about that stupid camera. It wasn't right spying on her like that and..."

"No! What's not right is you interfering" my mom cuts me off "And how dare you try and make excuses for what you did! That's all we had left of her and now we'll never see her again and..."

"And that's her choice! You can't just spy on somebody because the don't want to see you and..."

"Don't you have school to go to?" My dad cuts in. "But, I haven't finished my breakfast yet"

"Your gonna miss your bus" he frowns and I sigh heavily, taking the hint.

When I got back from the hotel my parents first reaction was to flip out at me, which I expected, but since then neither if them have barely spoke to me. I know me taking that camera out of Leanne's office really hurt them, but I'm not sorry I did it. They had no right to spy on her like that. If she wanted them to see her then she would and they need to just except it and quit stalking her like this.

I can't imagine what Leanne is going through right now, but all this would have been a huge shock for her and them acting all crazy and trying to stalk her by hiding camera's in her office isn't going to help. All that's gonna do is freak her out and cause her to run even further away from us.

Michael's POV

"You really don't have to come with me. I'll be ok by myself" Leanne says as she getting ready. "I'm not leaving you to do this alone"

"It's just a grave. It's no big deal" she shrugs "Of course it's a big deal. Their your parents and..."

"Do you think I should have dressed them up a little more?" She turns to Annabelle and Ryan. "They look fine just as they are" I smile, watching the two of them crawling around.

They've only recently started crawling, but already their getting competitive and trying to race each other.

"Do you mind if we stop and get some flowers on the way?" Leanne asks and I nod "of course. Are you sure your gonna be ok?" I ask softly and she nods and smiles slightly, but I can see in her eyes she's really nervous.

Leanne hasn't been to Ryan and Anna's grave since she found out about Carley and she's been really nervous about going back.

We've talked briefly about Carley and she still doesn't know what she wants to do and I can tell that apart of her wants to speak to her, but whenever we've spoken about her Leanne seems to get this look of guilt, like she's done something wrong by mentioning her name and changes the subject.

*
We get to the grave and like always I go over and sit on the bench with the twins so Leanne can have some privacy and I watch her sitting crossed legged on the floor talking to the grave the way she always does.

She never tells me what she says to them and I'm always really tempted to quietly go over at listen before she sees me, but out of respect I keep my distance and don't ask her about it unless she brings it up first.

I know what Ryan and Anna did was awful and unforgivable, but regardless of what they did to Carley. They were still the one that raised Leanne and loved her and took care of her and Leanne loved them too and their the only parents she's ever known and just like everybody, Leanne is always going to have that bond and loyalty towards them and that's what's stopping her from wanting to see Carley.

I know I sound like a hypocrite since I tried to keep her away and stop Leanne finding out about Carley, but I know now that I was wrong and I should have just told her the truth instead of letting her find out the way that she did because now, not only is she heartbroken, but there's nothing I can do to help her because she's lost all trust in me and I don't blame her either. First I kept it from her what really happened to her parents when they died and then I hid this from her. She had enough trust issues already and because of my stupidity, she's now stopped trusting everybody and me especially.

While I'm waiting I get a call from Janet. "Hey! Where are you? Me and Toya came to watch the twins"

"We're just at her parents grave, but we'll be back soon. Just let yourselves in and we'll be home as soon as we can" I say quietly then hang up the phone.

"Who was that?" I hear and turn back around and Leanne is walking back over to us. "It was just Janet. Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you. I thought I'd switched it off"

"It's fine. We should probably get going" she shrugs. "It's fine. We can stay a little longer if you want to. There's no rush" I smile slightly. "I was ready to go anyway" she shrugs and picks Ryan up and I get Annabelle and we go back to the car and for the first 5 minutes of driving, neither of us say anything. "It didn't help" Leanne finally says. "What didn't?"

"Talking to them. I thought it would somehow.. but it didn't" she mumbles that last part. "Maybe it'll help if you speak with Car.."

"Can we stop by the gas station on the way? I wanna get a candy bar" she cuts me off, changing the subject and I nod.

"Will you be ok at the resturant today?" I ask, slightly changing the topic and she nods. "Are you sure? Because I could always not go to the hotel and..."

"I'll be fine really" she smiles slightly. "Plus you can't be here helping me all the time. "You told me you used to dream of owning your own hotel since you were a little kid"

"I know and now I have it and.."

