Chapter 16 Fun
(Sorry for the late update on this chapter. Been busy. I finished this a while ago, but forgot to post it. So, here you go! Enjoy!)
"Dudes! I'm so close to winning! Finally!" Thomas cheered out loud, feeling like he could raise his arms up in victory.
Kara laughed softly, "We'll see. Anything can happen, Thomas. You know that."
He shrugged and chuckled, "Yeah, but I could win. Anything is possible. You know that too."
Kara rolled her eyes with a small grin, "Whatever you say, bro."
John just chuckled in response as it was finally his turn to play once more, "I can't believe that I was skipped so many times, yet still winning. This seems to be a good game indeed."
Kara smirked playfully as it was her turn next. She grinned as she had a perfect idea, and she hoped that it would work out the way she had thought it out in her head. She used a yellow reverse card, making her brother go once again.
John sighed as well as chuckled to himself, "We're playing this game now, aren't we?"
Kara giggled, "It appears so. Let's just see if you have a green. I bet you don't, but go ahead and see if you can impress us or not," she folded her arms while she slumped into her chair out of relaxation.
He nodded with a sly grin.
Everyone in the room grew slightly tense, wondering if he was actually going to win this round. They all seemed to be staring him down, waiting for some proof if he had won or not. To their relief, he slowly drew another card from the deck that was turned face down towards the table.
John could feel a rush of sighs waving all the way down to where he was sitting. He couldn't help but grin to himself as he stared back at his cards that were in his hands.
The game went by slower than anyone was expecting, and no one seemed to be winning quite yet, even though John has been pretty close to winning multiple times now. Laughter filled the air, and everyone was breathing it in, allowing the contagious air fill their nose and lungs to the brim of exploding in the joy that they felt when they were around each other.
Out of the blue, Nick started clapping as if he was moving to a ghostly beat. Then he started humming, which grabbed everyone's attention as the game went on. It wasn't long until everyone was at least grinning to the sounds of music that was escaping his mouth.
When it was finally Kara's turn once again, she knew exactly what she was going to do, and she was going to take her plan into action. I was worried that this wasn't going to work. I'm so glad that it will not. Oh my brother will be in for a big surprise now! She placed down her yellow "draw two" card, which forced John to draw two more cards; causing him to not win and end the game.
He chuckled softly, rolling his eyes as he grabbed two cards from the unused card stack. He turned to his grinning sister, "You win this time, sis, but I'll get you next time."
Kara felt like she won the most important race of all times, "If this cycle gets reversed, of course."
John nodded, "If we reverse this. Though," he added with a small smile, "It will be reversed eventually if we keep this up."
Kara eyed him as if she found herself a challenger, "You're acting all confident for someone that just had to draw two cards out of this deck here."
John grinned, "That's only because like I've mentioned earlier, anything is possible. I'm not going to lose hope in my cards yet, Kara. You better do the same."
She rolled her eyes as she focused back in on the game, "Whatever. I'm just going to make sure you don't end up winning this."
John acted as if he was all offended, "Hey! That's no fair at all!"
Kara slipped in a grin, "It is for the rest of us so went don't have to lose to you, bro. Then we can all have an opportunity to try to win. Besides, there's not even teams in this game, unless if we really wanted to do that. Everyone is against everyone. That's just how it's gonna work," she shrugged acting innocent about everything, which she felt like she personally was... to an extent. I might have caught my brother off guard by playing my special cards to him to prevent him from winning, but I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm just playing a fair game of Uno with my friends and brother.
John sighed as he rolled his eyes, smiling, "You're a big cheater, you know that?"
"And why is that?"
"You're just acting like you didn't do anything, when we almost could have won the game with me winning."
Kara laughed softly, "Oh boo hoo! The big baby is pouting over a loss." I'm so glad that John doesn't take anything too seriously. I would be in big trouble right now if he did... This is always so fun to do, because we just end up teasing each other back in forth for as long as we possibly can. I swear this has always been like some sort of contest to us; to see who will "offend" the other the most. Sometimes the only thing our parents could do was laugh, and for those that didn't know that we were just messing around, it got boring real quick. Gosh, I need to focus back on the game right now and stop talking to myself.
John grinned at Thomas, "So, bro... What's it gonna be? Will you mess up Katie, or will you allow me to mess with my sister for once?"
Thomas grinned and chuckled and his friend, "You'll just have to see for yourself, dude. Watch and learn the master," he slowly placed down a card, and it was a "draw 4" card that allowed the player to choose whatever four colors that was available. "Hm... Let's see... I choose... Green. We haven't done that in awhile."
Katie sighed but giggled, "Darn... I don't even have that color. Who knows, maybe drawing four cards might help with something. Let's see..." she drew four random cards, and didn't reply with anything as Nick took his turn next.
"This one is going to be good. I can taste it."
The comment that Nick announced made Katie giggle softly.
Nick grinned like he won first place for some sort of humor award.
Katie nugged Nick playfully as well returning a playful grin from seeing his reaction of making her laugh in the first place.
Nick chuckled as he copied her actions in return while in a playful manner, "A job well done, don't you think, Katie?"
