Chapter Five
After two hours of driving Colin turned off the interstate onto an exit. We drove for a little bit longer before we came to this large office building. It looked like there were at least twelve floors. I searched for a sign saying what the building was but there was no such sign. Colin drove towards a toll booth and flashed a card. Much like a card you would hang on your rear view mirror to show you had a year pass to get into national parks. The guy in the booth nodded and opened the gate.
Colin expertly drove through the many twists and turns before he pulled into a spot just outside the building that had a sign that read 'reserved'. Colin grabbed his leather jacket and got out of the car. I followed hastily. When I was at Colin's side he walked towards the glass doors and went inside. There was a lady at the desk typing on a computer. When Colin walked up to her she grinned.
"Colin!! It's been a while since I've seen you around here."
Colin grinned back at her. "Lydia. It's great to see you too. Tell Matthew that we're here."
Lydia glanced at me before her eyes widen and she nodded picking up the receiver and speaking into it.
"Yes sir. They'll be right up." She looked at Colin with wide eyes. "He's ready for you."
Colin smirked at her expression. "Cool. See ya Lyd."
He grabbed my arm and pulled me to an elevator pressing the button that said 'office'. I raised my eyebrows at him but he just shook his head.
"Ace?" He said so seriously that I was startled for a minute.
"Yea?"
"You need to know that Matthew -my boss- isn't happy that I revealed myself to you. He is going to be a little testy towards me but he should be find towards you, ok?"
I just nodded because I was still so confused.
The elevator dinged and Colin too a deep breath before he stepped out. We stepped right out of the elevator to a massive office. It was black and white everywhere. Two of the walls were completely glass. The other two held another door, the elevator, and book shelves. In the middle of the room was a large black table with eight seats on either side. In the left corner was a mahogany desk with stacks of paper all over it. Behind the desk was a tall man. Even taller than Colin who towered over my short self of 5'5. He had the same dark brown hair Colin had but his eyes were a brilliant blue.
He stood up with a stack of paper in his arms and saw us. Immediately he glared at Colin, much like Colin predicted. The man dropped the stack of paper and marched right up to Colin and I and got in Colin's face. I took a couple of startled steps back while Colin held his ground.
"How dare you make yourself known to this girl? Hmm? I spent years training you myself in stealth and you blow it because why? You've got a crush on the mission? Never again! and now I have to figure out how to explain it to her early! Early Colin!! You know that we wait until they are mature!" Colin's boss finished with a deep breath.
Colin had only flinched twice through out the entire speech. "Sorry." He stepped closer to his boss and growled lowly, "and I don't have a 'crush'!"
I was pretty sure that he didn't want me to hear that so I didn't show that I heard.
Colin backed away from the other man and turned to grab my arm and pull me next to him. I felt absolutely minuscule next to the two towering men.
"Matthew, this is Acelias Green."
I glared at Colin. Matthew reached out his hand for me to shake.
"I'm Matthew. Colin's boss. So nice to meet you Acelias." He said has if he hadn't just yelled at Colin about me.
I smiled and shook his hand back. "Nice to meet you. And please, it's Ace."
Matthew nodded. "Well, come sit. My, are you hungry? It's about lunch time."
I nodded not really sure what to say.
"How about I order some thai food?" Matthew suggested.
I glanced at Colin but he was glaring out a window so I just nodded and smiled. Matthew nodded and went to his desk and pulled out his phone. While he was talking I walked across the big office to stand next to Colin. The view was breathtaking. You could see the entire city, out over the ocean and the harbor. I stared out for a few minutes before I looked up at Colin. He hasn't acknowledge my presence so I nudged him with my shoulder in the ribs.
He still wouldn't look down at me so I nudged him again but harder and with my elbow. He finally glared down at me. The intensity was so shocking the I literally had to step back under his gaze. I must have looked confused because he grimaced before rearranging his face.
"Sorry," he muttered to me. "I'm not mad at you. I'm just frustrated with Matthew."
I nodded. "Why?"
"I can't explain it to you. It's really complicated."
I glowered, I couldn't stand not knowing things like that.
I heard Colin chuckle and I looked up. "What?"
He shook his head. "Nothing, just that you look adorable when you are frustrated." He grinned.
I blushed and turned back towards the window remembering what his boss said to him earlier.
Matthew stopped talking and clapped his hands together. "Well, food will be here in a few so let's talk business."

That was interesting! Thanks to my little brother for letting me use his name and appearance. (Though he's ten and not mid-thirties) I really hope you liked that. I love cliffhangers! Does Colin have a crush?? Mmm!? And what does Matthew mean by 'not telling them until they are mature'? I'm sure Ace is curious given she is 16!! Lol, love you guys!
Until the next update!!!