"And I'm not gonna stop you from running it. Your a great businessman and you have the best hotel in the city. You can't just give up on that to keep helping me at the resturant" she says softly and I nod.

"It's kinda cool we both got the dream buisness we wanted as kids" I smile slightly and she does the same then looks at the back seat at the twins who have fallen asleep. "I wonder what their dreams are gonna be" she says watching them as they sleep peacefully.

"I'm not sure, but Ryan seems to always want his toy animals so maybe he'll wanna be a vet or a farmer or something like that" I suggest. "Maybe. What about Annabelle" she asks "that's ones easy" I shrug. "With her personality. She's gonna be a diva for sure" I chuckle slightly, making her do the same.

Leanne's POV

After leaving the cemetry, Michael and I go back to the house and hang out with Janet and Latoya for awhile then the two of us leave for work. I feel bad asking Janet to drive an hour to get here, but now we've moved into my old house We're trying to get Ryan and Annabelle used to the new place and don't really want to confuse them by keep dropping them off at different houses.

When I got to work. I was really surprised when I saw TJ sitting at one of the tables. "Hey! What are you doing here?" I smile. "I haven't seen you for awhile and I thought I'd stop by to check on you and I thought we could have a little talk" he smiles back and gives me a hug. "That's great, but I just need to do some prep work and get stuff ready first"

"That's fine. I'll just wait here. You take your time" He smiles and I smile back and leave for the kitchen.

I have a feeling what TJ wants to talk about and was kinda hoping he'd take the hint when I said I was busy so I could avoid it, but just like always he doesn't and remains seating at one of the tables until I'm done.

LaToya's POV

Normally Janet babysits for Michael and Leanne by herself while their working, but I feel kinda bad for what happened last week. I wasn't trying to act stuck up or snotty about Leanne when I said I assumed her parents didn't have alot of money. It was just a passing comment because of the way she acts sometimes, but for some reason Michael took it as I was insulting her or using him for his money, but I really wasn't. It was just an innocent comment that he took completely out of context, but Joesph really got on my back about it when I got home and told me I had to be nicer to them which is why I offered to help Janet out today, but I didn't realise we would have to go to their house and not to mothers like most days. If I'd known I'd have to stay in a murder house all day then I never would have offered to help.

"I don't see why Michael couldn't have just dropped them off at mothers house instead of us driving all the way here. He has to pass that way to get to the hotel anyway" I shrug.

"Because their living here now and they want the twins to get used to their new home" Janet shrugs and continues playing with the twins. "Could you get me their juice? It's in the kitchen"

"Can't you get it?" I say, looking towards the kitchen door and she sighs heavily getting up. "Oh my god... your such a wuss"

"Have you forgotten what happened in there? 3 people were murdered in that room" I remind her. "Yeah, but it's not like there's dead bodies still in there" she shrugs "Their spirits are probably still here though" I shrug and she rolls her eyes at me. "You watch way to much tv" she chuckles "You have yo admit there's a creepy vibe to this house"

"I don't think so?" She shrugs "I think I has a warm cozy vibe actually" she smiles and there's a knock at the door. "Can you get that? Or are you too scared to do that too?" She giggles and I roll my eyes and go and answer the door and there's and old man there.

"May I help you?" I smile and he looks at me confused. "Your not the Mason's" he looks at me confused. "No. I'm Latoya. I'm just babysitting for Leanne and Michael. This is their house" I smile and he nods. "I remember her. Such a sweet little girl. Did she move?" He asks and I'm about to speak when Janet walks over with the twins. "Who is it?" Janet asks and the man stares at the twins for a moment.

"Those arent's your babies" he frowns at her. "No. I'm just looking after them while Leanne and Michael are working. Can we help you?" She smiles at him.

"I'm Gerry. I live across the street and saw you two. I thought someone had broke in"

"No. They know we're here. They went to work an hour ago" she explains and he nods. "As long as everything's ok. I'm just across the road if you girls need anything"

"Thank you. We'll keep that in mind" I smile at him through pursed lips, getting a little irritated with him. I'm sure he's a nice man, but it's pretty rude of him to just come to the house and start questioning us like it's somehow his buisness what we're doing here.

"Well.. it seems everything ok here. I guess I'll leave you girls to it" he smiles and we both smile back and nod.

