"He's been seeing Athena Grant.
I don't know if it's serious"

"No that's good"

****

Kenna knew all too well things had been off with her and Bobby lately. He had told her that they couldn't be anything. And she understood it. It just hurt her that he barely even talked to her now.

She knew all that had happened with her and her ex. But she was moving on from it all. She was becoming the best version of herself. Knowing building her career was all she wanted.

Was she wanting to stay at the 118 for the foreseeable? Yes. Did she see herself moving onto somewhere new? She didn't know.

Kenna sighed as she sat in her apartment. She knew she was needing to go into the firehouse soon. But she wasn't too sure how tense it would be.

Kenna got dressed and sighed. She knew that it was going to be hard. But she was professional enough to know she needed to not dwell on it.

****

Bobby looked up as Kenna walked in. Her hair was in a high pony. He saw the smile on her face. Ellie walked over to her and smiled. "Is everything okay? You're usually here before me," she said.

Kenna nodded. "I just had an issue where I didn't want to get out of bed this morning. But I'm here now. Just hoping we can have an easy day again."

"I doubt it. It's us. Have you seen us? We are the lean mean fire fighting machines," Ellie said as she shared a look with Eddie.

Kenna raised her eyebrows. "And is there something going on there that you're not telling me?"

"No idea what you're talking about. Hey! Bobby. How's the dating profile going again?" Ellie asked.

Kenna turned to him. She raised her eyebrows. "Oh. I didn't know you were dating again cap. Good on you," she said.

"I'm not."

Ellie frowned. She looked between her brother and Kenna. She knew there was definitely something there with them. But both of them were being stubborn.

****

The 118 had been called out to a car that had gone over a mountain. Bobby looked to them. "Kenna. I want you up here. It's too dangerous."

Kenna rolled her eyes. "With all due respect sir, I've been in situations like this numerous times in New York. I am more than qualified to do this."

Bobby turned to her. He had anger in his eyes. "I am your captain. You do what I tell you," he said.

"Fine."

Kenna walked over to Chim and helped him with setting up the wrench. Chim looked to her. "Don't worry. He's just doing this because he cares."

"I don't need him to care. I need to be able to do my job. It's what I'm paid to do. It's what I trained to do," Kenna told him.

"Bobby is protective."

"I don't need him to be Chim. I need to know that I'm capable of what I'm here to do," Kenna said.

****

Things had gone completely wrong. The wrench holding the car into place had snapped. Bobby was trapped. Kenna ran over to the engine and got into her gear.

Chim looked to her. "What are you doing?" He asked.

"That's our captain down there. I am not going to let him die. No chance," Kenna said.

"Bobby is going to kill you."

"That may be. But I'm not going to let my him die. Now are you going to help me get down there?" Kenna asked as she turned to him.

Chim inwardly groaned. Hoping Bobby wouldn't say anything. He helped Kenna onto the safety harness and helped lower her down.

****

Bobby looked to Kenna and glared. "What are you thinking? It's dangerous!" He said.

"Frankly cap I don't care. I'm doing my job! Now shut up and let me," Kenna said.

The others had managed to get out of the car before the cable had snapped. They were all watching their breaths held.

Bobby looked to Kenna. "You are reckless. Risking your life."

"Well tickle me pink. I thought this was the job I applied for," Kenna said as she attached him to her harness. She sighed. "You can berate me after. But this car is about to go over any second now. So let's just get out of this mess."

****

Eddie walked over to Ellie. She was panicking about her brother being stuck. And she was worried about Kenna. Eddie took her hand. "Kenna knows what she's doing. She's not gonna let him die."

"Bobby's all I have left. My mom is... well not a mom. I have another brother. But he's, no comment. My dad is dead. Bobby is the only family I have left. So if I lose him, I have no one," she mumbled.

"That's not true. You have us. Christopher loves you too. He tells me he thinks the pretty girl with the brown eyes will be his wife one day," Eddie told her.

Ellie smiled through the tears. She looked to him. "Thanks. For being there for me. I guess we should go and see what's happening," she said.

****

After what felt like an eternity, Kenna had managed to lift herself and Bobby up. Chim and Hen checked Bobby over and he was fine. Kenna stood there and watched.

Ellie came over. "I should tell you. But he's not got a dating profile. Athena Grant. He's been seeing her. I don't know if it's serious. Or just casual," she told her.