Katie rolled her eyes as she gave him a soft smile, not saying much else to him.
Nick rose a brow while grinning more, "What? What's that smile and eye roll for?"
Katie shrugged, not letting the smile leave her face, "Oh, nothing. Why?" She looked at him innocently. Then she placed her hands on her hips. "Is there something wrong with me smiling? Huh? Huh?" She moved closer and closer to his face as she spoke, trying to make him laugh as well.
John chuckled softly, "No, there's nothing wrong with that. There's definitely nothing wrong with that at all," he chuckled again. "I don't know what you're talking about it, Katie. You must be going crazy."
She giggled again, "Naw. I think you are going more crazy than I ever would be. You're also a huge tease to me and everyone else. You can't deny that, nor is it bad either."
He chuckled once more, enjoying the little conversation that they both were having, "No, I can't. But you know what you can't deny?"
Katie looked at John and felt her brow move on its own, "What?"
"That you are a beautiful young woman who hasn't changed one bit."
Katie felt the room grew warmer by the second. She laughed awkwardly, "U-Um... I-Is it warm in here, or is it just me?"
Kara looked at the two friends with a blank stare, "Uh... It's just you, Katie. I feel fine..."
Katie nodded as she looked at the others. They all shook their heads, and this only made her blush more than ever. Her hands were blocking her face, and she hoped that no one would try to reveal her face to the world.
Nick chuckled softly, trying to remove Katie's hands out of the way, "Katie, don't worry. You don't need to be embarrassed. It's just us, your friends. It's no one else. Don't worry. No one else can hear us but us, alright?" He attempted to make her feel a little bit better at least, feeling bad slightly, though was enjoying this at the same time.
Katie sighed and tried moving away as she spoke shyly, "Th-Thomas... S-Stop..."
Thomas laughed softly, "Alright. Just don't worry about a thing. You'll be alright. We'll all here for you, and I hope that you know that I didn't do this to make fun of you. It's just some fun little teasing that we do back and forth, you know?" He grinned calmly at her.
Katie nodded slightly, "Yeah... I know..." She grinned slightly up at him, embracing him for a hug. "Thank you. Thank you for trying to make me feel better... Even if I made this very uncomfortable I bet..."
He chuckled and patted her back lightly, "Hey, it's no big deal. Really," he waved his hand slightly to shrug everything off as if it were nothing. "That's what friends are for."
She nodded in agreement, "Yeah, I guess you're right about that," she giggled softly. "Good observation, genius."
He grinned, "Thanks. I am a genius. I do my best."
Katie giggled and before she replied, a voice spoke up finally.
"Are you two love birds ready? It's your turn, John."
"Oh, right! Sorry guys. Thanks, Maggie," he rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled, taking his turn. "Uh... Let's see... Ooh! Hehehe. Guess what guys?"
"What?" Everyone replied in unison.
"Uno!"
"Wait... What?" Nick blinked. "How did you get Uno so fast... Didn't you just...? Didn't you have a couple or so cards before hand, or whatever?"
John nodded, "Yeah, I did. But that was about two rounds or so ago. I don't know. I didn't keep track. All I know is that I'm winning again."
Nick rolled his eyes, "We'll just have to wait and see. Katie is actually pretty close to winning too. Who knows, she could be our champain, or any of us. Don't be so certain yet until this happens. This is like a guessing game. A game that we can only win by chance and slightly by choice, but not enough to win easily. So, we will just have to see, like I said."
John nodded, "You have a fair point there dude, though this game can't last forever."
"Technically it can, but just all depends on us."
******************************************************************************
After some time of going around the group a few times, it finally landed back to John again. John looked at the group, noticing that they were all on the edge of their seats. They were waiting for what he would do next, and if he would be crowned champion of Uno.
"Oh, he better not have a green, a "one", or both at the exact same time," Kara slumped. "I swear... If he does... I may or may not scream."
Katie giggled, "Don't worry, Kara. It's just a game."
"I know," Kara smiled at her new found friend. "My family and I are just very competitive with each other, and losing usually isn't an option for any of us. That's one thing you should know about when it comes to us; how competitive we can become when playing even simple games such as Uno."
As if on cue, John yelled, "Boom! I won! Finally! This game has been going on forever, but it's been fun. Good game guys!"
"Good game!" Everyone else replied happily, as the boys patted each other and the girls on the back, and the girls either copied the same option, or just did a half hug.
Kara sighed though smiled as she aimed her arm towards her brother, "Good game, bro. You played fair and deserved the win."
John rose a brow as he turned and smirked slightly, "Did my little sister just compliment me and allow me to keep my win?"
She shrugged and smiled, "Yeah, I mean. It's just a game. There's always a next time, and I promise you, I'll beat you next time," she pointed her finger towards him. "Remember that, okay?"
He chuckled, "Alright. I will. Good to know that you didn't give up your place because you had me worried there for a second."
She grinned, "Oh, good, because I did that on purpose," her hair flipped as she started walking out of the room. "Let's see how good you'll do when I beat you at video games."