He turns to leave then stops and turns back to us. "Such a shame what happened to the Mason's"

"You knew Leanne's parents?" Janet asks and he nods. "They moved here from Indiana with their baby girl. She was only a tiny little thing. Only a few days old" he smiles. "Terrible what happened to her parents. They were such a loving and caring couple"

"You know what happened here?" I ask and he nods. "They were Murdered!.. poor Ryan and Anna never saw it coming. None of us did. Some people say it was his sister who did it.. And she kidnapped their daughter! None of us saw that poor little girl again for years"

"Yeah, Well she's ok now" I shrug. "Now that evil woman is gone. She was murdered to you know? In this same house" he continues then looks around to check nobody is listening then comes closer to us.

"Some people say it was the daughter that came back to avenge her parents" he whispers then moves away and I look at him nervously "Well you know what people are like for gossiping and spreading rumours" Janet smiles at him and he nods. "Of course. Little Leanne could never do something like that. She's all grown up now. Married with two children too" he smiles.

"Yeah we know. It's our brother she's married too" Janet smiles and he nods. "He's a nice boy. Shame she left him out in the storm though"

"She what!?" I frown. "Their fine now though. Glad they worked things out. They both live here now. I think she wanted to be close to her parents. They may not be here in the flesh, but I know their spirits our still with us" he smiles and I nod nervously and fake a smile.

"Anyway. I should leave you girls to it. Just came to check everything was ok" he smiles and turns and walks away.

"I told you this place was creepy" I say to Janet as I'm closing the door. "Are you serious? The guys like 100. You know what old people are like. They all go a little loopy and senile. Just like our gramdpa did. He seemed nice though" she shrugs. "I'm not talking about him. I'm talking about this house. Even he said their spirits were here"

"That's ridiculous. I've been here a whole bunch of times and there's no ghosts or spirits in this hou..."

She's interrupted by a loud smash from the living room "I told you!" I say nervously and stand behind her and the twins and she starts laughthing when their cat walks out of the living room with soil all over him.

"See!? I told you this house was haunted. They've just attacked poor Bugsy!"

"Or... He's just knocked over a plant pot again. Why Michael and Leanne keep buying plants is beyond me?" She rolls her eyes. "I can't take this" I shake my head nervously. "What are you talking abo..."

"No..  I'm done. I tried, but I'm done" I cut her off and quickly grab my things and leave before she can stop me.

Dispite what the rest of my family think. I'm trying my best to be supportive of Michael and Leanne moving and I'm trying to be there for them, but I can't be in that house.

****
Leanne's POV

"It's not as easy as that and even if I did wanna talk to her. Which I don't. She hasn't bothered to contact me since that day at the hotel, so clearly she doesn't care.. just like I don't care about her"

"That's Because she can't contact you and of course she cares. She wouldn't have spent all that time looking for you if she didn't care. She's your mom and..."

"No she's not" I shake my head, cutting him off. "She's nothing to me. Ryan and Anna are my parents not her" I frown and he looks at me sympatheticly for a moment.

"Your not doing anything wrong. If you wanna talk to her, it doesn't mean your abandoning or turning your back on your parents" he says softly. "There's nothing for me to talk to her about. Their my parents not her" I shrug and he doesn't say anything for a moment.

"If you'd been adopted. How would you feel?"

"But I wasn't so.."

"But how would you feel?" He cuts me off "Let's say you we're adopted and your parents told you about Carley being your birth mom. Would you wanna talk to her then?"

"Well yeah I guess, but that's different"

"Not that much. Ryan and Anna may not have been your bio parents, but the raised you as their own and that's never gonna change. You wanting to meet your birth mom doesn't make you a bad person or mean your turning your back on your parents... because that's who Ryan and Anna are and always will be, but everybody deserves to know who they are and where they came from" he says softly and I don't say anything.

Apart of me does want to talk to Carley, but I can't help but feel like if I talk to her then I'm betraying my mom and dad in someway. I know what they did was wrong, but I can't turn my back on them. My mom and dad were everything to me and still are and after they died, The memories I have of them were what kept me going and its their memory that's still keeping me going.

I do want to hear Carley's side of things, but there's more sides to every story and my mom and dad aren't here anymore to tell me their side or to defend themselves and I don't want to sit and hear some stranger bad mouthing them to me and making them sound like their some evil monsters when they weren't. They were my parents and they were everything to me.