Kenna nodded. She sighed. "No that's good.  He deserves to be happy again. He told me about his wife and kids. So if he can find someone who makes him happy, he deserves it," she said as she took off her safety harness.

Ellie looked to her. "If you ask me, then you and my brother have something. I've seen it since I first came back from my leave. You make him smile."

"Apparently not."

****

"Anders. My office."

Kenna sighed and walked into Bobby's office. She looked to him and sat down. "What's up cap?" She asked nonchalantly.

Bobby glared. "What's up? What's up is that you ignored a direct order. You disobeyed your captain and came into a dangerous position!"

Kenna rolled her eyes. "I wasn't about to let you go and die! You are someone that I care about! I am not going to let you die," she said.

"Maybe I wanted to. Maybe I wanted to see my kids again. To be with my kids again. Did you think about that?" Bobby asked.

Kenna blinked a couple of times. She shook her head. "Y-You don't mean that. Cap... you can't mean that. Ellie needs you. We all need you," she said.

"My kids needed me more."

Kenna sighed as she looked to him. "Cap. I know it's not been easy lately. But you don't mean that you want to end it. You... you have Athena. I know about the two of you. And I'm happy for you," she said.

Bobby just looked to her. "I have a book. There are a 148 names in here. The lives that I owe. When I've done that, I can see my kids again. That's the way it has to be," he told her.

Kenna blinked a couple of times. "No way Cap. You are not going to do that. I won't let you."

"I'm sorry. But it's the way it has to be."

****

Kenna went home that evening and sighed. She couldn't help but worry about Bobby and what he had said. She grabbed her phone and text Ellie.

I need to check on Bobby. Do you have his address?// Kenna x

After a few moments, Ellie text her Bobby's address. She grabbed her car keys and left.

She soon arrived and knocked the door. But there was no answer. She sighed. "Bobby. It's Kenna. Let me in. I'm worried," she said as she banged the door.

There was still no answer. She sighed and nodded. "Don't fire me for this," she mumbled.

She booted the door and it came off. "Wow. This building security is absolutely crap," she said to no one in particular.

She walked inside and frowned as she saw Bobby passed out on his bed.

Alcohol surrounded him. "No. Cap," she mumbled. She walked over and shook him awake. He wasn't moving. "Great."

Kenna somehow managed to lift up Bobby and take him into the shower. She threw him in there and turned the shower on. Bobby came around a few minutes later.

He looked around and saw Kenna. He sighed. "You shouldn't be here."

Kenna rolled her eyes. "Oh please.  You're struggling cap. When was the last time you went to a meeting?" She asked as she went to get him some dry clothes.

Bobby didn't answer the question. Kenna handed him the clothes. "I'll wait here for you. Get changed. Oh! You may need to invest in a new front door. I kinda had to break it down," she said.

****

Bobby came into the living room and saw Kenna who had made him a coffee. He sat down and neither spoke for a few minutes until Kenna broke the silence.

"What happened? What made you break sobriety?" Kenna asked as she looked to him.

"Bad day."

Kenna nodded. "Did you not go with Athena? I heard you say you had a date tonight with her," she said.

Bobby shook his head. "No. I cancelled. I needed to be on my own," he told her.

"Yes. Which was a dumb idea. Get dressed. I'm taking you to a meeting. I'm not taking no for an answer. And I'm not going to leave you here for you to start drinking again."

****

Kenna sat in her truck and waited for Bobby. She saw him coming out and smiled. "See how great we get on when you just listen to me?" She said.

Bobby just nodded. "We don't need to tell anyone about this."

"I won't betray your trust. But maybe you should go and see Athena. So you're not alone," Kenna told him.

Bobby sighed and shook his head. "She's with her kids. She doesn't need me turning up there. I'll be okay."

"Hate to break it to you. But I'm not going to leave you alone. So you can come back to my place. You can sleep on my couch. I don't have alcohol there," Kenna said.

Bobby looked to her. "Look. This is my problem to deal with. I'm going home to my apartment. I'm gonna fix my door and then I'm going to sleep."

****

Kenna had taken Bobby home. She sat in her truck and sighed. She knew all too well that Bobby wasn't okay. He was struggling. She just needed to figure out how to help him without letting anyone else know how badly things were going for their boss.

Authors Note;
I promise there will be a time when I do actually do the episodes. But at the moment, I'm enjoying doing my own chapters.
Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see happen in this and I will make it happen
