-Two-
❝I'm Buck. And you are?❞
❝Not interested❞

Kenna stood looking in the mirror. She had tied her hair up into French braid. It was her first shift with the 118. She didn't know how she felt about it.
She walked into the kitchen and poured herself a coffee. She knew that she had to rent out a new apartment after the fire. And while she didn't have much, she was adamant she was going to turn it into a home.
She looked around and sighed to herself. "Come on Kenna. You've got this. You've run headfirst into burning buildings. You can go and meet your new team," she mumbled to herself.
Kenna downed her coffee and smiled to herself. "Let's go girl. We can do this."

Kenna arrived the station. She sighed and smiled as she walked inside. "Excuse me. I'm looking for Captain Nash?"
A guy turned to her and smirked. "Oh. You're the new recruit. I'm Evan Buckley. But everyone calls me Buck. And you are?" He asked as he took a step towards her.
Kenna raised her eyebrows. "Not interested. Captain Nash. Where can I find him?" She asked.
"Not interested?"
"You got it dude. You're not my type. The last guy I dated my age, almost tried to burn me like a burrito. So I'll stick to older guys. Where can I find the captain?"
"Kenadee."
Kenna turned to see Captain Nash there. She smiled to him and walked over. "I made it one piece. By the way, that blonde over there, not very subtle at trying it on with me."
"That's Buck. He's one half of tweedle dumb and tweedle Dee," Bobby told the new recruit. "This way."
Kenna followed him into his office. She looked to him and smiled. "I just wanted to say, thank you. For giving me a chance here. I know how we met wasn't exactly ideal. Considering my ex partner decided to play fireman."
Bobby nodded. "You're welcome. I found an article about you online. You went in to rescue a newborn. Even though they told you it was pointless?"
Kenna nodded and smiled. "Yeah. They all told me that there was no way a newborn baby could survive that blaze. I disagreed. I knew that babies are survivors. And yeah, it was impossible she would be alive. But I couldn't just leave her to burn. I needed to do something. I grabbed my gear and I went back in. That tiny little girl was alive. She had defied the odds and survived," she told him.
"That's what made you stand out to me. Only, don't go against your captains orders," Bobby said.
Kenna grinned and winked. "I make no promises on that sir. I am simply unique in a caring way," she said.
Bobby could see how dedicated that she was already. It was something that he felt the team needed. Someone to freshen things up for them.
"Let's go meet the team."
"Aye aye captain."

"Okay guys. This is our new recruit. Kenadee Anders, Kenadee, this is Howard Chimney, Eddie Diaz. Hen Wilson. And I'm pretty sure you've already met Buck," Bobby said.
Kenna smiled to them. "It's nice to meet you all. But please call me Kenna. Kenadee makes me feel old. Which I'm totally not," she said as she waved to them.
"Kenna. Don't we know you?" Hen asked as she looked to the newest recruits.
Kenna nodded. "Yeah. I'm the one from a few weeks back. Who's jackass boyfriend, well, ex, tried to burn alive. I was a firefighter back in New York. I left home when I was seventeen. Never looked back," she told them.
Buck walked over to her. He took her hand and kissed it. "Welcome to the 118."
Kenna groaned. "Ew. No one kisses hands anymore. Unless you're an old fashioned romantic. But something tells me you're the pump and dump kinda guy. Not really my type."
Eddie sniggered from behind him. Buck turned to him and glared. Kenna raised her eyebrows. "Ah. I'm guessing you're the other half of tweedle dumb and tweedle dee?" She asked.
"Why do you say that?"
Kenna shrugged. "Just an inkling I get. Don't worry. Every team needs the duo of clowns. This team just happens to be you two," she joked.
Eddie and Buck glanced at each other for a second. Kenna rolled her eyes and smirked. "I'll leave it to you both to decide which one is which," she said as she walked off.
Bobby and the team stood there watching. Kenna turned back to them. "Right. I probably shouldn't be too worried that there hasn't been an alarm?" She asked.
"I'd say so."

Kenna walked into the firehouse kitchen. She saw Bobby standing at the stove. "Wow. Hen was right. You are the resident chef?" She asked.
"You caught me."
Kenna grinned. "So come on captain. Did you always wanna be a firefighter?"
Bobby nodded as he chopped up some onion. "Yeah. My family there was only ever one career path. You?"
Kenna shrugged. "I wanted to be a deep sea diver. Exploring the ocean. But then, I saw a family being rescued from a fire and realised that I wanted to be one. A firefighter. So I did everything I needed to. And well, here I am."
The two of them held a look as Buck walked up. He cleared his throat. "So, Kenna. What do you say to hitting a bar?" He asked.
Kenna raised her eyebrows. "Buckaroo, you are literally so far from my type I'd need a plane to get there. It's almost sweet to an extent," she said.
Bobby hid a smirk as he saw the newest recruit giving the resident flirt a run for his money. "Buck. Leave her alone," he told him.
"Oh come on Cap. Kenna here needs an initiation. To properly welcome her to the team," Buck said.

The team had been called out to an animal stuck up a tree. Buck turned to Bobby. "Newbie should do it."
"What? I don't do animals. They're... no."
Bobby smiled to Kenna. "Everyone needs to do at least one animal rescue under their belt."
Kenna groaned. She shook her head. "I hate you all. I hope you know that. When I decide to rule hell, I'm coming for all of y'all," she told them as she made her way up the tree.
The team stood down below watching her. Bobby smiled to himself as he heard her mumbling under her breath. "Be quicker newbie! We're all hungry down here."
"Shut it Buckers. Or I'm throwing my boot off your head," Kenna mumbled.
Buck smirked knowing that he and Kenna would be great friends.
After what felt like an eternity, Kenna was down from the tree. Only the animal she had rescued was a possum. She handed it back to its owner. "Next time sir. You might want to try a fish. It would be a lot harder to get up a tree," she said.

Kenna had just gotten changed when Bobby walked in. He smiled. "How was your first day?" He asked.
Kenna shrugged and smiled. "It was great. Everyone here is great," she told him. "I never did get a chance to try your lasagne. Hen said it was to die for."
"Well next time."
"For sure. I'll see you later Cap," Kenna said as she walked off out the room.
Leaving Bobby standing there. He knew Kenna had made him smile an awful lot. But would he be able to open up to her?
