Unimportant Things
Years and years
Have come and went,
And many notes
In bottles sent
To anyone
Who would lend an eye,
Be a ray of sunshine
Across my sky.
And for years and years,
There was no reply.
When no one came
In search of me,
I began to think
That I just might be
Lost for all eternity.
But this, my friend,
Was not to be.
For late one night,
As I watched the sea,
I saw a fire
Drawing close to me.
After all these years
I'd be set free.
I learned again
The joys of life.
And melted my heart
Of stone and ice.
I learned to laugh
Until I cried
And needed a rag
To dry my eyes.
I learned to dance.
I learned to sing.
I learned to love.
I found my wings
And other unimportant things.
