In the small little compartment we sat. Zach was wrapped in small bandages, the doctors did what they could, but they told me that they would be certain of anything until Zach woke up. I brushed Zach's soft locks from his face. His head was in my lap. His eyes were closed, and every few seconds I would check his pulse. It was uneven, and for a few scary moments the thought ran through my head, what if he didn't wake up.

"I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason" I whispered the soft lyrics of our song. The song that was ours, and ours only.

"Bringing something we must learn
And we are led..." I started chocking on my own words. I checked his pulse again, and I couldn't imagine a better feeling than feeling his heart beat over and over again right then.

"To those who help us most to grow
If we let them, And we help them in return." I continued on with the song.

Well, I don't know if I believe that's true, But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you..." I thought of the last time he had started to sing this song, we hadn't sung it together in awhile. It was a long time ago, we weren't together back then. I had left him, left him in the ruins. What had he done? He came right back like a streak of sunlight.

"Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun, Like a stream that meets a boulder, Halfway through the wood, Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you, I have been changed for good." The song wasn't over, but it might as well have been, because one of my own soft tears fell on to Zach's face. I put my own hand in Zach's, wishing for him just to be ok before they came.

"Please wake up." I whispered. His hand have me a small squeeze, and right there and then, that was the best Christmas present I could wish for.
