Chapter 6
"So anyways, the information Miguel gave us says that our target, Louis Kedeler, left the city of Villurbs recently. The problem is, it doesn't say where he's going," Tobias sigh, wracking his brain for a way to figure out where their target was heading.
Eclipse seemed to ignore his words. "I know who to go to," She stated, her voice monotone. She started walking in one direction.
"H-Hey! Wait! Don't leave me behind! Where are we going anyways?" Tobias yelped, running after her.
"You talk too much. Shut up," Eclipse growled, continuing on.
"You growl too much! You're so grumpy!" Tobias whined. Eclipse sent a sharp glare his way, cueing him to shut his mouth. They continued to walk in silence.
After a while, Tobias shouted, "AWKWARD SILENCE!"
"It's not awkward unless you MAKE it awkward. Now shut up. I happen to like the silence," Eclipse snapped, annoyed that someone had interrupted her precious silence.
'The question is... Will Menar give me the information? Or will I have to pay for the damn info... How much will he charge? I can always use the blood money I earn... But I may need to use it later in the trip. I could threaten to kill him, but if I do, I will be losing my main source of information... Maybe if I-'
"I'm hungry! Why don't we stop for some food? Also, my legs are tired," Tobias broke the silence yet again, acting innocent.
Eclipse gave him a blank look. Then her eyes narrowed into a glare.
"Unless you want your tongue cut out, you will Shut. Your. MOUTH!" Eclipse snapped, continuing to walk.
".... Are we there yet?"
Eclipse felt her eye twitch. She took a deep breath, clenching her fists. Tobias realized she was getting annoyed, getting the hint that it was time to shut his mouth. He felt slightly guilty, yet he was just trying to mess with her a bit. Meanwhile, Eclipse was debating on whether she should really cut out his tongue or not. They continued on in silence, Eclipse leading, walking along the empty countryside dirt road. Tobias remained quiet, thinking to himself. Eclipse began to relax again. Tobias made sure to keep a few feet away from her, giving her some space. She was content.
"So, um... Excuse me for interrupting the silence, but... ...Would you mind if I asked you some questions?" Tobias ask slowly, rubbing the back of his head nervously, averting his eyes.
Eclipse sigh. "Listen, I'm not going to kill you anytime soon. I don't want to have to go through the trouble of living through the lectures and consequences. Considering you'll have to live with me for a while, I guess it would only be fair if I answered a few questions," she stated, her voice tired.
"Oh, well um... Thanks. So, how did you get to be named Eclipse? Isn't that kind of a strange name?" he ask, cocking his head to the side.
"I didn't have a name when I was younger. I was given my name at one point, I can't quite remember when. I guess I'm named for the darkness of my hair or the fact that I made my first kill during a solar eclipse," she sigh, her eyes narrowing slightly at the memory as her amber eyes momentarily flashed with grief.
"Oh. Well, here's another question. Can you explain how the Sicarius Domum works?"
"The Sicarius Domum is the home of Bristor's assassins. It's the main house of assassins. You're from Occisorn, an assassin embassy in the East if I'm not mistaken. It's a separate embassy from the Sicarius Domum. You see, as you may know an embassy of assassins has a main group or 'main house' as we like to call it. Ours is the Sicarus Domum, where the highest ranked assassins live under their master, which in my case would be Bristor. There are smaller houses that branch off from the main house. They are still part of the Sicarus Domum, yet they are spread out in different areas. They each have a leader, yet those leaders are under Bristor's command."
"Yeah, I know that stuff. However, you didn't tell me how it operates," Tobias pointed out.
Eclipse sigh in exasperation. "There are different jobs in the Sicarius Domum. There are obviously the maids and cleaners, then the cooks and people who manage money. Those are a given. However, there are also Linistas, assassins who train newcomers to become assassins as well. Then we have the overseers, people you have to check with before you go out on a mission. They basically give us extra information we might need about our missions and make sure we know what we're doing. They also take notes on observations to see if we changed at all when we return from the mission. Miguel is one of the overseers you might know."
"Didn't Miguel say you usually skip your overseer checks?" Tobias pointed out.
"... Shut up."
"What kind of weapons do you use?"
"Don't tell me you expect me to tell you all the weapons I know how to use. I'll only mention the weapons you already know I know how to use. I use my twin daggers and a switchblade, you know that much."
"Oh... That's kind of disappointing. Anyways, do you like being an assassin?"
Eclipse went silent at the question. She stopped in her tracks, causing Tobias to nearly bump into her. Her expression was covered by the shadows of her hair.
"I don't really think I need to answer that."
